I have seen Mount Eerie play in small storefront venues in Olympia. I've listened to them in dorm rooms scattered throughout my college campus, on airplanes, in cars, in tents, in my childhood bedroom, at ... read more

Mount Eerie drops the second album that was promised in 2012, and while it is a bit more aggressive than its predecessor, Clear Moon , it's surprisingly disjointed. WATCH THE REVIEW
The ocean roars LOUD. P.W. Elverum and Sun, 2012 8.2 / 10.0 Already having released the excellent Clear Moon, Phil Elverum's choice to release a second album, Ocean Roar, in the same year seems like a risky gamble. If the album was a disappointment, it would detract from his [...]

So we typically toss a video onto a post when highlighting a new band or a show preview or something and let you draw your own conclusion about it. Sometimes we throw a change-up... strike that - let’s call it a round up. Most of these videos are of bands we have previously talked about here on Draw Us Lines, so we won’t be telling you much about those bands themselves, just some musings that really aren’t worth a damn. If a picture is worth 1000 words, then a video must be worth a million. Hold on to your hats! [...]
After the quiet, contemplative Clear Moon dropped in May, I almost immediately started yearning for the more aggressive side of Mount Eerie that albums like 20082s Wind's Poem had displayed. Thankfully, the new Mount Eerie album Ocean Roar delivers just that. The title track is the first song to officially drop from Mount Eerie's second album this year, and although it's not as raw or abrasive as some of the album's gruffest material, it hints at a less smoothed out side of Phil Elverum than Clear Moon ever approached. The brief song features a head-tripping mix [...]

It looks as though we're going to wrap up our great week here with the mellower side of things, and I'm perfectly okay with that. We're nearing the release of the second Mount Eerie album, from Phil Elverum this year; Ocean Roar is supposed to be contrasted with Clear Moon , which came out early in 2012. When listening here, I feel as if this track is dominated by the percussive element, even though it's lightly placed in the background. Phil quietly sings [...]
Mount Eerie's last album, Clear Moon , definitely took drone and repetition to the forefront for the longtime musical project of singer-songwriter Phil Elverum. Phil is now gearing up to release his second album of 2012, Ocean Roar , and "Pale Lights" is the first song to drop from it. The track still makes use of the repetitive direction Moon did, but with a much more ferocious sound. The track is strangely structured, too. It does through phases of loud and soft with instrumentation gradually being faded [...]

Phil Elvrum AKA Mount Eerie is back at it with his second LP of 2012, Ocean Roar , due out September 4th on his very own label P.W. Elverum and Sun . Ocean Roar follows up BPM Recommended album Clear Moon and is described as an experimental counterpoint to Clear Moon , with loose song structures, "endless chords, repeating note flurries," and "stretched drones." The press release also states that the theme of the album is "fogdream/obliteration." By god, we cannot [...]
