You might know her from previous releases as Lauren Zettler but boy has there been a revamp and we're loving it. Her new project, Lightyear , is about to release their first EP in September/October titled " All Of The Miles " . Recorded in Nashville in January of this year there is nothing country about this EP. Taking her music into a much more confident sounding direction with lusher instrumentation and layered vocals, we're incredibly excited to see where this project takes her. Lightyear::All Of [...]

They are one of my favorite new bands and while they're on their second album so they're not technically "new", Boxer Rebellion are just starting to pick up speed thanks to a beautiful, anthemic album and a solid spot as the band in the movie "Going The Distance" with Drew Barrymore and Justin Long. We got a little time with them before their headlining show at Music Hall of Williamsburg and shot this quick video with Nathan their lead singer. Back in January we traveled to Nashville to film some recordings and although it was not planned, managed to squeeze in some video time with the wonderful Matthew Perryman Jones. Check him out below performing his song, "Rain or Shine" and my favorite cover that he does, Patty Griffin's "Top Of The World". . .

A few weeks ago we went over to Katie Costello's apartment and apart from laughing at each other's jokes we also made this video for your viewing pleasure. Please note that she is wearing slippers for this performance, making it extra special. Katie Costello "Cassette Tape" Get Glucky Blog - Katie Costello from Lauren Glucksman on Vimeo . For more of Katie Costello listen to one of my favorite songs from her album "Lamplight" [...]
I saw a lot of great shows at SXSW; Ellie Goulding, Matthew & The Atlas, Dry The River, Jamie Woon, Penguin Prison and more. Some of my favorite discoveries were bands I didn't even get to see but heard some other way. First of those is Phantogram , a duo from upstate NY, I fell in love with them instantly thanks to their song "When I'm Small". I will not be surprised if this song is sound-tracking a major advert in about 5 minutes. When I'm Small [...]

For fans of Mumford & Songs, Johnny Flynn (they opened for the two bands on a tour last year), Fleet Foxes or general beautiful folky sounds. No American dates yet but should you be reading this in London, they have an EP release show at The Lexington on April 14th. You can buy tickets HERE. A perfect soundtrack to winter, staying in doors, turning it up and hiding from the rest of the world. Wouldn't hurt if you had a burning [...]
Oh man! I'm so happy to be writing the first post of the new year and the first post on this blog with a total redesign on Jessie J. Some of you might already be like "Yawn, we knew about her months ago" and some of you might have no idea who i'm talking about. She is 22 and has already written for Justin Timberlake, Chris Brown, Alicia Keys and Christina Aguilera. Oh and she also wrote that little known song "Party In The USA" for Miley Cyrus. She's releasing her own material now and as [...]

A friend of mine said she was managing a new artist. The artist happens to be crazy good. Lady Lamb The Beekeeper is the kind of young that makes you feel like you better step up your game in whatever you're doing, the kind of poetic lyricist that makes you want to pick up a thesaurus and the kind of musician that gives you that little reminder on a grey day in New York why you get so excited by music in the first place. So much raw potential here. [...]
Happy New Year to you all wherever you may dwell. Let's start the year off right shall we? With a big holy crap I love this and a lot of holy crap I need this.

It's been a while since a song has really caught my attention and my ears have devoted a little fanclub to it. I'm excited to say I have a current new obsession. There's something so grand about this song but so sweet at the same time. Like if Arcade Fire hadn't been used to soundtrack the Where The Wild things Are trailer then this would have been perfect. Don't be confused by the name, they're not a metal band or all that fond of skulls as far as I can see. Hailing from London but with a blues-rock sound reminiscent of the White Stripes or the Dead Weather, this is a new record that i've been spinning around and around. Opening for Metric on their current US tour, don't miss them! Band Of Skulls Myspace for tour dates and more.
I'm back in Brooklyn after a little summer visit to London and apart from the previously mentioned Marina & The Diamonds and Ellie Goulding who we heard and loved, there are a few more. Our Brooklyn family came over to represent; Holly Miranda played a special showcase preview thing for XL recordings and sounded fantastic as always. Another band that played the showcase was The XX who I no can't wait to see live again or for their debut record to come out. In the meantime here is their song [...]
I've been in London for a few days and new music has found its way to my ears. I've written about both these girls before but things seem to be moving quickly for them so here's a slightly more updated... update? Marina & The Diamonds "I'm Marina, You are the diamonds..." I Am Not A Robot (MP3) Mowgli's Road (MP3) Ellie Goulding Guns and [...]

It's too early to say i'm in love with this band because I haven't heard the whole album yet, it's in one of my moving boxes somewhere BUT I am for sure in love with their song "Tunnelvision". See the band opening up for Grizzly Bear on their current tour if you like what you hear. I think it sounds like a SUMMER DREAM. "Tunnelvision" MP3 Here you go: May 28 2009 8:00P Town Hall w/ Grizzly Bear New [...]
Heartbreak: For centuries you have fueled us humans with creativity. And now, you serve as the muse for The Shivers. "Just Didn't Need to Know" comes off from their latest release from In the Morning , and if the rest of the album is like this, hotcha. Keith Zarriello's smooth croon treats you to a tale of a sour relationship and too much information. "Don't pretend we was friends / We were never friends." If you can listen to this song without hitting repeat, sucks to be you. MP3: The Shivers- "Just [...]

Ah Canada. How do I ever repay you for all that you have given to me. By blogging about lots of your bands? Cool. Hailing from Hamilton, Ontario, Young Rival are: Aron D'Alesio Noah Fralick Kyle Kuchmey John Smith Emery Dobyns (Lou Reed, Patti Smith) produced their six-song EP. Their Myspace describes their music as "short and punchy - from the titles to the chord progressions to the songs". Opener "Your Island" sounds like it belongs in the '60s but manages [...]

In my frazzled brain in 2008 I somehow thought i'd already written a piece about White Lies, clearly I was wrong. I know they're not exactly unknown anymore but I'll just have to hope they're still a secret to some of you out there. White Lies have already had the hype whispers about them going on for months but after a few single releases they have finally released their debut album that went to the number 1 spot in the UK. Formerly known as a band called Fear Of Flying that [...]

Just before Christmas I went to see the lovely Erin McCarley at the Canal Room in New York on the Ten out of Tenn tour. It was a kind of similar set up to the Hotel Cafe Tour but instead of having a house band, all the artists played on each others songs. It made for a really nice environment and there was a real sense of musical camaraderie. They all performed Christmas songs, some new and some old but Erin's take on 'Little Drummer Boy' was easily one of my favourites: Little Drummer Boy (MP3) [...]

The lead singer of this group used to be called Davie Fiddle & The Lucky Egg. I really did adore his music then as well as their live performances with raging fiddles and people chanting along - however, the name was never really going to make it to the big time now was it. So what does a smart guy do? Keep the same sound and make a new band with a better name and whole new package to present. My dear friend Zara let me know that he had changed course and so I present [...]
