HAIM- “Send Me Down”

"Send Me Down" is the b-side to the latest single from California pop and contemporary R&B trio HAIM. It's a polyrhythm-laden tune that carries a pretty heavy Michael Jackson influence. Actually, that's the case with much of this outfit's material, but they channel it into something that feels young, fresh, and modern. Scope their Forever EP that dropped earlier this year if you're yet to hear it. Enjoy!

Angel Olsen- “The Waiting” (Loved)

A track from Half Way Home , which is the latest album from Bonnie 'Prince' Billy and Cairo Gang cohort Angel Olsen. It's a pretty wonderful tune, too. It well-sung, emotive, and I love the desperate romance coming from the lyrics as well. The bass and drums are pretty modest, but there are some pretty sweet background vocals and harmonized guitar leads that give this song some sweet personality. Let's be honest, though: The real grit is coming from Angel on this track. Grab this new record of hers on Bathetic.

Blessed State- 2012 Demo

2012 Demo by Blessed State Some catchy, energetic, and melodic hardcore punk coming from this new demo from Western Massachusetts' Blessed State. It's rough around the edges, but surely worth a listen. Some great guitar leads manage to shine through the grit of this recording, and some spots like the lone guitar introduction of the last track do come off as legitimately down in the dumps for music of this level of aggression. Enjoy!

Yo La Tengo- “Before We Run”

Yo La Tengo - "Before We Run" by Emily Hubley
Attached to a set of visuals by Emily Hubley, here's the latest track from Yo La Tengo. It's set to be released on the famed New Jersey band's next album, Fade , and it's sounding quite beautiful and ambitious horns and strings. Still, despite the step up in instrumentation, Yo La Tengo still manages to come off quiet, subtle, and delicate. Look for this album on Janurary 14th via Matador.

inc.- “5 Days”

inc. - 5 days
inc. is the musical project of Andrew and Daniel Aged, and their debut full-length, No World is set for a Feb. 19th release on 4AD. This inaugural track is a subtly funk piece of smooth R&B with some great chord changes and sensual vocals.

Joey Bada$$- “Enter the Void” ft. Ab-Soul

Joey Bada$$ - Enter The Void (feat. Ab-Soul)
The Progressive Era and Black Hippy cohorts Joey Bad and Soulo coming together on this new titled "Enter the Void." While Ab-Soul sounds as dope as ever, bringing socially aware rhymes together with weird and pompous abstractions, Joey sounds great on a track that sounds a bit less mired in hip hop nostalgia. Hoping these guys cross paths again in the future. Props to Lee Bannon on the production.

Tim Hecker & Daniel Lopatin- “Intrusions”

Tim Hecker & Daniel Lopatin - Intrusions [OFFICIAL SINGLE]
Here's a track from a collaboration dropping on Nov. 20th via Software that has me pretty psyched. Tim Hecker and Daniel Lopatin are really at the top of their respective games right now when it comes to experimental and ambient music, and to hear the both of them collaborate so effectively at this point in their careers is seriously a treat. "Instrusions" an enthralling soundscape of damaged, stuttering pieces of noise fused with glossy synths. It's like listening to a lost transmission from another galaxy or dimension.

Holly Herndon- “Dilato”

Sonic experimentalist Holly Herndon's latest collection of tracks, Movement , is out now via RVNG Intl., and the track streaming above is one of the stranger moments on it. Featuring a vocal take from Bruce Rameker, Herndon methodically manipulates it in numerous ways over the course of the track. While, at first, it sounds as if the next six minutes will most likely be a bore, what happens here is actually quite eye-widening and oddly gripping.

Stream the New Stallone EP

Instrumental stoner rock outftit Stallone has a new EP that came out this past October. If this kinda music is up your alley, you may already be familiar with guitarist Juan Montoya due to his contributions to the band Torche on albums like Meanderthal . However, since leaving the band, it seems Stallone has become a primary focus, and it shows in the production and songwriting quality, which has greatly improved since the last EP I heard from these guys . This EP is available on Limited Fanfare . / via /

Nicolas Jaar - Play The Drums For Me (Original Mix)

Surahn- “Watching the World”

Stream: Surahn- "Watching the World" Some tight, groovin', and danceable pop from Surahn on "Watching the World," which is set to be on this dude's forthcoming EP on DFA Records. While the label has always been a supporter of various forms of alternative dance music, this track sidesteps weird eccentricities in favor of some disco chic. Aside from a modern recording, there's not much that sounds new about this track, but the tune itself is certainly catchy and admirable. Give "Watching the World" a listen via the link above.

