But new possibilities are emerging as Mass Appeal returns with a vengeance and $1.2 million dollars while Mountain Dew and Complex team up on Green Label. These publications represent two important routes for music publishing today, one a strong original content center on which a larger business can be built and the other a sponsored content site providing branded content that's less about the brand and more about the demographic target. In another dramatic series of events concerning rappers and their high-profile endorsements, Pepsi Co has dropped Lil Wayne from their roster over controversy concerning a lyric from the rapper.. The line, from Future's remix of "Karate Chop" , reads "beat the pu**y up like Emmett Till", of course referring to the brutal and racially-fueled death of the young Till from 1955 . Now Wayne, as any listener knows, has compared many things over his career to beaten up female genitalia, which one might thing is already enough to garner skepticism from large-paying corporations. [...]

After issuing an apology to the Till family earlier this week, PepsiCo - the parent company of Mountain Dew - has cut all ties with Lil Wayne over his controversial reference to Emmett Till on Future's "Karate Chop." In a statement made late Friday, the company said Wayne's "offensive reference to a revered civil rights icon" did not reflect the values of their brand. However, according to Sarah Cunningham, Weezy's publicist, Wayne being dropped was an amicable decision and due to "creative differences." Whatever the case, the [...]

As we previously reported, Odd Future leader Tyler, the Creator received some pretty harsh words from critics who saw his latest Mountain Dew commercial as racist and promoting violence against women. His manager, Christian Clancy, responded to the allegations , but now it's Tyler's turn to speak on the matter. In an exclusive interview with Billboard , the multi-talented Los Angeles native opens up about how he viewed the commercial (and its predecessors) while noting that he understands why some people might take its content the wrong way. No sooner than Lil Wayne and his publicity team could issue their apology , reps for Emmett Till's family rejected it on the spot. Per TMZ , Airickca Gordon-Taylor, a Till family representative, feels that Wayne's words fall "short of an apology." "While it’s commendable that he has vowed to respect the legacy of Emmett Till and his memory to ‘not use or reference Emmett Till or the Till family in his music,' this statement falls short of an apology, as none is mentioned." No word from [...]

Yesterday, we reported that Tyler, the Creator's third Mountain Dew commercial depicting the violent spree of Felicia the Goat was pulled from the web following an outcry that it was "racist." Some hours later, Tyler and the rest of Odd Future's manager, Christian Clancy, took to his Tumblr account to respond to the news. Clancy notes that Tyler "would love to address" this situation "in the right forum as he does have a point of view." He goes on to write that "[Tyler]'s delivery may not be for everyone, but his voice is [...]

Tyler, The Creator 's ad for soft drink Mountain Dew has been described as "arguably the most racist commercial in history." Quite understandably the ad, which shows a battered white woman attempting to identify her attacker from a line-up of all black men (members of Odd Future) and Tyler's infamous Felicia the Goat character, has been officially pulled from the internet. It's, obviously, all over the internet. PepsiCo, the company which produce Mountain Dew, have released an apology. View it for yourself below and decide how offensive you think it is.

So you know that third Tyler, the Creator commercial for Mountain Dew that featured Felicia the Goat in a police lineup? Well, both the soda brand and the Odd Future leader have come under some serious fire because of the clip, which some are calling " arguably the most racist commercial in history ." Odd Future leader Tyler, the Creator once again finds himself embroiled in controversy. According to The Associated Press , Mountain Dew has pulled an online commercial directed by Tyler, which is drawing accusations of racism. Felicia the Goat is also in the lineup, and makes threatening remarks to the woman, specifically [...]

Lil Wayne didn't desire to see his Mountain Dew money go down the drain and has given the formal apology Emmitt Till's family requested. After months of avoiding the issue, Wayne's mea culpa comes after the family recently announced their intentions to pressure the Pepsi-backed soft drink company, one of the rapper's largest corporate endorsers. The controversy began after Wayne appeared on the remix to Future's "Karate Chop" in February. While Epic Records, Future's label, quickly apologized and removed the lyric, Weezy had not and the family increased their call [...]
Mountain Dew teams up with the outspoken head of the Odd Future regime for a set of zany, unorthodox commercials that will either lead to laughing out loud, or awkward confusion. As a director, i honestly believe that is Tyler's niche. His countless videos, Loiter squad, and now this series of commercials only continue to showcase his unfiltered creative visionary talents. The house of hip-hop can open up many doors outside of a "clothing line" and cliche "movie roles". "Might fuck around and be a goat name Felicia"
Apparently Tyler, the Creator really wasn't kidding when he said he'd be the director of multiple Mountain Dew ads. Watch as the Odd Future honcho gets his Spielberg on yet again, and reminds audiences to refrain from drinking and driving. Admirable. Also, if you find this to be your cup of tea, you'll definitely enjoy Loiter Squad , and God bless you if you do. Tyler the Creator and the people over at Mountain Dew recently teamed up for a couple commercials. Directed by Tyler, the commercials follow Felicia the Goat and his conquest for Mountain Dew. Where the first commercial was just plain crazy and sort of stupid, the follow up is much more successful in bringing out the laughs. This second commercial sees Felicia the Goat getting pulled over by a police officer for a "Dew U I." Tyler , who voices the goat, brings his infamous wackiness to the spot. Check out the video below [...]

After previously recruiting crazy person Lil Wayne for an ad campaign, Mountain Dew yet again takes a risk working with another crazy person high-profile rapper, Tyler, the Creator .
