M. Ward has got a new video for his song "Rave On." Opting to forgo the camera himself, the video is a mix of animation and animated characters in real-life backgrounds. Very worth the watch.
When it comes to singer/songwriters, M. Ward is at the top of the pops. His latest effort, Hold Time , is easily one of his most diverse; pulling on the help of Zooey Deschanel, Lucinda Williams, and Tom Hagerman to name a few. But the variety doesn't stop there. Merge Records just released a video for "Rave On", the second single from M. Ward 's 2009 release Hold Time (read our review here ). The Zooey fans were probably hoping Matt would follow up " Hold Time "'s video with some sort of visual treatment for " Never Had Nobody Like You ," but they have cotton commercials to hold them over. And, yes, Deschanel also shows up on Ward's cover of Buddy Holly's "Rave On," albeit as a more-distant, basically disembodied backup vocalist. Regardless, Mike Please sets the clip in a windy world of strange wooden puppets that doesn't follow any sort of clear associative map, outside of the protagonist's boxier take on Holly's specs.
