Today is the last of the warm days at least through the weekend. The weatherman called the weekend temperature an Arctic blast, but right now the temperatures are predicted to be in the low 202s with some rain turning to snow and accumulating as many as 3 inches. Most musicians dream to to be recognized and praised by their own musical heros, and that very admiration often triggered their ill advised decision to try the rockstar route. This dream suddenly came true for Brooklyn and CT based The Stepkids when, on January 28, none other than Radiohead's Thom Yorke posted this blog on the band's site. Wow. Onslo's Quartumdimensio ᴁdificium is a barrage of noise—but what fantastic noise it is! It's as though Karl Alverez and Bill Stevenson, the rhythm section of the Descendents and ALL, joined Weezer and started covering Frank Zappa tunes. This record is fast and hard with angular edges and bombastic choruses. Its 7 tracks clock in at well under 15 minutes so the only drawback is that it's over so damn quick. Tiny Pupils is an indie rock/pop musical project formed around songs written and produced by Kevin Gallagher, with the support of close friends. Self described as a project "typified by verses, choruses, introspective lyrics, infectious melodies, trite rhymes, and DIY/home production", Tiny Pupils' primary influences include groups like Pavement, Yo La Tengo, or Bright Eyes. The project is now based in Amherst, Massachusetts, formerly Boston. About 8 or 9 inches of snow fell yesterday. The stuff is pretty, no question about it, but pretty never lasts long enough. Amory Sivertson's latest release, Human , is a wonderful mix of pop melodies, soothing piano lines and beautiful vocals. Sivertson, an Emerson-college student, is signed to the student-run Emerson record label, Wax on Felt Records .
