Today sees the premier of Moonface’s “Headed For the Door” - a black & white, visual feast of a music video directed by Marsha Balaeva. See it below. With Siinai: Heartbreaking Bravery , Moonface’s 2nd full length is out now via Jagjaguwar. The lyrical theme of With Siinai: Heartbreaking Bravery , recorded with Helsinki prog kraut rock band Siinai, is heartbreak. According to Krug, it was not planned, but became obvious halfway through the writing process. Some recently battered, still mildly swollen heart snuck its way into the 1st [...]
Recording under the moniker Moonface , Spencer Krug (Wolf Parade, Sunset Rubdown) has expanded on the minimalist sound of his first two albums in a new collaboration with Finnish krautrockers Siinai (Wolf Parade's touring buddies in 2009). "With Siinai: Heartbreaking Bravery" (out now via Jagjaguwar) flows with Sinai's well-known build-ups, but also caters to Krug's dark pop sensibility. Exemplary songs of from this collaboration include the eight-minute declaration "Headed For the Door" as well as the more upbeat, synth-based "Teary Eyes and Bloody Lips." And although there is a heavy prog-rock influence on his latest single, "I'm Not the [...]
In Spencer Krug 's dense, sprawling musical domain, bands come and go — whether that means putting Wolf Parade on indefinite hiatus or seemingly neglecting his former side-project Sunset Rubdown — on an almost annual basis. His newest project under the pseudonym Moonface (after releasing three previous EPs that were startlingly different in style) is a minimalist rock collaboration with Finnish band Siinai entitled Heartbreaking Bravery . Compared to his denser, more complex compositions in previous Moonface releases (and really, Krug's entire back catalogue), Heartbreaking Bravery [...]
So many times we fall behind for things that are out of our control. Other times it's because we're working extra hard. Things are about to take a drastic turn around here in the next few weeks, but rest assured, you'll be the beneficiary of it. VERY excited... Moonface 's last record was a favorite of mine and thanks to continued creative film making, this video for 'Faraway Lightning' is probably the best video Spencer Krug 's eloquent voice has ever been associated with. [...]

moonface kills unchained melody
Moonface and Siinai played the Echo last week and capped off the night with a cover of " Unchained Melody ," documented for posterity by a saint of a youtube user named Farglow above. I have to be honest: I'm a cynical person. I'm hesitant to buy into things, and am prone to pull out a gross, hipstericious opinion of dismissal fairly easily. When they started into the song, my immediate thought was, "Why this dull and obvious standard?" For a cover, it felt like a weak choice. But probably about halfway in, it became [...]

Tonight in L.A.: Autolux, Band of Skulls, Sean Paul, Moonface, Shlohmo, Ryan Leslie, Max & the Moon
Here are your Wednesday things: ► Band of Skulls come back to L.A. behind their sophomore album "Sweet Sour," released back in February. The U.K. trio headlines the Fonda Theatre supported by IO Echo and Dreamers Dose . That's Band of Skulls' new video for "You're Not Pretty But You Got It Goin' On." ► It was fun watching Carla Azar drum for Jack White, but tonight she's back in her element, making racket with Eugene Goreshter and Greg Edwards in Autolux . The L.A. trio hits to Bootleg [...]
Moonface- “I’m Not The Phoenix Yet”
I am a huge sucker for Spencer Krugs lyrical style and vocal delivery, there's a fantastical quality about it that still remains raw with emotion, it feels genuinely unique. Of course he is best known for his bands: Wolf Parade and Sunset Rubdown. His new focus is collaborative/solo project under the name Moonface; a project that I feel is fairly underrated. The last album he released earlier this year was doing with kraut rock band Siinai called, Heartbreaking Bravery . "I'm Not The Phoenix Yet" is the third song to have a video made for from the album. [...]
Moonface – “I’m Not The Phoenix Yet” Video
Earlier this year, Wolf Parade/Sunset Rubdown/Swan Lake guy Spencer Krug, working under his Moonface alias, teamed up with Finnish band Siinai on the new album With Siinai: Heartbreaking Bravery . And the new video for album track "I'm Not The Phoenix Yet," directed by Throneboogie , is an intense and weirdly fetishized series of extreme close-ups of a female body doing calisthenics. Watch it below. Read More...

[video] Moonface - "Faraway Lightning"
Epic Video from Moonface "Faraway Lightning", the latest single off Moonface 's Heartbreaking Bravery , has a new music video. It's perfect for the ominously-brooding track, which features the backing of Finnish post-rock outfit Siinai . Check it out! Buy :: Moonface - With Siinai: Heartbreaking Bravery (Jagjaguwar)

[video] Two Tonne Bowlers - "An Acquired Taste" (w/ Spencer Krug)
Spencer Krug at age 17 Some things are just better left buried, but luckily for us, someone else has done all the digging. A while back , it came to the knowledge of we Spencer Krug fans that he was once in a ska band. I didn't believe it at first, but more substantial evidence surfaced, thus confirming the rumors. You most probably associate Krug with bands like Wolf Parade, Sunset Rubdown, Moonface, Frog Eyes, Swan Lake, or even Fifths of Seven. One that I'm guessing isn't on that [...]
