For a band to have wreaked such consistent havoc across 2012, MC Ride and his Death Grips cronies have been disquietingly quiet thus far this year though it would appear they've merely been biding their time, the vitriol swilled in their gizzards intensifying all the while and they're now ready to erupt. First up and thus on the tip of the torrents of bile now sure to spew is this overwrought rework of The Prodigy's itself acutely acerbic Firestarter, which has been afforded a grizzly soundclash redux. It's been rendered petrifying as Exmilitary full pelt and [...]

Win our top 31 albums of 2012 ! Read our original review If you ask anyone, they'll tell you that the most of defining artist in the genre of hip-hop in 2012 is Death Grips . Comprised of noise rock veteran Zach Hill on drums, brilliant keyboardist Flatlander, and the unmistakable, uncompromising vocalist MC Ride, Death Grips is an industrial hip-hop powerhouse unlike anything else in recent memory. Their first masterpiece of 2012, The Money Store , [...]

Let me start by saying that the act of releasing their second album of 2012 (NO LOVE DEEP WEB) by dropping it for free online then promoting an us vs. them mentality where musicians sign record deals only to try and attempt an obnoxious online breakup is a flat-out embarrassment and publicity failure for Death Grips. And, WTF is a band like Death Grips doing on a major label in the first place? That said, I don't give a shit what artists do with their business or private lives, and this album absolutely blows my mind with every playback. [...]

Whether you're more into your guerrilla mixtapes or your average hip hopping, Billboard Hot 100 molesters you'll doubtless have an opinion on Stefan Burnett's Death Grips . That said, how staunchly would you stand by this carefully constructed semblance of stance? That is to say that when NØ LØV∑ D∑∑P W∏B (or No Love Deep Web , or whatever) 'leaked' last month, were you swift to extol one of the more belligerent battles waged against a major in recent times – as did we – or did the inner sceptic sniff out a 2k12 [...]

When Sacramento hip-hop trio Death Grips released Exmilitary in 2011, it snuck into our houses like a rare poisonous snake from another part of this country and terrorized us in the most comforting corners of our world. When they signed onto Epic Records and dropped The Money Store earlier this year, it was a paranoid, ferocious monster that escaped from a maximum security prison and started stalking, screaming and eating pedestrians. And when they decided to defy their [...]

When Sacramento industrial-rap trio Death Grips released their debut album The Money Store with cover art bearing a feminist sadist holding a topless, androgynous male hooker on a leash, their confrontational artistic statement regarding the acceleration of sexual expression was clear. Now that their follow-up release NO LOVE DEEP WEB (which caused a press blast with its controversial leak just this week) bears an erect penis on the cover, it’s clear that their main undertaking is to also make the internet a scary place – both in real life and in the running motif of their [...]

Sacramento's experimental hip hop heroes Death Grips finally release the second album they promised this year, NO LOVE DEEP WEB ; however, it doesn't seem to be according to the original plan, which was to have their new record label, Epic , put out the album sometime in the fall of 2012. According to the band's Twitter account , Epic wouldn't confirm a 2012 release date for NLDW , pushing the album's release well into 2013. Death grips seems to have stepped around this by leaking the album themselves on SoundCloud , YouTube, their [...]

New Death Grips track that some kid uncovered while nerding out on their website . May or may not appear on NO LOVE DEEP WEB , which may or may not drop at 12 AM tonight :

The reaction I had to hearing Death Grips' "I've Seen Footage" for the first time was very similar to when I first heard Sleigh Bells' " Tell 'Em ." You are definitely torn a little between thinking, "What the hell is this shit?" and thinking, "This is crazy, and I freakin love it." It's hard not to be shocked when you listen to Death Grips. You can only understand about three words in the words in the song and it sounds like it was meant to be played in a dumpster somewhere in Brooklyn. But the more I listen to [...]

Here's Death Grips ' unreleased track for the Adult Swim Singles Series , titled "@deathgripz". My 2012 would not be the same without the band's devastating and ferocious album, The Money Store . Free download here .

Unreleased from The Money Store . Features choppy and disjointed production as well as yelling in traditional Death Grips fashion. #13 in the Adult Swim Singles Series . Cop it right here .

Newish vid from Death Grips. As a Prius driver yuppie bitch, I felt it only fitting that I put this up.

Jam City Looking back on the albums we've covered over the last six months to think about some of our favourite LPs of the year so far has been strangely difficult - there's been a distinct lack of really 'big' releases that have caught the ear (compared to this point in 2010 and 2011, for instance) but still a wealth of really great albums that made it difficult to narrow things down to any coherent, 'statement' list. As a result, we've gone for records that might not be the big consensus choices, but which are representative [...]

Death Grips drops some new visuals for the track "Double Helix." Like most music videos from these guys, the concept is simple, the budget it low, but it still manages to achieve a weird originality. Rapping into the camera built into the back of a car that's supposed to help drivers avoid accidents an incredibly "Death Grippy" concept. It actually works really well. The grainy, digital video quality looks like something you'd catch on one of those specials on TV where cops are pulling over crazy drunk drivers or something. If MC Ride isn't inebriated in this video, he certainly [...]
Here's the latest tune to come off Death Grips ' The Money Store album, and a new video to go with it. Double Helix is a self-directed video filmed entirely from the inside of a Toyota Prius using just the rearview camera. I love a nice bit of lo-fi visuals:

As we've mentioned time and time again, Death Grips have released one of the highlights of the year with "The Money Store" , and they seem to be on a run to release a new video for each album track every month or so. This time, for "Double Helix" , it might just be the first video recorded on one of those rear-view parking screens that cars have so you can help yourself park more safely. Or they can now be used to rap behind more safely. [...]
