Probably the greatest thing about SXSW is that nearly any time of day or night – or maybe any time before 11 AM – there is someone, somewhere gigging. The numerous day parties given by blogs, magazines, labels, PR companies and anyone else with the money and the get up and go to put on a show are often free and provide an entirely different atmosphere than the evening counterparts. The seemingly ubiquitous Kendrick Lamar and fellow TDE member Ab-Soul provide electronic band Awolnation with some hip-hop flavor, each dropping verse's on the group's original track, "Sail." The hit single originally premiered in 2011, but the two label mates still found it relevant enough to refurbish it a bit, justifying that EDM and Hip-Hop can successfully merge with one another (sometimes). An in-store spoken word performance by Sage Francis at the Record Exchange preceded even Treefort's official kick off and I can't imagine a better way to have warmed up for the weekend's festivities, i.e., by getting real with some capital "F" Feelings.
