A Retroview Review. ------------------------------ ------------------------------ -------------------- Luke here, back with a new limited series where I talk about like 60 movies over the next 60 days. Click here for an explanation . Read on for the quick and dirty review! Moneyball is a terrific movie, plain and simple. It makes me feel nostalgic about a sport I feel absolutely nothing for (re: baseball), and [...]

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v =Qy7j96s8Ciw I have no idea what's going on with Kool A.D . and Heems currently. It seems that as soon as one ex-Das Racist member releases something, the other is hot on his heels. Earlier today, Heems dropped the video for 'Shoegaze Desi Taiko' and then, mere hours later, Kool A.D. releases his own for the track 'Moneyball'. The track, which is off his 63 mixtape, is one of the highlights of the album and the video differs quite dramatically from Heems'. Rather than being constructed from [...]

Have you ever wanted to eat fruit while hanging out in a bathtub full of flowers? Maybe you'd rather rock a sweet outfit and walk through the woods? Does burning assault rifles tickle your fancy? If you answered yes to any of those questions, you'll probably love Kool A.D.'s absurd new video for the Mike Finito-produced "Moneyball". I know I do. The track stems from his recently released 63 mixtape, which we just reviewed alongside 19 . [ via ]

Seriously, did you see that? Because that looks about a billion times more entertaining than any baseball game has ever been. I've got a Moneyball Retroview Review in the works, and it presents a similar theory, so keep an eye out for that...

1. The obvious way to make a movie based around the 1979-'81 Iran hostage crisis, which is the first big world news story that I'm old enough to remember in semi-detail, would have been to focus on the hostages. It was a risky move for Ben Affleck, directing his third feature film, to make them almost an afterthought in Argo and instead tell the story of the six U.S. Embassy in Tehran workers who got away (sort of). But it's the relative obscurity of their story -- along with Affleck's confident, straightforward direction and the creative liberties he [...]

Clint Eastwood is the fucking worst. We're all in agreement there, yeah? We all think his Super Bowl commercial about "yay america and old-timey cars!" was reactionary bullshit. We all think Million Dollar Baby is one of the least impactful, ... Continue reading
Filed under: News , Exclusive , Pop Culture , I Freakin' Love This Song , Music Appreciation Fox Searchlight The London Olympics and their Paul McCartney- fronted opening ceremonies are over, and we're now deep into the actual competition (Have you watched handball yet?). Hiyee! What's up you guys? I'm Billy Beane's fake daughter from the movie Moneyball. You might know me from the movie! Or, you might know me because some jerk wrote this mean thing about me. I mean, as Stephanie from ... Continue reading

Muthu Alagappan, a Stanford senior, used topological data analysis to discover the types of roles basketball players fill on the court , beyond the typical five positions of point guard, shooting guard, small forward, power forward and center. Alagappan used software to crunch a data set of last season’s stats for 452 NBA players and discovered that players can be broken down into one of 13 roles . Think of his analysis as the basketball version of what Moneyball did to baseball. Given how terrible most NBA GMs are, they should probably hire Alagappan to fill [...]

'Moneyball' (UK DVD Release: 16 April '12) // Words: Saam Das Glorified accounting. That's basically the premise behind Michael Lewis 's 2003 book 'Moneyball' on the use of baseball statistics, which has spawned a Hollywood adaptation. And yet, 'Moneyball' has proved successful both commercially and critically, garnering an impressive six Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture. 'The Social Network' had similarly inauspicious beginnings before translating into one of the [...]
Guest Review by Brendan I was surprised to realize I'd seen almost have of the films nominated for Oscar's Best Picture this year. Following are my brief thoughts on them... The Artist I think it's interesting that The Artist beat out Midnight in Paris for Best Picture, since the latter film illustrated the idiocy of [...]

Now that the nominations have been revealed and the field is officially set, it's safe to rush out to the local cinema or RedBox and catch up on some of the films you may have missed before the Oscars on February 26th. Watching all nine films is important when facing an intimidating crowd of Chardonnay-swilling, hors d'oeuvres-eating, tweed jacket-wearing cinefiles who simply can't believe Michael Fassbender wasn't nominated for his performance in "Shame." In order to correctly predict the winners and dazzle your friends with your movie knowledge, you should be well versed in all the nominees. [...]
Melissa McCarthy gets a Best Supporting Actress nod for pooping in a sink, and not this lovely, erudite young lady? Not cool, Oscar. Not cool. Filed under: Film Has AIDS, The Dilemma Tagged: Moneyball, Snubs, The Oscars

The 2012 Academy Awards are fast approaching. They'll air on February 26, so you have a few weeks to catch up on viewing the nominated films. This year's batch includes a few expected nominees: "Hugo," "The Artist," "Moneyball," and "The Descendants" all made out with several expected nominations, but there are also a few surprises. Late release "Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close" made the Best Picture cut and only two songs were deemed worthy enough to make best original song nominations. Noticeably missing from that category is Golden Globe winner Madonna's [...]
