M. Ward joins members of Norfolk and Western and Weinland to put out The Alialujuah Choir debut album full of 10 relaxing folk songs.
Four years may seem like a lot of time between records, but since the release of Hold Time in 2009, M. Ward hasn't been a stranger to the recording studio choosing to spend his time on collaborative projects both with the Monsters Of Folk and She & Him. On April 10 the singer-songwriter will return to being a solo act, as he will release his latest studio album, A Wasteland Companion , via his longtime label Merge Records. Last week Matt released the animated music video for the record's first single [...]

It's been almost three years since M.Ward released his latest solo album, Hold Time . In the time that has elapsed, Ward has kept himself busy with other projects, including She & Him and Monsters of Folk , both of which have been featured on TBT over the past year. On April 10th of this year, myself along with many [...]
Taking in a show at the Masonic Lodge located within the famed Hollywood Forever Cemetery is always a treat. It's a small room seating roughly 200, with tall ceilings, two hanging chandeliers and seated cushioned benches to the side. To keep it a little more hip, the walls feature film posters like A Clockwork Orange, [...]

Probably better known as the "Him" half, in ZoZo 's musical side-project, She & Him , (and as a member of Monsters of Folk ), M. Ward makes a welcome return to the familiar fields of his more soothing self. Have a listen below to the acoustic calypso vibes of 'The First Time I Ran Away', the opening taste of his seventh solo album, A Wasteland Companion , set to drop April 10th via Bella Union , his first for the label. The germane animation comes courtesy [...]

We resume our reposts of the Blogophilia series this week with volumes 8 and 8.5. Why 8 and 8.5? Well, I mixed these at the same time, and the tracks came from the same collection of songs I reviewed. Calling one 8 and the other 9 didn't feel right. We've also had a 12.5, and recently a 26.5 for the same reason. Like volume 7, these two mixes really capture the summer spirit. Volume 8.5 has a throw in from an "oldie but goodie." Enjoy... Blogophilia Volume 8 [...]

Carlos Forster (ft. M. Ward) - "Campfire Songs" + "I Walk I Talk" While I've read more than one version of the story behind Carlos Forster's new solo LP, the gist remains the same: She & Him/Monsters of Folk's M. Ward first met Forster in college, leading to on-and-off recording sessions with the former For Stars leader throughout the '00s, finally culminating in the Ward-produced record, Family Trees . The result is an honorably unassuming set of relaxing folk jams, which a past description of Ward's own music by Conor Oberst [...]
Filed under: News , Exclusive Getty Images Musicians are just like us -- they watch TV, play video games, make fancy meals and then tweet about it all. But some musicians really enjoy their eats and need more than a mere 140 characters. In the case of My Morning Jacket 's Jim James , Zooey Deschanel 's She & Him bandmate M. Ward , and Beastie [...]

I saw My Morning Jacket live a few years back, touring in support of their 2008 album Evil Urges . They had no opening band and tore through two full sets in the misty outdoor fog of Berkeley's Greek Theater. Every single song they played had the energy and power and melt-your-face-off force [...]
The second in a five-part series that features covers of every single Bob Dylan song, in alphabetical order. Today's installment goes from F through J, for a total of over 50 more covers.

MP3: Saskatchewan – Dreamboat We saw this today on an old favorite blog, You Ain't No Picasso and wanted to share this great dream pop track in the likes of Cults or Oregon Bike Trails from Saskatchewan which they have just released. Enjoy!

She & Him/Monster of Folk's M. Ward is turning his attention back toward his solo career with a new album in the works, his follow-up to 2009's Hold Time , and a solo tour that kicked off last week in his adopted hometown of Portland, Oregon. "I'm going back to what it was when I first started, performing, writing and recording by myself," he told HitFix of his plans to draft LP7 at home, adding later, "I have a giant backlog of songs that… I really haven't had time to revisit or improve upon. Earlier this year String Cheese Incident keyboard player and accomplished homebrewer Kyle Hollingsworth previewed his collaborative beer with the Boulder Beer Company - Hoopla Pale Ale - at the band's Winter Carnival. The dry-hopped beer, which Hollingsworth specifically designed for drinking at summer music festivals, will get its official national release both on tap as well as in 22-ounce bottles on May 14, with a special launch party at the Boulder Beer Company's brewpub in Boulder, CO. Here's the official description... Hoopla [...]

Last week, we dedicated all of our Song of the Days to the more Super of Rock and Roll acts. There truly aren't enough days in the week, so we rounded it out with a few more tunes to make this most super of playlists. Never before have we pulled together a playlist with this much collaborative talent, and we will be hard pressed to do more going forward. Check out the playlist below, along with a brief explanation of each tune. The Traveling Wilburys - Handle With [...]
These guys might reject the supergroup moniker, but between Jim James, M. Ward, and Bright Eyes' Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis they have assembled quite the team of talent.

Bright Eyes @ Radio City Music Hall, March 9 Words : Jeffrey Greenblatt Images : Jeremy Gordon It's hard to believe that it has been four years since Conor Oberst last recorded under his longtime moniker Bright Eyes , an eternity for a guy that is known for his prolific output. Since the 2007 release of Cassadaga , Oberst has stayed busy by releasing two "solo" albums of breezy, folk-rock with the Mystic Valley Band along with his contributions to the Monsters Of Folk - a [...]
Conor Oberst returns to the familiar surroundings of Bright Eyes with the release of 'The People's Key' in what, if the frontman is to be believed ,may well be the band's final chapter. having expressed his Americana compulsion first with the 2007 album 'Cassadega' and subsequently with the likes of the Mystic Valley Band and [...]

Every now and again, something comes along that can't really be proven if it's true or not, because it exists on a plane of absolute absurdism. Case in point: Crèm-brû-log . Now, normally, if I were to tell you about a blog devoted solely to the distinct, creamy pleasure of Crème brûlé, you would scoff and say, what's so special about that? But if I told you the same blog was penned from My Morning Jacket's Jim James and his Monsters of Folk bandmate M. Ward, well then, you would scratch your head and go, that's interesting. [...]
