Soulive's annual Bowlive Run at Brooklyn Bowl continued last night in Williamsburg. Special guests included keyboardist Marco Benevento, Los Lobos guitarist David Hidalgo, The Shady Horns and opening act The London Souls. For the encore, Soulive welcomed their guests up, with the exception of the horns, for a 20-plus-minute tribute to Neil Young. Soulive, Benevento, Hidalgo and The London Souls kicked off the encore with the Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young protest song Ohio sung by Tash Neal. The CSNY cover morphed into Neil Young's Down By [...]
Tonight Phish front man Trey Anastasio opened for one of his musical heroes, Neil Young, at the Borgata in Atlantic City, New Jersey by playing a rare solo acoustic set. Like most 67-year-old dudes, Neil Young is keeping busy doing this and that: releasing a pair of albums with Crazy Horse ( Americana and Psychedelic Pill ); publishing his memoirs ( Waging Heavy Peace ). Neil stopped by The Daily Show last night to discuss with Jon Stewart the latter project, but the two of them riffed for 12-plus minutes, roughly the length of a quality Crazy Horse jam. Watch it. Neil Young famously quit Buffalo Springfield rather than make an appearance on The Night Show with Johnny Carson back in the '60s, but ol' Neil has come around on his distaste for TV. On the occasion of Jon Stewart's 50th birthday, Neil Young stopped by The Daily Show to mainly talk about his new book - Waging Heavy Peace, but that was only the start of an interesting conversation. [Screenshot via CoS ] Stewart has shown an ability to put his guests at ease so [...]
Neil Young stopped by The Daily Show last night to hang out with Jon Stewart on the late night host's 50th birthday. What started out as a discussion on Young's latest autobiography, Waging Heavy Peace , turned into something with a little more depth. As usual, the Crazy Horse frontman broke out of his rough, thick shell and yanked out a couple of yucks. "You know, behind the scenes, I'm really nice," Young contended, pointing to the book's cover. "You see, this guy, right here, he's not very happy looking. I don't know why they always [...]
Last week we told you about Neil Young and Crazy Horse dusting off the electric version of Helpless for the first time in decades. Well last night they did it again as an encore at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario, a fitting place considering some of the local references within the song. The video we showed off of the Helpless bust out in Calgary wasn't great, but there's a fabulous clip of yesterday's take thanks to YouTuber carsoni4 . We couldn't [...]
Watch The Civil Wars, Dwight Yoakam, Cowboy Junkies, John C. Reilly and more perform covers live at the annual San Francisco festival.
As a prelude to some sporadic activity in 2012 - including a month-long residency in Vegas and a three-city tour in India - Guns N' Roses performed this past Saturday and Sunday nights at the Bridge School Benefit in Mountain View, CA. For Sunday night's performance, they brought none other than Neil Young himself to the stage for a version of "Don't Let It Bring You Down," from 19702s After The Gold Rush . Axl and Neil trade off on vocals but it's not exactly an even pairing: Axl's vocal sounds especially strained; Neil's actually sounds kinda robust. I'm [...]
While we pointed you towards video of Guns N' Roses' Bridge School Benefit debut on Saturday at Shoreline, the band had a major change in their set for the second day of the two-day event. Towards the end of GN'R's set, lead singer Axl Rose stepped to the mic and introduced the benefit's founder and host Neil Young to partake in a fantastic version of Neil's 1970 classic Don't Let It Bring You Down. Axl and Neil shared vocals on Don't Let It Bring You Down. At [...]
Just hours before Neil Young and Crazy Horse were set to close out the second day of this past weekend's Austin City Limits Music Festival at Zilker Park in Austin, Texas, YouTube and festival organizers quietly added the headlining performance to its webcast schedule. The bombastic set included the first Crazy Horse take on the Neil Young classic Down By The River since 2004. If you missed the webcast, we've got you covered. Thanks to "happy" you can watch 3/4s of Neil Young and Crazy Horse's [...]

We've already posted the entire Foo Fighters set and the "super jam" version of Rockin' In The Free World from Saturday's Global Citizen Festival, as well as a full review of the event, but since Neil Young and Crazy Horse's full set from the fest just surfaced we can't help but post that too. From my review ... After a series of speeches, Neil Young and Crazy Horse came out and wasted no time in getting to the guitar solos. If [...]
Last night, Neil Young with Crazy Horse headlined the Global Citizen Festival in New York's Central Park. When it came time for the band to close the show with Young's "Kep On Rockin' In The Free World," they'd welcome all of the performers from earlier in the night: Foo Fighters, The Black Keys, Band of Horses and K'naan. Watch the video below and head over to globalcitizen.org to find out how you can help support gender equality, primary education, environmental ...
Neil Young and Crazy Horse will return at the end of October with their second album of the year, a brand new 8-track effort titled Psychedelic Pill . Now, you can hear the first song from the forthcoming album, a four-minute radio version of "Walk Like a Giant", one of three songs from the album that lasts a whopping 16 minutes. Watch the official video for the shortened version below, chock-full of imagery of Albert Einstein, Atomic bombs, and the elusive Bigfoot. Psychedelic Pill is out on October 30th. [...]
The wait is over - we can finally hear new original studio material from Neil Young and Crazy Horse . Rolling Stone has just debuted the video for Walk Like A Giant - the first single from Psychedelic Pill. The track clocks in at over 16 minutes on the album, but for the sake of the video it's 4:30 long. Neil Young - Walk Like A Giant
Stereogum Neil Young has Crazy Horse out on a North American tour stretching from now until December, and "Twisted Road" is one of its brand new set pieces. It features Neil solo with acoustic, singing about some titans from his record collection: there's a verse about the first time he heard Dylan's "Like A Rolling Stone," some lines about listening to the Dead on the radio, references to Sam Cooke's " Good Times ," etc. A song about being a fan of songs, from the tour's Red Rocks [...]