Shizune- Mono No Aware: Between Eternity and the Burial

mono no aware: between eternity and the burial by shizune Italy's Shizune, which is a group of post-hardcore revivalists that I've featured on the site before , have a new EP streaming on their Bandcamp, and the band's production sounds slightly improved. Nice! Of course, their tight playing, passionate vocals, and ferocity are maintained on what is, to my knowledge, their second release of 2012.

Tony Falco & Josh Sinton- Internal Combustion

Internal Combustion by Tony Falco & Josh Sinton A series of free jazz odysseys on this new collection of tracks from percussionist Tony Falco and saxophonist Josh Sinton. While Falco and Sinton don't create the most relentless or chaotic improvisations, they do get quite noisy and freakish. Stream it via the widget above, or grab it for five bones on Bandcamp .

Michael Price- “A Bridge”

Accomplished composer Michael Price is set to release a new EP on Erased Tapes this December titled A Stillness . "A Bridge" is the first track to drop from it, and it's a beautifully arranged and inspiring set of strings ascending through one movement after another. Give a listen via the widget above.

Mykki Blanco- Cosmic Angel: Illuminati Prince/ss

Download: Mykki Blanco- Cosmic Angel: Illuminati Prince/ss Mykki Blanco, self-proclaimed "acid punk" rapper from New York, has dropped her debut mixtape, titled Cosmic Angel: Illuminati Prince/ss . Featuring production from Gatekeeper, Flosstradamus, Booty & Le1f, and more, the 15-track release is available to stream and download above via Datpiff. Equipped with an eccentric personality and engaging flow, Mykki Blanco doesn't seem to have any trouble staying interesting throughout the variety of sounds the mixtape covers. Part of that is owed to her eclectic production choices, which range from [...]

Susanne Sundfør- The Silicone Veil

Susanne Sundfør - The Silicone Veil
Back in March, Norwegian songstress Susanne Sundfør released The Silicone Veil , a 10-track exercise in string-kissed, electronically influenced art pop. Above, you can stream the standout title track from the album. One of the aspects I admire most about Susanne's music is her exploratory approach to songwriting. Rather than settling with commonplace chord progressions and unimaginative melodies, Susanne seems determined to travel to the limits of pop music's boundaries. In addition to the use of creative vocal melodies and fleshed out chords, Susanne also excels in her song structures, introducing new instrumentation at the most appropriate [...]

Courtney Barnett- History Eraser

History Eraser by courtney barnett Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, singer-songwriter Courtney Barnett specializes in writing infectious garage pop/rock tunes. Her most recent single is "History Eraser," and it follows the debut EP she released back in April, which is titled I've Got a Friend Called Emily Ferris . Stream the single above via her Bandcamp. On "History Eraser," Courtney exhibits a laid back, carefree attitude by way of raw instrumentation and a seldom melodic, somewhat conversational vocal delivery. Behind the song's deceptive air of laziness, however, is an impressive amount of discipline. The [...]

Old Gray- Everything I Let Go & The Things I Refuse To

Everything I Let Go & The Things I Refuse To by Old Gray Old Gray has put together an emotional EP hoping to convey the strong messages with the powerful force of their musical style behind it. While I may not be a fan of this particular vocalists style of screaming as it seems to be more indecipherable compared to most music in the genre I can still appreciate the power and pain that he is conveying with his screams. Along with that when you click on one of their tracks on Bandcamp it explains the meanings behind the song which is [...]

Hanz- A Made Bear At Peace

A Made Bear At Peace by Hanz Electronic producer Hanz is dishing out beats that incorporate samples in a startlingly seamless way adding to his already monstrous and unique sound. Hanz has definitely made a name for himself in my eyes with these productions. They are so unlike anything I have ever heard in this genre and the vast array of sounds he is able to cover is nearly incomprehensible for me and my ears. These are some truly creative and appealing productions that I hope an equally talented MC gets behind and does something special with. There is a great amount of [...]

The Secret- Agnus Dei

The Secret- Agnus Dei ALBUM REVIEW
Though the new Secret album presents an incredible amount of energy and force, for me, the excitement quickly wears of due to a lack of skilled writing when it comes to song structures, melodies, and riffs. WATCH THE REVIEW
