Last Friday, I saw PK rock out at The Mint in West Los Angeles. The Mint is an intimate bar/nightclub and with around 75 people at the show, so this picture wasn't taken from the show I attended. PK didn't disappoint and was probably one of my favorite indie rock acts I have seen live! I highly [...]

Said The Whale performed at The Mint on Friday night. Promoting their new EP, "New Brighton" out on Nov. 8, they played a lovely set of their new songs and really warmed up the crowd with their Canadian charm. Lead singer, Ben Worcester would do a little intro/background before each song and it was great insight to each song and performance. The drummer was so bad-ass and enthusiastic and each instrument sounded so good altogether. I wish their set was longer 'cause I was enjoying it all too well. [...]

The Mint, nestled inbetween Culver City and West Hollywood, is the epitome of the smoky blues club, using fog machines to create the smoke in the atmosphere because, after all, you can't smoke indoors basically anywhere anymore. But that presents no authenticity problem, because stepping into the dimly lit space is like taking a step back in time. Which seems only appropriate, since last Friday night, the nostalgic sounds of local group Mojo Stone graced the stage with their music that seems to exist in another era. The group consists of students from Loyola Marymount University, who've turned [...]

A few weeks ago, I went to a Summer Camp-themed wedding where one of our activities included a Ropes Course. I bragged to our friends that I had done a Ropes Course not once, but twice before (in high school), so everyone, including me, was convinced that I would be the old pro up high on the ropes. But when I stood 30 feet above the ground on the third leg of my ropes journey, and my arms were shaking so badly they felt like they would collapse on me, and my heart pounded out of my chest, I thought [...]

There's a roll of film that has been sitting in my night table for seven years now. No reason, really. I haven't developed it. In a way, I kind of like knowing that there are 24 images on film of people I might still be friends with, or I've lost touch with, that I have never seen. They have never been posted on Facebook, or shared via an email. They're not saved on a computer. And there's something kind of beautiful about that, don't you think? The longer I wait to develop it, the more nervous I get about it, in a [...]

Her name was Jessica. She was my first frenemy and she one-upped me in everything. She had the Little Mermaid lunchbox before I did and a gay best friend before anyone else. She wore a lot of pink and felt that it was her right to tell a girl that her hair looked kinky or her growth spurt hadn't hit yet. Oh, Jessica. I wonder where you are today? If you're reading this, I hope you've loosened up. A funny thing happens when you start nearing your 30s. You realize that people like Jessica, well, they don't matter [...]
