You people need to really turn your ears towards Velcro . I've raved about the Australian group for some time on these pages, but with the new Budding Teens EP set to be released via Terroir Editions , things are definitely shaping up to be huge. There's a casual wayward twanging guitar, and the vocals have this relaxed vibe to them. But, like all things Velcro , it sticks in your head so quickly, and then its gone, forcing you to play the track over [...]

The time is nigh for the second release from Austin Town Hall Records ; I'm thrilled to officially announce that we'll be releasing the debut album from Austin's Grape St., A Date With You . We'll be doing a limited run, which will be released on March 12th, and I assure you, you're going to want to get your hands on this, as their likely to go quick. For those of you not in the know, Grape St . features members of [...]

This new jam from Austin's The Black Angels has been floating around just a little bit, but we're just now getting a chance to post the tune for you. Interestingly, there's a slight change in the sound, almost having a more direct approach to the dark-tinged rock element, as opposed to their hazier past. Clearly the band has something going, and I can only wish that rock n' roll like this could break through to the masses. On April 2nd the group will release their new record, Indigo Meadow [...]

It's been a big year on ATH for Doylestown, PA groove rock group Night Panther . We've posted jammin' tracks "Snudge" along with fellow groove friendly tune "Fever". Well today the band is breaking in the new year with their first new tune of 2013 with yet another incredible track called "Fire". This one starts a little slow at the beginning with a nice little vocal heavy intro that eventually builds into a head nodding and foot stomping dancey jam. It has a real nice groove to it don't ya think? The band is still hard [...]

Grunge OGs, Mudhoney have never gone away. They've been slinging sludge for Sub Pop Records since the very beginning of grunge. And if one were to ask, let's say, Thurston Moore, or Yo La Tengo, perhaps that's why they don't get the same adulation as the '90s bands who left the spotlight for a decade or more only to return for a reunion tour. "The Only Son of the Widow of Nain," is not going to result in a new era of Mudhoney appreciation. Not that Mark Arm and Mudhoney even dream of such a thing. Remember, this [...]
We're just about a month away from the release of Free Energy's new full-length, Love Sign, and all signs point to it's gonna rule. The Philly pop / rock band is self-releasing its sophomore album on January 15, and we've already heard "Hangin'," "Electric Fever" and "Dance All Night." Today it's another new track - ... It seems that we're in for a whole lot of infectious pop if things continue to go as planned for Cayucas . They are releasing their debut 73 for Secretly Canadian this month, and this tune is another that wears a bright sunny influence. It's almost got a tropicalia feel to it, which definitely is something that I enjoy. If you listen closely you can hear the warm backing vocals just barely pushing through, creating an effect that only strengthens the relaxed feel of this song. I'll have no problem playing [...]

Okay, so this isn't exactly a new jam; it's from the Plateaus self-titled album that I raved about just a bit ago. But, they put this song out on the net yesterday, and it's one of my favorite tunes from the record, so I had to have it up here on the net for you. While some of their songs are faster and grittier, this one's got a bit of pop polish, which is where I first found my love for the band. There's tons of punk rock [...]

If things go as planned, then this should be a good year for Maus Haus . The group just released their well-balanced Light Noise EP , and it's a listen that makes its way into your playing rotation pretty quickly. There's a play between light and dark throughout the entire listen, operating within a spectrum of psychedelia and more creative pop influences. This sprawling track displays the group walking that fine line, even tossing in a bit of their Kraut-rock influences to boot. If you spend some time with this [...]
I have no idea how this new jam from Guards slipped under my radar last week, as I've long adored this band something fierce. The band's released a a couple of EPs, but they're prepping for the release of their debut, In Guards We Trust , which comes out February 5th of next year. Listening to the first single, it's precisely what I wanted the band to do. They highlight their exuberance with bright hooks and swirling melodies that emotionally encourage you to soar. Be prepared to hear more [...]
Putting Paul Westerberg behind a piano is often a recipe for some of his most moving work - and he's deft at mixing humor with his pathos. Early in his career - with piano-driven songs like "Androgynous" - the laughs were a way to disguise the more emotional insight. "Androgynous," despite its jokey lines, is [...]

