Hey were The Jones Rival, we formed in the quite suburbs of southern Sydney. We Just released our second Single this year called “Jumpin’ Frog’. The Song has nothing to do with Jumping frogs but when we play it live, people like to jump around and get wild like some crazy south American frogs on heat! We love playing live and getting our music out into the world is awesome. 2013 has been good to us with more live shows and greater expose on ze interwebs with this last single. We are currently in the process of writing an Ep, [...]
Having been recently introduced to Salford lads The Nankeens I spoke to lead singer Adam Darby to find out a bit more about how the band got together and what they have planned following the recent release of EP Autonomy. AMBY: The Nankeens were previously two separate bands so how did you get together? AD: It was just good timing really, we knew each other from being on the same scene and had played shows together. Both bands broke up [...]

Beach Vacation formed after performing in a high school talent show and within two weeks of recording on GarageBand, were released by a label in the U.K. Their debut EP, Maritime , was launched via Bandcamp on the 29th of April. The colorful array of soothing vocals, surfy guitar riffs and rockabilly-esque drums has been received with open arms by summer loving crowds around the world. The young surf rockers mastered a well-rounded wave of four, happy-go-lucky tracks. Their sound can be compared to the likes of Beach Fossils, King Tuff, Dirty Beaches and of course, The Beach Boys [...]

i bought some animals in the backyard, they don't seem so happy there More sweet sweet magic coming out of Sweden. "Shadow of The Sun" is the first official track from these guys and it's a wispy piece of pop that builds to something you can really feel. But it is "Backyard Animals" that I am currently addicted to. The version I have on repeat has ben pulled off the internet but you can hear what I'm talking about in the mix below at 16 minutes. Damn its addictive. I'll tell you [...]

Remember Wankelmut from his head turning "One Day" remix ? Well the German newbie is back with an original track that simmers and funks in all the right ways. If you got into the full version of his "One Day" remix you'll know that he likes to tease before he delivers. Things don't fully kick off for a few minutes but buy then the mood is set so right you are ready. Think of it as candles and soft music on a date. By the time Emma Louise's voice comes across the table I'm ready to skip [...]

Svalbard From: Bristol, UK Lazy equation: (Rinoa + Modern Life Is War) x the inevitability of environmental collapse. URLs: Facebook // Twitter // Soundcloud // Bandcamp Thrash Hits verdict: We love a bit of progressive UK hardcore, so the thoughtful but forceful racket knocked up by Bristol's Svalbard was just the ticket for our Future Hits column. Lead guitarist/vocalist Serena Cherry answered most of our questions, but left it to [...]

Recently releasing their debut record Scorpio Leisure, Edinburgh's The Stagger Rats deliver high-energy, melodic, and lyrically clever music. The band's answers were quite humorous and show off their cheeky personalities. Have a read as we spoke to the band about falling off stage, being in an elevator with Ron Jeremy, and a film titled Jangle Your Extremities ! AMBY: How would you describe The Stagger Rats' sound to those unfamiliar with your music? The Stagger Rats: Our sound has recently undergone a fairly serious change. I'd call [...]
Hello readers of AMBY. My name is Steven and I play the drums, loop noises and (sort of) sing in the band Hands Out. My two good friends, Adam and Stephen, help me make a racket by forcing lovely sounding guitars through disgusting sounding pedals. We will be playing our first gigs this month (May 2013) to a bunch of sweaty people from the towns we grew up in. Here's a quick history of the band, I shall try to keep things brief. Adam and I have played in bands together since we were about 15, that's half [...]

On their Facebook, London's Lovelife describe themselves as a "pop band". But after meeting the band and watching them play live, it's safe to say that Lovelife are a passionate and infectious pop band. The last time AMBY spoke with Lovelife was back in October. The band were set to release their very first EP El Regreso , and now they are soon releasing their third EP Stateless . It's kind of crazy how fast time flies! Back in October, I mentioned to Lovelife's Lee Newell how we really hope they play a gig in Toronto [...]

Photo by Chris Clough Photography Hey, we're 'HeavyHeads' from Hood Town (Nottingham, UK). We just love playing music and experiencing things that help us write it really... Me and Joe have been best friends for the last 5 or 6 years, and he's like a brother to me. We recently went busking our way around Europe which was incredible. We got to experience so much and met so many cool people along the way whilst living free on the road. Our travels helped influence some of our tracks such as "Thrones" and "Lights", and [...]

Hello! We're Light Parades, a four piece indie/alternative band from London, UK. We have Daniel Hopkinson - vocals/piano/guitar: Jakub Tucholski - piano/guitar: Stephen Hopkinson - bass/vocals: Ollie Pearce - drums, vocals. We've been together for around 18 months now and recently released our debut album 'Through All Times'. 2013 is looking like a busy year for us, we'll be touring a lot, releasing an EP and a live acoustic session, and starting work on our second record. Enjoy the music and make sure to keep up to date on what we're doing over at our sites. Love x [...]

Vonelle is a Toronto-based, indie rock band who released a self-titled EP last spring. The five song long EP pairs experimental song structures with Julia Crawford’s ethereal voice, creating a whole lot of wonder in just under twenty minutes. The opening track (“Over&Over”) starts with a catchy beat and a poetic first line, “Pretty once parading all over your bed.” Crawford continues to deliver vivid lines about dreams with a “ruby red gleam,” while also subtly balancing the surreal with the real through rhyme—like, “radios trying to pretend” with “be your own best friend.” The EP [...]

Village Green are a 5 piece rock n roll band hailing from Middlesbrough in the North East of England, their blistering live shows and memorable melodies have already seen them slot themselves firmly in as one of the best live bands of the region, writing songs that not only are catchy, but writing songs that make you feel something, that make you want to make music yourself, songs that make you want to put your arm around your best friend and have the time of your life. In the end this is a band you simply must see, and here [...]
We’re an Ottawa based quartet and we play music we like to call ‘pelvic rock’. It’s rock that makes you want to thrust your pelvis. Silvergun & Spleen is a band of 4 best friends, passionate about life, making music and having fun. That’s what this band is about. We hope to transmit that to as many people as possible. Our first LP, ‘Semi Truck’, was released in September of 2012 and we plan to tour it a whole bunch this year. We love to keep busy on Facebook and twitter and we’re always posting new [...]

Photo by Daniel Robson Oioi, lads n lasses, please let us introduce ourselves, we're Kobadelta... We've been gigging round Newcastle for a couple of years but it's been a decent last 6 months for us, getting a few plays on BBC Radio Newcastle, supporting up and coming psychedelic dudes Temples and generally refining our heavy blues brand of so-called "indie-psych-rock" with an added pinch of synths starting to be thrown into the mix. Check out our new single "When It Rains It Pours" for a taster... Hopefully the [...]

I’ve always wondered why so many people turn up to a gig an hour or two after the venue opens its doors; if I took this approach, I’d have never heard some of my favorite bands. For example, the first time I heard Cork-based The Altered Hours was downstairs in the Roisín Dubh, where they were playing a support slot for O Emperor. I didn’t know any of the bands playing that night, but I left feeling quite satisfied with the night’s outcome. However, had I arrived an hour or two later, just before the headlining act took to the [...]
