Alabama Shakes are currently gearing up for the release of their debut LP, Boys & Girls , in April. IN build up to that they're getting plenty of appreciation wherever they tread and they recently visited KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic . The full performance can be streamed below and it shows just how much passion and soul the band have in a live scenario. If on record they have the power to give you a chill, live is just, well, see for yourselves. There's also a little live footage which can be enjoyed [...]

Tweet This morning the hotly-tipped Alabama Shakes visited KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic show, where they played a 40 minute+ set including a host of tracks and some interviews talking about their debut album "Boys & Girls" , due out in April. The performance is a really great insight into just how good these guys are, the potential they hold , and how fucking raucous one of their lives shows must [...]
Shelby Lynne played from her latest album Revelation Road, and sang her heart out to about fifty people at Apogee's Berkeley Street Studio.
Sam Beam & co. stretch their wings but never really take flight. Morning Becomes Electric is a radio program based out of KCRW in Santa Monica, Calif., which features in-studio performances by well-regarded acts. Sam Beam's Iron and Wine paid a visit to the show in January 2011, playing a handful of songs and engaging in a bit of on-air interview time with host Jason Bentley. For I&W completists, this is an engaging enough set, featuring three songs from the then-new Kiss Each Other Clean album as...
Only in Dreams may refer to the second album of the Los Angeles-based indie-noise-pop group, Dum Dum Girls , but everything else is reality. Touring Europe, blowing up festival stages. No dreams, all real life. Clad in all black from head to toe, the lady group played the Jimmy Fallon Show performing their mesmerizing single "Bedroom Eyes". It seems playing Fallon live is either your last stop before catapulting into full-fledged stardom or a pit stop along the way to your third platinum album. Either way, landing a spot on that stage is something to be [...]

Usually, but so not always, these Friday Fives build from the mellow to the rockin'. Today, let's just start with a slap-in-the-face of a song you may've missed from earlier this year. Dananananaykroyd "All Us Authors" from There Is A Way • • If I ever meet Zach Hill , the drummer of Hella , I'm gonna give him the biggest, most righteous high five ever. He's gotta be the tightest, most lyrical, effervescent players around. And he's tuned his snare to [...]
James Blake: Official | Facebook | Youtube - KCRW : Morning Becomes Eclectic I've always wondered how he would present this song live. It's one of those special tunes that I like to think to myself, "Yeah I remember when I told you about this track and you didn't get it. Now you're all about it. It's all good though." It's like the lyrics, "Look I found her. Damn!" I guess that's how you feel when you find a song/artist/album/performance/ dj/producer and you look around you and know one knows [...]
In my previous post I mentioned tracking down some of the tracks played at Low End Theory last week from Gaslamp Killer, Flying Lotus and of course James Blake. As usual, aside from the new Rustie tracks it's anyone's guess as to what the Gaslamp Killer playing, but luckily many of the tracks Blake played that night made it to his BBC Essential Mix a few days later. In particular, I remember tracks like Blawan's "What You Do With What You Have" and Africa Hi-Tech's "93 Million Miles", but there were also some other choice selections I had forgotten about, [...]
I've been on the praise train of Anna Calvi since late last year then her fascinating self titled debut happened....... a debut that is without question my most listened to piece of work of 2011. Word of Admiral Radley's birth surfaced sometime last year and now the band is entering the public consciousness. Radley features Jason Lytle and Aaron Burtch of Grandaddy and Aaron Espinoza and Ariana Murray of Earlimart. So yeah, maybe you could call this one of those supergroups. The band just released their debut album, I Heart California , on Tuesday and stopped by KCRW studios on Wednesday for an in-studio performance for the one and only "Morning Become Eclectic". Hear it all below or watch it over at KCRW.com . [...]
