"Ghosts is not a valiant effort. Without the back line of humor or silliness, the songs just come off far too serious, even tedious, their brashness not translating to record in any way. They end up sounding almost domineering. But really, at the end of the day 'Ghosts' is a completely mediocre record. It's got high-points, it's got low points, but really it just falls into a disagreeable, insufficient medium. At the best of times it's only good enough to forget that you're listening to it." When I first heard King Tuff, I was shocked and appalled that I had never even heard his name tossed around before, that's just how up my alley this guy is. To be fair though, King Tuff are based out of Vermont and I've never made it a priority on keeping up with what's going on up there. Album review: As spring awakens and its rays of sunshine fleetingly emerge, a nation of pasty-faced hopefuls reach for the Ray-Bans and make like it's August in Ibiza. It's the British way. But if ever there was a soundtrack to fool you into false beliefs of summer abandonment, the 'TSBAGC' is surely a frontrunning contender. Drenched in a nonchalant, South Coast swagger, but [...]
Let me tell you a little about my history with the Strange Boys, and maybe it'll shed some light as to why I am/was so excited about their album ("And Girls Club") that just came out on In The Red records on March 3. About a year ago, in February of 2008, I went to Austin to see Black Lips. They had two openers, one was this awful band called White Denim (and we don't talk about them - at least until their singer puts some fucking shoes on) and the second being this awesome local band called [...]
