Mario - Instagram It's been a minute, but Mario is back with a brand new single. The R&B crooner taps Nicki Minaj for his latest, "Somebody Else." Not a bad way to make a comeback. Over a Polow Da Don -produced beat, Mario is a jilted lover who has to accept the fact that his love left him for somebody else. Nicki storms the track with her verse, playing the girl who got away. "Looking at my new man/Wish it was you/But you dead now/Sign [...]

The stars in the celestial sphere have aligned if only for a moment to form an indie dream trio, with the Sisters Crutchfield (of Swearin' and Waxahatchee ) covering the preeminent future-pop queen Grimes . Their version of "Oblivion" uses garage rock silly putty to pull the tune right off Grimes' funny pages, and while it's a little more rough-edged than Claire Boucher's original, it picks up all of the specifics that made the original one of our favorites of 2012. Two months back, we got out first taste of " Varsity ", the lead single from Smith Westerns ' upcoming third LP Soft Will . And now, nearly a month before the album's scheduled release date, the Chicago band released the tempered "3 a.m. Spiritual". It's as close to what may have been referred to as a ballad, had this band been around in the '60s, with the echo-chamber guitars sweetly falling into a make-or-break finale. Check out the new track below. Soft Will is set for release June 25 through Mom+Pop Records [...]

When Joe Goddard isn't making music with Hot Chip or on DFA Records with Two Bears , he's putting out solo material much in the same vein - disco-dance parties with large portions of eclecticism and quirk. His latest single "She Burns" rolls out over eight minutes of semi-personal, semi-pop house grooves, guided by a warm vocal performance by UK singer/songwriter Marla Carlyle. Stream the track below (via Pitchfork ). "She Burns" will be out on a new Goddard EP, Taking Over, which will be out sometime later this [...]

Last March, Stones Throw fellow CX Kidtronik debuted his magnetic and cutthroat " Locked In ". The furiously cerebral track brought in likable comparisons to Death Grips , but that's mostly based on the tantric energy on display. Two months later and we finally get the second taste of his upcoming Krak Attack 2: The Battle Of Eli Skiff LP, with "Lady Krak P.S.A". This time around, Kidtronik stays off the verses, with Lady Miss Kier and Digable Planets' member Ladybug Mecca contributing. [...]

Kentucky grunge-punk outfit Cage the Elephant is something of a family affair, with brothers Matt and Brad Shultz handling lead vocals and rhythm guitar, respectively. For his latest project, Brad Shultz continues to keep it right in the family, enlisting his cousin and budding vocalist Kane Stewart for a group called Plastic Visions . The story goes that Stewart had been reluctantly running his family business, the California surf megastore Stewart Surfboards. Looking to escape his tedious day job, Stewart abruptly moved to Nashville, where the duo recently spent a month in the studio combining [...]

Following up their 2012 self-titled debut, Danielle Hindman and Sarah Versprille (of Vetiver ), released the gloriously polished and atomically sweet "Pendulum" from Pure Bathing Culture's upcoming Moon Tides . The fantastic single will be the lead track on the new LP, which is slated for release August 19 in the UK and August 20 through the Brooklyn-based Partisan Records . Stream/download the single below.
Diaper Money is taken from The Lonely Island 's third LP, The Wack Album - out 11th June.
Just in time for Memorial Day Weekend, all those graduation parties and the down time somewhere on the distant horizon the next three months: the new video for Handshakes' single "Vacation." The L.A. outfit's sprightly power-pop song — think the Weezer or the Rentals with horns — is a giddy excursion that suggests everything you see in director Tristan Nyby's video for the song, which appeared on Handshakes' "Villains & Crooks" EP released last December. Fire up the barbecues, please. "Vacation" can't come soon enough. ||| Previously: "Vacation," [...]

On an ethereal wisp sails the music of Cloud Boat , an elvish tribe hailing from the British Isles, whose sound is reminiscent of a cross between Bon Iver and James Blake. In anticipation of their album, Book of Hours , the band has unleashed the double-sided single: "Youthern/Hammerspace". Listen to the electro-soul reworking of the side-A track, "Youthern" by the London producer, Flako and watch Cloud Boat's second live session at Trinity Church with a profoundly heart-felt performance of "Kowloon Bridge" below. Look out for Book of Hours , Cloud Boat's first full-length album, out on May [...]

Photo by Merri Cyr Erin McKeown is a wonderfully talented singer-songwriter. To The Stars has always been a personal favourite of mine and I have looked forward to keeping up with each release she puts out. Erin's latest album, MANIFESTRA is her seventh release and simply lovely. Proof is an example of a tender track where Erin draws you in with her heartfelt vocals and compelling lyrics. In this interview, Erin talks with us about having her own label, really liking meat, and dream gigs. AMBY: [...]

As part of their first national headline run, The Neighbourhood is releasing three limited split 7″ singles that will feature new songs from their and their supporting acts, Lovelife , The 1975 , and JMSN that will only be available at the shows. Have I told you lately that I Love You? In the first release, The Neighbourhood digs back to the band's hip-hop roots (and also Jesse Rutherford's rapping roots that was pre-The Neighbourhood). So smooth, so addicting. Something about Jesse's voice is so endearingly vulnerable and raw. It's [...]

With the weather warming up and summer just around the corner, could you think of a better way to get ready for such a great time than with a band named Is Tropical ? Yeah sure you can work out, eat healthy and save a bunch of money so you can actually go some place tropical and live it up all summer, but who has the time to do all that. It would be way more fun to just sit back, put on some headphones and kick back to this new album entitled I'm Leaving [...]

Creedence Clearwater Revival frontman John Fogerty' s guest-heavy ninth studio album, Wrote a Song for Everyone , hits stores on May 28th via Vanguard Records. In anticipation, Rolling Stone premiered his electrified rendition of "Fortunate Son" that he put together with Sound City pals the Foo Fighters . Granted, they played it live on-stage every night at this past Spring's Sound City Players gigs, but it's nice to hear the studio version finally. Regardless of the rock, I'm still a sucker for the original, but it ain't me, it ain't me...yeah, you [...]

Usher is the latest member of the musical elite to jump on a remix of Rocko's "U.O.E.N.O." Hear him go all R. Kelly with two verses of sweet sing-talk in which he swoons the ladies, attacks the haters, and logs onto Travelocity for cheap hotel rates in Dubai. You gotta love him. "It's easier to think you're no fun," Cullen Omori pines in "3am Spiritual", the latest offering from Smith Westerns' forthcoming third studio album, Soft Will . It's melancholy in areas, but mostly a feel good jam that evolves as it ages, sounding like a latter-era Beatles track: think "A Day in the Life" or "Something". Stream below. Soft Will is due out June 25th via Mom + Pop. The Chicago outfit will support the album with a North American tour this summer, the complete [...]

Frank Pescod knows a thing or two about using music to evoke an emotional response. His commercial music production company, Solebay Music , carries the slogan "affecting choices through sound." Under his handle To Be Frank , the producer/singer/multi-instrume ntalist is not directly trying to change your shopping habits. But with the July 15th release of his debut EP, Nothing , Pescod will be aiming to affect you right at the core. Take the latest single from the EP, "I Lied". Co-written by and featuring British songstress Hazel Tratt, Frank says the track "offers two [...]

Like Sir Mix-A-Lot, Swizzymack has released a track that gives more air to a woman's derriere, in case the above artwork didn't make that clear enough.
