Mount Eerie 's second album of the year, Ocean Roar , is due out next week, and so far we've heard the titular single " Ocean Roar ", but Phil Elverum has a new single to peak your interest. "I Walked Home Beholding" is moody as hell, but damn is it good. With sweeping organs, echoing percussion, and smooth guitar riffs, what's not to love? Stream it below. Ocean Roar is out on September 9th via Elverum's own label P.W. Elverum and Sun.
Mount Eerie's Phil Elverum drops another track from what's going to be his second full-length album this year, Ocean Roar . It's a slow, serene ballad featuring the kind of atmospheric synths that were so prevalent on this albums predecessor, Clear Moon . Some of Phil's lyrics leave me scratching my head a bit, too, but in a good way. The reference to leaving the studio at night toward the beginning of the track was a bit surprising. For Phil to be so blatantly self-referential and mention a convenience of modern living-as [...]

Phil Elverum, aka Mount Eerie , is nearing the release of Ocean Roar , his second album of 2012, and he's let loose the title track from the forthcoming LP. "Ocean Roar" is a beautiful song, with harmonic falsettos melding beneath Elverum's somber tone amidst an array of captivating instrumentation. If this is any indication, the full album looks to be a promising addition to this year's releases. Stream it below. Ocean Roar is out on September 4th via Elverum's own P.W. Elverum and Sun imprint.

It looks as though we're going to wrap up our great week here with the mellower side of things, and I'm perfectly okay with that. We're nearing the release of the second Mount Eerie album, from Phil Elverum this year; Ocean Roar is supposed to be contrasted with Clear Moon , which came out early in 2012. When listening here, I feel as if this track is dominated by the percussive element, even though it's lightly placed in the background. Phil quietly sings [...]
Mount Eerie's last album, Clear Moon , definitely took drone and repetition to the forefront for the longtime musical project of singer-songwriter Phil Elverum. Phil is now gearing up to release his second album of 2012, Ocean Roar , and "Pale Lights" is the first song to drop from it. The track still makes use of the repetitive direction Moon did, but with a much more ferocious sound. The track is strangely structured, too. It does through phases of loud and soft with instrumentation gradually being faded [...]

Singer-songwriter Phil Elverum drops another song teasing toward the eventual release of the new Mount Eerie album, Clear Moon . Is it too early to gather a sonic theme from this album? Because between this track and the other to drop from this album thus far , Phil is making use of a lot of long, drone-y, and drawn-out repetitions. The slowly growing instrumentation and saxophones on this track make immersion easy. Phil continues to be a master as creating not just songs, but interesting soundscapes.
It was just over a week ago that former Microphones frontman Phil Elverum announced the release of two new albums this year under his Mount Eerie project, but the prolific singer-songwriter hasn't stopped there. The 73 features collaborations with Nicholas Krgovich of P:ano, Gigi, and No Kids, the latter with whom Elverum released a split a few years back. I hit you with Mount Eerie's first track since Wind's Poem back in November , before Phil Elverum told everyone how huge 2012 was going to be for fans of The Mics//Mount Eerie on his website . If you wren't excited by 'Distorted Cymbals' or 'House Shape' [included as a bonus below] well, first off you're crazy, but secondly 'To The Ground' will surely do the trick. Released as part of a 73 by French label Atelier Ciseaux [ available for preorder here ], 'To The Ground' is a shadowy stroll through the paths of Phil's [...]
Mount Eerie is not just releasing one, but two albums this year. Between this and the two albums Death Grips is releasing this year, I might explode. Keep fragile things and the faint of heart away from me. The sheer force of this explosion might harm others. Anyway, the last time we heard from Mount Eerie's frontman, Phil Elverum, on a scale this large, it was when the project released Wind's Poem in 2009. While the album wasn't an accurate picture of Elverum's trademark sound-mostly because Wind's incorporated a surprising amount of black metal [...]
