After recently already reporting about the melodic and joyful indie-folk pop of WOODLANDS’ self-titled debut album, NOTHING BUT HOPE AND PASSION is happy to bring you an exclusive free download of River Running Wild, a song from exactly that record. It's right in time for a couple of German tourdates by the Swedish band (find The post Woodlands – "River Running Wild" (Exclusive Free Download) appeared first on Nothing But Hope And Passion - NBHAP - Music Magazine & more .
OXFORD folk group Stornoway look poised to ride the wave of alt-folk giants like Mumford & Sons' success - but sadly, they really only look the part. While dressing like Mumford & Sons' sons, and sounding appropriately folky, they're unfortunately lacking in enough substance on their album, Tales From Terra Firma. Their shtick is one of a middle ground between folk bands like Beirut and journeyman indie acts like James, and while jolly enough to listen to, nothing on the LP really stays with you in the way peers like Laura Marling or Noah And The Whale can. This past year (well past by this point might I add) provided us with a slew of good to great music. There were new albums from Ben Gibbard, Muse, The Killers, and B.o.B. to name a few. They all made solid efforts in 2012, but they didn't quite crack the top ten albums. Below is my list, long overdue. 01: Of Monsters and Men - My Head is an Animal From the opening of the first track you can almost sense that this is a special effort. There is a quiet [...]

Favorite Albums of the Year Our last post of the year is the favorite albums list. Just like last year , I'll present my list of favorite albums from the year before I jump on my flight back to Denver. 2012 was an impressive year for albums, in my opinion. Last year, I had 3 albums that I loved and a bunch of [...]
First Guest Post By: Heather Having been a fan of Mumford & Sons' debut, Sigh No More, I was thrilled to hear of their recently released new album. Babel does not disappoint. The unique qualities that made their first album cling to me are intact and refined in this sophomore effort. Unlike many bands and [...]

Mumford & Sons have just released their sophomore album ‘Babel’ worldwide, the follow-up after their applauded debut album 'Sigh No More’ and one thing that was for sure already was that it would get a lot of buzz around it. Though something that I didn’t expect is that there would be such a wide array of opinion: people either love or truly hate ‘Babel’ . ‘ Sigh No More’ [...]

It’s been a while since we’ve done one of these magazines, such is the growth of our output and our team. We’re now up to 15 writers, all of whom take the time to soak up new music while holding down full-time jobs. I think we’re onto a good thing here, so I would like to thank each of them for their contributions. Alot of good records have come out since we last put together this mag, so head down to our review section for the best bits of the last few months. We discuss the return of [...]

"At times it reaches glorious peaks, but for too long feels like a poor rehash of what’s come before. The sound of a band penned in by their own sound..." Mumford & Sons | Babel It was 13 th February 2011 when Marcus Mumford and his band of merry men must have realised that their brand of banjo-toting folk-pop had got bigger than anyone ever could have expected. For this was the day that, with waistcoats on, neck ties tied and trucker cap firmly clamped on top of brow, Mumford & Sons performed [...]

The success of Mumford & Sons both in the UK and across the pond has been staggering. What started as fairly positive reviews and an excellent live show has morphed into millions of albums sold, festival headlining slots, a film, a festival of their own and countless awards. Their second album, Babel , scheduled for release in September and people are getting excited. Very excited. Us included. While we highlighted a number of live cuts a few weeks ago and guessed at what we thought Babel would sound like, we now [...]

"Compared by critics to Arcade Fire, they veer more towards the emulation of Mumford & Sons on this assured debut..." Of Monsters and Men | My Head In An Animal For all the things that Iceland is associated with – like volcanoes, Top Gear and that awful Journey to the Centre of the Earth movie - music isn’t really one of them. Aside from Sigur Rós - the BBC’s answer to an apparent branding crisis – the Atlantic island hasn’t turned out a great deal of artists that have been noticed by [...]

One of the most eagerly anticipated albums of what's left of 2012, Mumford & Sons' Babel will see the group try and follow up the phenomenal success of 20092s Sigh No More . Released in late September, there is no word yet on what the first single will be, so we've done a bit of detective work to help you find out just what Babel could sound like. Over the past year or so the band have played a fair number of these new songs live or in radio sessions. [...]

All this summer uppity dance crap is getting to us and we can't wait to get down to basics and listen to music of the heart and soul like the strums of Laura Marling who is prepping her third full-length album A Creature I Don't Know for a September 12th, 2011 release. This may or may not be on the record, but it most likely will. We're just guessing by the lyrical prowess and arrangement. Related articles 'Through [...]
