Nas' highly anticipated, tenth studio album- Life Is Good- hit stores today. Most of his critical acclaim at this point is redundant; the guy's prodigal, a true Shakespeare amongst this ingrate generation of self-proclaimed rap gods. Don't get me wrong, Jay-Z's great, but I think we now know who watches the throne and whose taken command. "Loco-Motive" may be something like the hundredth leak that's dropped in advance of Nas ' newest effort Life Is Good (due July 17th), but, like everything that has been previewed from the set so far, the record continues to find the rapper sounding like he's on the verge of dropping a "five mic" killer. Boasting credits that include No I.D. on production and Large Professor as hook hype-man, and finding Nasir effortlessly slinging evocative lyrical illustrations of his hard knock New York come-up that make descriptions of chowing down [...]
Deen's only problem with the 90s is that the word "Fanute" had yet to be discovered. I could only listen to this once. But that's because I've heard enough from Life Is Good at this point and want to salvage that initial listening experience by avoiding further leaks. Still. HOLY SHIT! This is excellent and I'm certain that isn't just the stan in me rejoicing. Well this is an all-star lineup if I've ever seen one. Nas grabs Large Professor for "Loco-Motive" which is produced by the legendary No I.D. These three artists single-handedly defined Hip-Hop in 1994 with their work on Illmatic and Common's Resurrection , and it is only right Nas ends the song by repeating "This is for trapped in the 902s n***as".
