![[Introducing] – Drowner](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4057892_lg.jpg)
Tweet I've got to be honest, when I'm working through the inbox, one of the first things I like to check out is what bands influence the ones that contact us. Being an '80s kid into early indie/goth, bands like The Jesus And Mary Chain , The Cure and My Bloody Valentine tend to stoke my fire. Drowner were onto a good start from the off then, quoting two of those bands (The Cure and My [...]
An extremely welcome surprise in 2011 was Reports From The Threshold Of Death, a throbbing, gauzy dream-rock record from Boston's Junius (read here). One shitty major magazine described Reports as the intersection of Neurosis and The Smiths, but a sharper listen reveals Deftones-sized hooks and melancholic majesty more akin to Loveless by My Bloody Valentine and [...]

Like the title says, just a couple tunes that really stood out in my listenings yesterday. A couple of all-time greats, to be sure: Neil Young: Mellow My Mind (From "Tonight's The Night" , 1975) My Bloody Valentine: Sometimes (From " Loveless" , 1991)

Unlike London based blogs we sometimes feel a tad left out up here in the frozen north, consoled only by our warm beer, pies, our amusing flat cap collection and our prize winning whippets. If we had a pound for every time a manager, record label or PR company asked us if we'd like to "pop down" to Water Rats or Koko that very evening to see the latest bright young things we'd have, oooh, about £76.00. The point we are clumsily trying to make is that although the net has shrunk the world, it's still very difficult to keep [...]

In the holiday spirit, Christian Strobe has released a generous gift: all of his 2011 remixes in a free download package entitled Reworks #1 . I'm not the biggest follower of the "remix" scene, but I'm always excited to see Christian Strobe give his unique touch to any track. These aren't blown-out electro-house remixes -- they're danceable infusions of nu-disco, tranced-out, dreamy sounds that always complement the track they're modifying perfectly. Strobe doesn't just make great remixes -- he also does a good job curating unique tracks to exact his treatment on. I was super pleased [...]

As a late Christmas gift, Christian Strobe comes with a package full of remixes. His first remix album and it's named "Reworks #1". In other words, we hopefully going to see a new package like this next year again. During 2011 Christian has remixed acts such as M83, Tensnake, Arcade Fire, Katy Perry and Holy Ghost! Now he's collected them all, among with the remixes for My Bloody Valentine and Lips, making this into a 7-track-album, and it's all for free. Thank you Santa Strobe! Because we already posted the remixes of [...]

Sunny sundae smile - My Bloody Valentine " Let's fall in love. It's exciting. " My Bloody Valentine rule. I like so much that they were once like this. I prefer this era as well, surprise surprise. An embarrassing, covered up, twee past that is never celebrated or enshrined in music lists. Eat it, people who won't ever go back to here because of exactly what here is. And this sentiment and view always remained, just obscured more and more by noise, reverse reverb [...]

Putain 20 ans ! « We don't get any younger », comme dit quelqu'un que je connais bien. Ce disque a fait couler des hectolitres d'encre. En cherchant un peu, on peut même trouver des thèses sur le sujet. Alors pourquoi rouvrir le débat ? Parce que avec ou sans mauvais jeu de mots, c'est le genre de post qui peut se [...]

(Released in November of 1991, My Bloody Valentine's Loveless turns 20 this month. Below Scott McDonald reflects on his enduring relationship with the classic record. - AD) Remember your first concert? I do, and I have some slight hearing loss in my left ear because of it. An old and very close friend of mine [...]
True story: I really wanted this to be the "first dance" track at my wedding. My Bloody Valentine 's "We Have All the Time in the World" is an amazing John Barry-composed cover, you might notice the title and think of Louis Armstrong's voice from the James Bond film On Her Majesty's Secret Service . But this version is insane, kind of like the slow-dance anthem of the future. A very dramatic sound that shows My Bloody Valentine ditching their trademark guitar wash for synths and sweeping, watery drones, and Belinda's vocals are both alien-like and seductive [...]

It's none too often that the arrival of a release in the inbox (either electronic or tangible) provokes such palpable excitement as this ambiguous, star-crossed and shoegazey EP from Neil Weir. Now recording under the guise of Devil on the Beach , Weir's four-sided extended-play of the same name merely features a Fender Jazzmaster, a concoction of pedals impeccably suited to the mellow tones produced by his chosen plank of wood, and an analogue drum machine, and it instantly pushes the senses deep down into dulcet mellifluousness. The gentle gushes of Side 3 are the most transcendental here encompassed, [...]

It's been a bit slow around here, huh? Sorry about that! I've been teaching three classes, working on a research project, and dealing with the Zombie Dissertation From Hell "! I really do want to be a good blogger again... honest. But until that day, it's time for a quick recap of some of the stuff that has gone whizzing by in my absence. I hope you enjoy! Recently, John Darnielle took to Twitter to give us a new Mountain Goats song in the form of the excellent, lo-fi "Thucydides II-58." You can read [...]

I tip my hat to 'Loveless' from My Bloody Valentine which is now 20 years old and what an album it is! The best Irish album of all time? Maybe! I actually think the 'second side' of the album was leagues ahead of the slower first side and the album finished with the wonderful 'Soon'! Soon - My Bloody Valentine by jvictor7
