On his new "Good Man" jam, b3sci fav Raphael Saadiq puts it down real and does like the song says. The tune oozes heat and aches for its lyrical content. "Good Man" sounds a few years in the future from Saadiq's 60's flavored The Way I See It material, namely the early to mid 70's think Delfonics, think Dramatics. Good shit right here. Get into it. 2011 is Mona's for the taking. These guys have the alternative sound absolutely locked. "Teenager" could be a top 10 U.S. radio single right now. The chorus is huge, massive, gigantic. Large enough to fill stadiums and arenas, which is likely Mona 's destination ? years on.. MONA - Teenager info purchase info rating: 8.3

Photo by Carrie Day Ask and ye shall receive. In prepping a November b3sci feature on the killer tune "The Sparrow and the Wolf", we were really knocked out by Irish singer-songwriter James Vincent McMorrow; really knocked out by some of his ideas about music and about songwriting. His debut album Early In The Morning will be released in the States January 25. And a fantastic debut it is. We recently had the chance to catch up with James and ask [...]

Glasvegas have released a new track from their forthcoming EUPHORIC /// HEARTBREAK \\\ LP. On "World Outside My Room" Liam & co. flip the script with this quieter b-side number. Liam's voice sounds a more youthful more puerile tone. For a moment, at least on this track, the sneering, the posturing, the qualities about Liam that can at times isolate him as an artist from his vocal performance are replaced with an ease and nonchalance. Notions that better connect with the simple song's whimsical, sort of adolescent content. Liam sounds 21 years old, 18 years old, 16 years old on this track. Love it. Beady Eye - World Outside [...]

An Ode to Motown Motown is feng shui music. Haiku in its simplicity, Zen in its transcendence. So beautiful my ears have begun to bleed. Motown is the alpha and omega of pop. The marriage of lyric and melody. The introduction of an eternal backbeat. Our duty is to listen to these complete works. Motown is three minute perfection. The emotional nakedness Lost to our technological revolution. The new Library of Alexandria. The Church of Holland-Dozier-Holland Is [...]

Here's our second glimpse of what's to come on Beady Eye's forthcoming Different Gear, Still Speeding debut which drops February 28 on the bands own label, Beady Eye Records Ltd. "Four Letter Word" sounds much more Oasis than it's predecessor, "Bring The Light", and minus a fab melody and apocalyptic themed guitar riff, the song's lyrics are really what Liam'ify this track to the next level. The frontman himself has been quoted, "The tunes are as good as 'Definitely Maybe', if not better," and while we dig the Beady Eye sound, and think Lillywhite has done [...]

Summer Fiction are one of our favorite surprises of 2010. On the heels of their feature a few weeks back, we had the chance to catch up with frontman, and singer/songwriter, Bill Ricchini to ask him a few questions about music and life. b3sci: Where can fans expect to see Summer Fiction perform in 2011? Bill: We mostly play on the east coast, in NY and Philly, but yes, we're coming to a town near you, hopefully. We're planning some touring and speaking to some possible [...]

For every situation, every instance, there's a John Lennon quote which sums up nearly the whole gamut of human existence. Catharsis after hubris: "I was feeling insecure; you might not love me anymore." Dissatisfaction, apathy, and ambivalence: "Living is easy with eyes closed." The optimism, sometimes blind, which drives dreams: "Imagine all the people, living life in peace…" What can be written about Lennon which hasn't been written already? Let us grieve Lennon's death in equal parts for his family's loss and the cultural significance. Mired in the wake of JFK's assassination, The Beatles on Ed Sullivan helped [...]

Liam and the boys make good on the b-side of their new 7-inch with a remake of the 1991 underground NY hit "Sons of the Stage", from indie-brits World of Twist. It's a psychedelic stomper and we love it. This tune wants you to dance.. so DANCE! Beady Eye 's debut LP is expected February 28. They also recently announced a handful of European tour dates (below). Apparently the band will be in Europe during the end of March... no SXSW guys? Summer Fiction is both everything and nothing you've heard before. We wish more music fell into our inboxes like this. It's Baroque Pop, it's torch songs, it's freewheelin' Folk, it's reminiscent of the golden days... but most of all it's the roots and sound that's Rock and Roll. It's why Rock and Roll will never die. Every now and then we are graced with a songwriter that can make even the simplest sounds heard before, still well worth hearing. With all of today's media bombardment, I hear these songs and I listen. All I want to do [...]

The Chief and the boys pay homage to the David Bowie and Brian Eno penned classic. Circa '97, "Heroes" is a b-side to the Be Here Now 7:22 long debut single "D'You Know What I Mean". A song, by the way, which should win an award as one of the greatest debut singles, to a post global phenomenon album, of all time. Really, how ballsy is "D'You Know What I Mean"? Other than the fact it's basically "Wonderwall" a half step down, just listen to it let alone the entire Be [...]

The mashup journeyman DJ Topcat crafts a smooth blend here with this Cee-Lo Green/Four Tops Mix. What's crazy about "Fuck You", and maybe it's a testament to just how fucking good a song it is... like we've heard it everywhere, just about everyday and mixed up every which way and the song still sounds really really great. Like we can't help but go falsetto on that "I pity the FOOOOOOOOOOL" line every time we hear it. See if you can stop yourself from humming along to Stubbs and Co. and The Ladykiller himself. Yep, like we thought, we can hear [...]
