Until recently I didn't consider myself a fan of pop music. In fact, I'd once believed that pop music was the antithesis of everything I liked about music. In high school I'd have described myself as a fan of "alternative music" which meant I was obsessed with Nine Inch Nails, Nirvana, Bjork, and Radiohead's The Bends and OK Computer (after all, I am a child of the nineties.). Then in college I thought of myself as a fan of "indie music" which meant I was now obsessed with Modest Mouse, Grandaddy, Spoon, and Radiohead's Kid A and [...]

"Get inside, and light it, see cash/ Cross your legs, break your neck." So trills When Saints Go Machine's Nikolaj Manuel Vonsild during Love And Respect – the Killer Mike-featuring opener to their third full-length record, Infinity Pool . We're diving in at the deep end; joining the great Danish eccentrics on another voyage across the bedazzling spectrum of pop surreality. But as the album ignites, has it taken a turn for the darker, and indeed more oppressive as the lead single appears to suggest? With lyrics of snapped rachides [...]

Bankrupt! , the latest from Phoenix has been out for a bit now and one of the standout tracks is "Trying To Be Cool" that the band has been parading around to live television performances. Recently, San Francisco's Silver Swans revealed their atmospheric reworking of the song taking away some of the "cool" vibes of the song in favor of a more relaxed vibe. You can stream the remix below and download it here .

Here’s a new Statik Selektah jam called 21 & Over featuring Sean Price and Mac Miller. Sean P gets busy over Statik’s beat. The cuts are tight as hell and the song is that great hip hop we’ve come to expect from Statik.

You may remember some time back I got rather excited about an upcoming collaboration between TOKiMONSTA and the truly legendary Ultramagnetic MCs founder Kool Keith . Well the wait is finally over as TOKiMONSTA's 'Half Shadows' LP has been released and we now have news we will be treated to an EP of remixes of the collaboration. It's become more and more standard for producers to blend half a dozen different styles and genres into just one track, so much so that the initial impact of TOKiMONSTA's decision to mix half-step, [...]
Libyans started playing in Boston in 2007, and have since become a staple in punk communities locally and nationally, playing self-booked shows at basements, warehouses, zine libraries, and other DIY spaces regularly over the years. In 2010, the band released a debut record A Common Place , which they will now follow up with Expired Language in August via Sorry State Records. The first single is "Rite Of Passage", a hardcore-spirited melodic punk track that conveys a sort of universal rage through its abstract lyricism about subverting societal traditions: "It's stubborn, blunt, old fashioned, some archaic rite [...]

The Weeknd released the title track from his upcoming album Kiss Land . This track has a ton of build up from the opening seconds but the chorus sould have delivered more. I still mess with it, but expected a little more from the first leak off his next jawn. The Weeknd is going to have a tough time getting this played on the radio. THEE WEEKND - KISS LAND

Modular People 's latest signing, Movement, have released their debut single on the label and it should come as no surprise that it's simply stunning. Between the deep vocals, minimalist synths, and steel drums, it's hard to pin down what elements I'm most attached to. Feel Real will be out May 24th in Australia or May 28th in the US. If you live in Australia and want to catch them on tour, allow me to recommend the following shows alongside Flight Facilities: Thu 23 May - Corner Hotel, [...]

"Crystal Fighters have one of the top albums of the summer, and possibly even of all 2013, so there can be no doubt that they got it right…even if it did take them almost three years..." Crystal Fighters | Cave Rave It is fairly routine for a band’s sound to evolve in between their initial album and subsequent efforts. This is especially true when the band in question take a lengthier period of time in crafting their follow-up, such as the three years it took for Crystal Fighters to create Cave Rave . Successor to [...]

Last we heard from Leonard Friend was the impressionable and addictive "Holograms." Now he's injecting that same R&B influence into HAIM's "Falling."
