With Coachella done and over with, the music world as whole is left with this magical, intangible feeling. Like, this is the time for some great tunes to fill every molecule of air in the world and usher in some great times. With tons of potentially amazing albums to drop, a slew of festivals coming down the pipeline, and plenty more rays of sunshine beating down on the globe until the first leaves fall, now is the time to feel good. This week's Friday Mixtape features new music from Com Truise, Ice Age, Seapony, Bahamas, Jookabox, and more, plus loads [...]
Monday, April 18, 2011 Today's Quick Mention: Tonight I'll be competing in the Austin Chronicle's second Mind Over Music trivia competition. My pals Andy Langer and Charlie Hodge are hosting, and the money from it goes to helping Grounded In Music. If you happen to have plans to be there then be sure to say hello! And then there were five songs. Enjoy. : Santigold - Go (Featuring Karen O) : Santigold is back! I think. [...]

In Miwa Gemini 's music we hear elements as disparate as the stylized, intense atmospheres of The Doors, Chris Garneau's playful, whispered pop experiments, and late Tom Waits' decadent sonic carnival. The female element of Miwa's delicate, magical soprano defies all comparisons, contributing to a sound that's quite unique in today's overcrowded music scene. The NYC based artists will be releasing her third full length album, "Fantastic Lies of Grizzly Rose", on May 31, and tour the East coast in June. Miwa Gemini - Goodnight Trail

![Miwagemini - This Is How I Found You [Album Review]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1904238_lg.jpg)
Picture the dark night club scene from any 30's style art film. Now put that night club in the middle of the desert, and fill it with beatniks and bikers. This would in turn lead you into the same location that anti-folk singer Miwagemini would most likely send you to. Her sophomore album This is How I Found You is a spiritual and free flowing collection of absolutely lovely, yet hardened by life tracks. Banjos scream and taunt foolish women folk on the almost rockabilly track [...]

Yes, that is the new Toad t-shirt, which can be purchased here , and bears the inspiring and uplifting slogan 'Up yours, Eagletits.' Well there's been some good live music recently, and last night was another excellent Limbo night. All three bands were really good and even though it was a late one, there wasn't an excessive amount of drunkenness, so apart from being rather tired I actually feel pretty reasonable this morning. Quick question for you all, in advance of the Friday Fives - even though it's now woefully late, would you appreciate a live review [...]

Recently I've really been enjoying the music of Miwa Gemini . She is New York-based singer-songwriter that is classically-trained in piano, but her new found loves are the guitar, banjo and mandolin. I was sitting here trying to think of who to compare her to or how to explain her style, and the first thing that came to mind was to say that she's the sinister side of bluegrass. Is that even possible? Saying she is sinister is probably misleading, as there's nothing menacing about her music, but there is definitely a quality that feels a bit [...]

Tonight Dan Deacon brings his Round Robin tour to Philly's Starlight Ballroom . This sounds pretty awesome. Basically numerous bands set up their gear in one large circle with the crowd being in the center. Then each band alternates playing one song a piece going full circle throughout the night. Pretty cool huh? Tonight's line up features Beach House, Jana Hunter, Santa Dads, Lexie Mountain, Nautical Almaniac, Lizz King, Creepers, WZT Hearts, Ed Schrader, and Sand Cats. Also in Philly is Ra Ra Riot who play Johnny Brenda's with Walter Meego and The Morning Benders. In DC the [...]

The first song on Miwa Gemini 's new record, "Picnic," is a somewhat creepy song that brings to mind Tom Waits (but with a better singer) and Bjork (but with more linear songwriting). After all that quiet longing, the record transports us to barroom blues/country, with "Traveling Man" ("My man's a traveling man/He don't tell me where he's been/But it's not hard to find out where he's been/He leaves a trail of broken hearts"). Right after that comes "Something Ordinary:" A sad, old-style ballad. And I'm thinking, "Who is this chick?" Miwa is a [...]

Image: Peter Sutherland Everyday I Saw You in Egypt - Boo and Boo Too Boo and Boo Too is a thrift store of sound, for sure. I don't even need to get my hands dirty digging through historical bins because the Lawrence, KS band is kissing cousins to Chicago's still alive-and-wailing (usually good, sometimes quite excellent) The Narrator . But what The Narrator hasn't managed to pull off (i.e. The Big Time [...]

It's time for Round 2 of Pop Dee-Lite's Singles Party, featuring my favorite singles-of-the-moment from indies and majors. Birthday - The Bird & the Bee : It's hard to believe that Inara George's light and airy vocals could be attributed to a song called F*ing Boyfriend . That f*ing brilliant song, from The Bird & the Bee's self-titled full-length made a fan out of me. Birthday , from the One Too Many Hearts EP released on Valentine's Day, paints relationships in a [...]

Miwa Gemini is a musician from New York who has a new LP, This I s How I Found You coming out on March 18th on Rockpark Records. Gemini brings me back to the first time I heard bands like Persephone's Bees or maybe Cat Power. Whispers of piano, guitar, and mandolin line the recesses of each song. They live there quietly moving the melody and tempo as Miwa's voice sleepily paints lush lyrics over them. The end result are late night songs that settle in your mind and resonate for hours [...]
