After the Goldrush is possibly smallest album in the running for the greatest album of all time. There's just something about Neil Young--he's able to prick your heart in ways that no one else can. Not Dylan, not Lennon, not Gaye. The personal becomes so small, the longing so dear, the end so close. Marissa Nadler's Covers II record remains one of the most rewarding of the year. One gets the image of a concert in your living room. Who knows, maybe Neil would stop on by...

Frank Yang It probably amounts to some sort of Can-rock heresy, but I think I actually like Bry Webb on his own more than I ever did with Constantines . I fully acknowledge why many hold the Cons up as one of the greatest Canadian rock acts of the past however many years/decades/centuries - I've seen them live , I know what they were capable of - but the fact is, his solo debut Provider has captivated me more than any of the [...]

Last February Revolution Rock hosted a series of special programming, and this year will be no different. Starting on February 7th Revolution Rock will celebrate Black History Month by playing a mix of Soul, R&B, Jazz, Funk and Blues. The remaining weeks will also feature a different type of program each week until February 28th, where I will coincide the month's worth of programming with my annual Surf Rock show. Revolution Rock Celebrates Black History Month [...]
Neil Young and Crazy Horse have already completed Americana .

Neil Young wants to preserve the sound quality of current rock recordings – and he believes he had an ally in the late Steve Jobs. "My goal is to try and rescue the art form that I've been practicing for the past 50 years," Young said during a panel discussion at a media conference in California. "We live in the digital age and, unfortunately, it's degrading our music, not improving it." "Steve Jobs [was] a pioneer of digital music, and his legacy is tremendous," Young said. "But when he went home, he listened to vinyl. [...]

It's safe to say that without the tireless efforts of Alan Lomax , the world may never have been introduced to the likes of Woody Guthrie, Muddy Waters, Leadbelly or countless other musicians the folklorist and ethnomusicologist recorded on dusty back roads, barns or just about anywhere else he could set up his recording gear. Lomax spent his entire career making field recordings of folk and traditional music, both in the U.S. and abroad, amassing a collection of 5,000 hours of sound recordings, 400,000 feet of film, 3,000 videotapes, 5,000 photographs and piles of manuscripts. Some 17,000 tracks from [...]

After endorsing Occupy Audio last month, the iconic singer-songwriter now says he and Steve Jobs were working on a next generation iPod prior to the Apple founder's death. Speaking at the D: Dive Into Media technology conference -- and reported by The Guardian -- Young said: "Steve Jobs [was] a [...]
Jack White is going solo Foo Fighters -"These Days" Garbage releasing new album Flaming Lips feat. Erykah Badu and Siri - "Now I Understand" Neil Young/Crazy Horse jams

Words // Scott Pingeton With rumor swirling, and now hard proof , that Neil Young was recording new music with Crazy Horse, I've started digging back into my own Shakey archives. As much as I love all incarnations of Neil Young, the Crazy Horse is my favorite - who doesn't love those long jams on "Down By The River" and "Cortez The Killer", or the sheer power of "Powderfinger" or "Hey Hey, My My"? Here's a brilliant recording of NY and Crazy Horse at the Boston Music Hall in 1976. An incredible [...]
Take a train ride through the Irish countryside with Fionn Regan's new album, 100 Acres of Sycamore.
Neil Young's official website was updated on Saturday with a 37-minute video that thrilled and excited fans not for its visuals, but for the audio. It features mesmerizing jams recorded early this month by Young and his legendary Crazy Horse outfit. Entitled Horse Back, the 37-minute jam contains hints of classic tunes Cortez The Killer and Fuckin' Up. Our friends over at Thrasher's Wheat have been figuring out the answers to the many questions this video has raised. Let's hope this clip is a precursor to a long-awaited Crazy Horse tour announcement. [...]

Killbeat If we were to spool up the Wayback Machine to November 2006 , you'd find a post where I confessed that sending me a lovely slab of vinyl was a pretty good way to get to the top of my "to listen to" pile... something that apparently still holds true over a half decade later. But as I pointed out even way back then, a listen is not the same as a writeup so I find it comforting to know that Camp Radio still has the goods to impress in whatever format they're [...]