Here's some tasty new gems from UK based outfit The Switch . The tunes in the soundcloud player below are catchy Brit-pop numbers "Heard it All Before" and "Dont Worry Baby". You'll hear a familiar breezy pop style in both songs similar to Texas boys Young Girls mixed with a little bit of Two Wounded Birds. It's really excellent work however you want to label it really. Both songs will be coming your way via 73 single this November on It's All Happening Records .
There is virtue in keeping things short and to the point. Has anyone ever heard the story of prog rock? For the Canadian duo, Indian Handcrafts, however, two minutes is not nearly enough. On "Terminal Horse," the first single from their forthcoming release on Sargent House (10/30) , they tease with such a forceful mix of heavy blues and thrash metal, that by the time you get a good headbang going, it's already over. Sure, you can press play again, but really, the answer is more. As in, more thrash, more riffs, more jams (that are more than two [...]

I've heard a few rumors about this band, and since they're from San Francisco, I figured I could trust the sources. While it's not entirely like the usual fare coming from the city, I'm really digging what I'm hearing from New Faultlines . You'll hear a nice little jangling guitar being strummed throughout, which goes along with the feel of the vocals; yes, I know they sound a bit unhinged. It gives me that fuzzy feeling the first time I heard Twerps , so hopefully that's gotta be worth something in your book. As [...]

I feel like I took it easy on the world, posting some chilled out tracks yesterday. I aim to change that this morning, giving you all a bit of rock n' roll. Fortunately, I came across this sludgy gem from FIDLAR on NME (I know, I still read it), which really has little information to go with it. Unlike some of their early tracks, the vocals are sort of screamed here, while the guitars sound fuzzy and dirty. Like I said, no word on whether this tune will feature on the band's upcoming full [...]

It's always great when you realize one of your favorite local acts is putting out new music. Sleep Good has been quite, at least with recorded tunes, since 2010, but I just figured out that they've recently dropped their new Monsanto 73 . It's definitely a gem, and I'm loving the A-Side "Summer Explosion." You'll hear some soaring vocals fitting to an Austin summer, and my personal favorite is the way the guitar sounds here, with just hints of hip movement. I'm glad to see these guys are back, [...]

There was a time when I would have answered the questions "Who is the best rock band in Cleveland?" and "Who is the most unappreciated band in Cleveland?" with the same name, Coffinberry. For while their loud, powerful, and rugged sound, equally steeped in grunge and alt-country, was a near perfect reflection of the tough attitude of our tough town, they never really had the crowd they deserved. Then, of course, there was their farewell show at Pat's in the Flats that overflowed the club and blocked truck traffic from the nearby industrial sites and one could no [...]
We were fortunate enough to have Seapony play at our SXSW party this year, so we're happy to hear that the band are already about to return with a new record, titled Falling (odd title considering the release date is September 11th). It will, again, be released by the hard-working folks over at Hardly Art , and I'm really loving this new track. Jen's voice sounds really good, but there's a directness to this track that is quite striking; there's less of a [...]

When we caught PUJOL at SXSW this year I was surprisingly energetically his set came off; he was more punk rock than garage pop. But, as the date draws near for the release of his United States of Being , which hits on June 5th via Saddle Creek , it seems that he's going to show a bit more restraint on his recorded material. There's a gruffness to his vocal performance, but he's not banging out the song like when we caught his live [...]

Ben Cook and Mark Fosco have had a solid year in the music work, with their sweet jams being given out to via their respective bands, Fucked Up and Marvelous Darlings . The group, now dubbed Roommates initially set out to record some songs for fun, with the idea of limited releases, but I'm glad some of these tracks are making their way out. On March 20th Slumberland Records will be releasing a 73 comprised of two of these tracks, and we've got the A-Side to run for you [...]
