Download this striking, sensuous version of Arcade Fire's "My Body is a Cage," covered by singer/songwriter Anna Rose.
The art of the mashup is an awfully tricky one. On the one hand, it takes talent and courage to meld disparate musical styles into a cohesive, pleasing listen. On the other, it seems everyone throws their hat into the ring nowadays. So there's some terribly misguided combinations floating around out there. What drew me [...]
Tweet Eugh. Just look at those publicity shots. Dylan Champagne has been crafted to look like the most smug man on the planet. His fighting stance on the left is just inviting you to hit him. With photos like those, an album called "Love Songs of the Apocalypse Volume 13 and a bandcamp blurb that describes the record as "a shout-out to all the ghosts haunting the mid-sized semi-urban dystopia in my head", I fully expected to hate Champagne's music, knowing that I already hated him. [...]
Tweet It was almost exactly a year to the day when Arcade Fire started dropping some 123 vinyl singles in record stores across the world, much to the surprise of everyone. People were cropping up online posting pictures of this vinyl that wasn't announced by the band, something that shoppers were finding randomly littered amongst other vinyls in their local shop. That was "The Suburbs"/"Month Of May" , the first new music from the band in three years since 20072s [...]
Compiling this list has proven to be harder than my album break down last year (and is that because there were fewer or more "great" releases in 2010?) but there was absolutely no doubt in my mind who would steal the top spot. After trying to avoid the fanfare surrounding the release of 'The Suburbs' [...]

Tweet Bigger isn't always better. It wasn't so long ago that Arcade Fire were playing shows in spaces like the 500-capacity Union Chapel, the Victorian gothic church, where the set traditionally began or ended with the band walking amongst the crowd. These days they're headlining two nights at the 20,000 capacity O2 Arena, the biggest shows they've ever played and donating £1 from every ticket to a Haitian charity (Haiti is the birthplace of co-frontwoman Régine Chassagne) while they're at it. It takes an [...]

I've noticed that Win Butler ( Arcade Fire 's head honcho) has been wearing a fair amount of militaristic clothing lately. I suppose it's nothing entirely new, he's kinda been doing that since their inception, but this year it seems like it's more along the same lines as Chris Martin and Coldplay did with their latest album "Living La Vida Loca" and its French Revolutionary War imagery. This new video for "The Suburbs" , directed by Spike Jonze, has a political and militaristic theme to it, much like M.I.A.'s "Born Free" , but with [...]

Today, I'd like to ruminate on a personal issue that I hope some of you can relate to. You might have noticed, if you peruse the music headlines now and again, that Arcade Fire 's third album The Suburbs hit No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart the week it debuted (8/10). Number one! For all I know, it's still sitting there (I don't subscribe to Billboard, thankfully). It also hit No. 1 in the UK, Canada, Ireland and Portugal. The band's second album, Neon Bible , [...]

You might recall in 2007 when the Arcade Fire released the brief but visually haunting interactive piece for "Neon Bible," featuring the stoic, disembodied head of Brendan Reed and hands, which you could control with the click of your mouse. The experience was memorable, but with Chris Milk 's interactive film " The Wilderness Downtown ," featuring the track "We Used To Wait," the experience has been personalized down to the level of the individual viewer through the use of a clever mash-up technique that creates a music video based on a neighborhood of your choosing. [...]
After seeing Arcade Fire at Toronto Island last weekend - a dream come true - a. and I were inspired to create our own version of the album art for the three AF albums for a very special someone who we cannot name yet. Let's hope that special someone enjoys and appreciates these little works of art. There was a lot of love and patience (especially between a. and myself) that went behind the making of them. I can get a little grumpy if something is not done according to my standards and I know that [...]

by teepoo Those who saw Arcade Fire perform when Funeral came out probably found it unforgettable. The Montreal band overwhelms people with their daunting array of instruments. I never knew what a hurdy gurdy was until I saw them perform. Ten musicians usually scatter around in perpetual motion switching instruments from time to time providing the interesting sounds and textures that songwriter Win Butler had intended. Neon Bible was recorded in a Church because they thought the studio [...]
Arcade Fire is a great band, but The Suburbs is not a great album. ArcadeFire - Musical ensemble - Games - Coin-Op - Arcade Games
For more behind the scenes footage and to watch the Terry Gilliam directed webcast tonight . Probably best to wait until it's recorded though. Can't imagine YouTube will be able to handle all the streaming traffic.

Indie rock band Arcade Fire is back with their third album The Suburbs , which by the way sounds like another Platinum winner, thanks to this seven member group. Just a quick heads up before you dive into panic mode though, B-Sides has to give you a review as fresh as a new coat of paint. Hey it's in our job description and this is worth the wait. Have you ever sat back and listened to an album or even just one song and thought you've found the entire music score for an entire movie? So good [...]

In 2007, Arcade Fire released their second full-length album, Neon Bible , not only to critical acclaim, but to immense hype, as well. It seemed everywhere I turned there was some mention of the album and whether it was brilliant or just plain bad. I, like most people it seemed, purchased a copy of the album based on the strength of the few songs I had heard. However, I maybe made it through three-fourths -- possibly all the way through -- once or twice and didn't return to the album for some time. Call me [...]

(On August 3rd Merge Records released Arcade Fire's highly anticipated third album, The Suburbs . In the week leading up to the release Tale of The Tape posted some videos and brief notes on the band's history. During that time the editors exchanged emails discussing the band's beginnings to their current album. You can find the resulting conversation below.) Patrick is black. Steven is blue. I think for a band that achieved nearly instant success and stature, was [...]

Of course NPR have gone and done it again. A full day before the album gets released in North America (it's released in Europe today) they've got the stream for the entire album Pitchfork just gave it Best New Music with an 8.6 out of 10, and most other sites I've read have given it between 8 and 10 with a few others giving lower than 8. One thing I will say is that do not judge this on your first listen. My first listen I was disappointed, and about 10 spins later I really [...]

By now you may already know that Arcade Fire's new album "The Suburbs" has leaked ahead of it's August 2nd/3rd release date. By now you may already have a copy of it, or have listened to it and have heard this song already. To you, this song isn't new anymore, but to everyone else it's another taster of their third highly-anticipated album.Personally I've listened to the album a few times, however I'll reserve judgement as of yet because I like to give albums a good few listens before judging it. "Funeral" for example took me a few listens [...]
