Words by Jacob I have failed you, readers. I, your soundtracking guide through the seasons, dropped the ball on summer '12. Sure, I submitted an Independence Day column, both to help you host the world's most uncomfortable cookout and to support the eternal re-election of President Bill Pullman, but I skipped an actual summer edition, and for this I apologize. But now summer is at an end, and back to work we must go. Unless you have a real job, in which case [...]

NBC's Parenthood continued to garner success both critically and in popularity with its second season. Stepping up the drama with a few key characters making life altering decisions, the show reminds us that primetime TV doesn't have to take place in a hospital or a crime lab. Not only did Parenthood Season 2 bring us some quality television, but its use of music got even better. While still containing a lot of the folk/acoustic sound that became the show's standby in Season 1 (including the likes of James Vincent McMorrow and S. Carey), the [...]

We got a lotta love for The National here. They've been a little quiet of late though. But now they are kind of back with an appearance on the soundtrack of Game of Thrones. 'The Rains of Castomere' starts with Matt Berninger's deep rumble all alone before being joined by swelling horns and synths. No room for drums or guitar here folks. Game Of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin wrote the lyrics himself, with Berninger adding his baritone vocal to it.
The National have now added a song on The Game of Thrones, titled 'The Rains of Castamere' that is now a part of their resume. The National's front man Matt Berninger's voice works perfectly for this role on the shows soundtrack, it is a haunting tune that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
The National have written an epic oeuvre for The Game of Thrones , which will appear on the Season 2 soundtrack. Matt Berninger's rich, raspy voice provides that irresistible drama the band so masterfully creates, which is so fitting for the popular drama. According to Game Of Thrones' website forums, “The Rains of Castamere” is about the “violent dynastic struggles among the kingdom’s noble families for control of the Iron Throne.” Check it out above.

The National are keeping busy between albums by contributing a song to the Game of Thrones Season 2 soundtrack called The Rains of Castamere . This song, for those familiar, is about Tywin Lannister's smashing of House Reyne during the Reyne-Tarbeck Rebellion. It appears during many important points in the story and is referenced in the books. You can stream the lovely ballad below.
The CW has been famous for bringing us plenty of teen drama in the form of hit TV shows ( Dawson's Creek , One Tree Hill , etc.), and even for introducing us to some science fiction drama (like Supernatural) . Both formulas came together to bring us The Vampire Diaries , based the on novel series by L.J. Smith. The Vampire Diaries Season 2 saw the plot thicken as the love triangle between Elena, Stefan and Damon grew stronger as new monsters were introduced to the show. That's right, you guessed it: [...]
We all know Portal 2 for its mind-bending puzzles and biting black humor. But its clever music deserves a nod too.
Recently a contest was held to make a video for The National 's contribution ("Exile, Vilify") for the video game, Portal 2's soundtrack. The winner (out of 320 entries), as chosen by the band themselves, was about a sad looking sock puppet. I have to say though, I prefer the video that was chosen as #1.00000000001. Watch both down below. [#1 Video] [#1.00000000001 Video]

If you say that you've thought of putting The National on the soundtrack to ANY video game, then I say you're a liar. Surely this is something that shouldn't work, or happen, or even come about it, but somehow they've ended up on the soundtrack to Portal 2, a science-fiction based puzzle game. I never played the first installment although I heard plenty about it, and I'm not sure how this fits into the game's soundscape when the first game was almost all ambient/instrumental music. The National do have a sort of empty, [...]
The National have a new song entitled "Exile Vilify" for the high-anticipated video game Portal 2 ! It’s pretty good and all, but nothing beats the end credit song—"Still Alive" by Jonathan Coulton—from the first game!

I guess The National love being on soundtracks. After the fantastic, “Think You Can Wait” from WIn Win , the band has recorded a new song for video game Portal 2 . “Exile Vilify” is a gorgeous, piano driven ballad. I’m just getting upset that this won’t be on an actual release from them. This is way too good to be used for a video game. The National - Exile Vilify by Hypetrak via hypetrak [...]

The National played a killer set at Coachella over the weekend. If you were lucky enough to be there, well, try not to brag. The rest of us had to settle for watching the live stream. What was up with those weird-ass acid flashback visuals? Anybody? Anyway, Matt Berninger and co. have been keeping busy since then. "Exile Vilify" is a new track set to be released as part of the soundtrack to the video game Portal 2. The heavy atmosphere, courtesy of that piano/orchestra dynamic, reminds me a lot of that last new National song, "Think You [...]

Oh, happy day. Not only was Portal 2 released, but this single from The National , too. It's a piano-driven number, much like their contribution to the Win Win Soundtrack , only more chilly. Gorgeous nonetheless. Even if the cake is still a lie . Purchase it here . The brooding boys from Brooklyn have pushed out another solid track in the form of Exile Vilify. Oddly enough it appears on the soundtrack to the latest blockbuster video game Portal 2. Although the track probably won't be called for during an encore it's a simple look at how great The National really are. mp3 : The National - Exile Vilify + more The National @ twf hype elbows site last.fm amazonmp3 itunes add [...]
