Annapolis based rock/soul band Sweet Leda soared to the top of our reader's poll for Best Emerging Band of 2011. This support undoubtedly came after numerous releases ( This is Bittersweet , Bittersweet Changes , Need the Music ) and features in TV and films over the last 4.5 years of their culmination. Baltimore based "chilling out" masters Vacationer are having a big 2012 already. The band, who makes music that makes you feel like you're on a vacation (pun intended) just released the first single, "Gone", from their LP of the same name on January 31st. The new album was produced by members of NYC "chilling out" faves Body Language and will be released March 20th via Downtown Records. In fact, the smooth-fi crew is doing a weekend run of Boston, Philly and Baltimore with the popular jam band outfit from Chicago. Satori Trova will be throwing a bash to kick off their Pledgemusic.com fundraising drive. Fans will be able to pre-order a copy of their forthcoming debut EP, as well choose from a bunch of other cool incentives, such as recording a song with the band. Having recorded and mixed the album themselves in their home studio, the pledges received will go towards mastering and duplication. Twenty percent of all proceeds will go to Gilda's Club (Cancer Support Community) which leads the way in helping people affected by cancer by connecting them with support networks and treatment centers. Don't miss a new installation of John Vettese's " Still Life " (a series dedicated to showcasing experimental/ambient music) tonight in the Side Chapel of the First Unitarian Church! Sharon Van Etten is a New Jersey native who is currently based in Brooklyn and she's just released her third album, called Tramp . She's another artist I heard on the radio recently, and it was actually the first I'd heard of her at all. A little bit of time on the internet told me she's been making good music for a good few years (her first album came out in 2009). Heather Smith is force behind the beautiful sounds of Bone & Bell . She is back by a solid band consisting of Ryan Farnham (drums- formerly of Catfish Haven), Rick Roberts (bass, keys) and Jason Tuller (guitar, bass). The band released their debut ep last year and it can be downloaded on their for free. They are currently planning to release their debut LP this Spring. The band recently appeared on Rooftop Chicago. You can catch Bone & Bell at Schubas on Feb. 14th with Talkdemonic and Cafe Le Bon.

Fox The Cat came together back in October, and have now released their debut 3 song ep. The five piece band lean more towards the rootsy side of indie rock, and have a solid collective sound. You can catch Fox The Cat at Reggies on Feb 19 opening for Sybris and Asobi Seksu.

South Philly's Rajesh Haldar a.k.a Lushlife has consistently proven why he is a force to be reckoned with in both the city's hip hop and indie scenes. Here's a new music video from Chiddy Bang for the track "By Your Side" that gives a little hometown love. The song does not appear on their forthcoming album Breakfast (due out Feb. 28), but they made this video "for the fans." It was directed by Xaphoon Jones .

Northeast Philly's Power Animal a.k.a. Keith Hampson will be performing at the First Unitarian Church tonight. Though Hampson's project has gone through many changes in the past year or so, no longer surrounded by a percussive and strangely endearing gang of misfits. Below is a new song and video from Busses called "Radio." It was recorded at the previous session that produced their video "Liar" from last year. The footage was filmed and edited by Joshua Camerote, audio was recorded by Jason Sexton, and the mural installation was provided by Bonnie Brenda Scott.
