With London’s Camden Crawl taking a holiday (moving to Dublin but bizarrely retaining its Camden Crawl name) there’s a possible gap in the market for other multi-venue festivals in the UK’s capital. One such event is Communion Record’s one day event Bushstock which returns for its third year on June 1st. Bushstock doesn’t sprawl itself over the city like other multi-venue events do, instead it keeps things compact with just four venues in South-West London three of which, [...]
Perks of running a music blog full-time? Following the music, of course! And in this case, I'm fortunate enough to be able to make my way over to Barcelona for the Primavera Sound music festival, which takes place later this week (tickets still available here ). Things officially kick off today, but given there are only ~15 bands playing, I figured I'd skip to Thursday. It seems to have a mostly indie-rock slant, and I can't even count how many bands are playing. Here are the acts I'll be making sure not to miss: [...]

Bands of the day: Goonam, Ilona, Night Engine Venue of the day: Mello Mello The previous two days of Liverpool Sound City 2013 had seen the music kick off around 6 PM, but as a special Saturday treat, the Korean delegation arranged a showcase at the Kazimier Gardens from the unearthly hour of 2 PM. As well as showcasing four of the country’s finest bands, there was a delicious and in-no-way-an-incentive-to-turn -up spread of native Korean food and drink. [...]

More of Martin's high-res photos from day 2 can be found on his Flickr. Bands of the day: Concrete Knives, Wolf People, Melody’s Echo Chamber Venue of the day: Screenadelica One not-to-be-underestimated benefit of an event being held in Liverpool is the impressive situational architecture. I chose a hotel based entirely on cost and availability, and yet it boasted a fine view of the Mersey estuary and is continuously watched over by that Liver bird which [...]
Every aspect of this weekend's Hangout Music Festival in Gulf Shores, Alabama promises to deliver. Now in its fourth year, the fest boasts an impressive lineup featuring legends Tom Petty and Stevie Wonder headlining alongside Kings of Leon. With all-you-could-ask-for amenities, including pools at the main stage and hammocks lining rows of palm trees, coupled with forecasts calling for sunny skies and highs in the upper 70s, it's slated to be a perfect weekend. Though general admission 3-day passes are now sold out , a few single day tickets remain . Also, if you can't [...]

With the stars of tomorrow, the wannabe stars of tomorrow and the ones just doing it for the love of music irrespective of stardom or what happens tomorrow strumming, bashing, plucking and pressing their musical wares in every pub, club and gig venue down by the sea in Brighton over the course of three days it can only mean one thing. Yes, it’s the Great Escape Music festival; Brighton’s answer to SXSW and the UK’s largest and most established multi-venue new music festival. [...]

Third day at Sound City 2013 , and I was flagging. Martin made the perfect suggestion that we should check out the Korean bands day showcase, where there would also be free food and booze on offer. Besides, I'd not been to the Kazimier Gardens yet, which both him and John had waxed philosophical on their home brew and laid-back atmosphere. Afternoon sorted then. I didn't photograph any of the bands, as we had Martin with us there, so check out his review of day 3 for those. What I mostly [...]
Header photo by TGTF Head Photographer Martin Sharman Saturday’s frivolities at Sound City 2013 began at the naturally striking Kazimier Gardens, where the Korean day showcase was taking place. You can hear about and see great photos of the bands from Martin, but for one, the food and atmosphere was exactly what you wanted at around three in the afternoon, when your football team has just been mercilessly relegated from the Championship (yes, I’m bitter). That being that the booze was gently flowing, the sun was beating [...]

This week the wonderful guys and gals at Outlook Festival did something very special. They revealed the BOAT PARTIES. Outlook Festival, the jewel of the Croatian Coast is an event not to be missed, like some wonderful sunset of the summer it comes at the end of August carrying us (not so) gently into september with a line up featuring more bass, beats and badman riddims the world has EVER SEEN. And how do these guys make it more exciting? THEY MAKE PARTIES - ON BOATS. [...]
Sound City 2013 , day 2, began with me waking up to the strains of a Reverend and the Makers ' YouTube playlist blaring out of John's iPad. Mission accomplished from the previous night , I'd say. We headed into the convention portion of the festival and my first stop was a radio pluggers' panel with heavyweights of the radio industry, including 6music's Chris Hawkins, Radio22s Janice Long, and 6music producer Julie Cullen. As a regular BBC Radio music listener, it was really interesting to hear the presenters and producers' takes on [...]

Header photo by TGTF Head Photographer Martin Sharman Home-grown boys Alpha Male Tea Party ’s set started abruptly, causing the amassed gaggle of hipsters to spill their cans of Tuborg. The three-piece. who could only be described as being dressed like male ejaculate, ripped into their set with a wave of screeching guitars passing over the crowd in Screenadelica, a venue which did its best to remind you of a scene from any poor horror film, but with more attractive artwork. They busted out the [...]

Martin's high-res photos from the Thursday can be viewed on his Flickr. Acts of the day: Moongaï , Findlay , The Oreoh!s Venue of the day: Kazimier Gardens It wasn't until the final night of Liverpool Sound City 2013 , whilst tramping up Seel Street for the umpteenth time that weekend, that I had a flash of the blindingly obvious: that people other than music fans are allowed to party [...]
