New Order were great in their day. Late-era New Order however left a little bit to be desired. The one shining exception was "Regret". Fast forward to the present and we have Ottawa space-folk outfit Orienteers laying down their cover of that classic tune. Check it out:

Words: Saam Das Last month's MOJO magazine came with a free New Order tribute CD comprising of covers from the likes of Destroyer , Errors and Walls . Alas, I missed out but I did have the pleasure of listening to a rather splendid cover of 'Lonesome Tonight' by FG faves Anothers Blood . Listen to the ethereal, wide-eyed journey through the clouds below. If you're wondering why [...]

It's been quite a while since I've delved in the world of album covers in my ongoing album art lover series, but I was inspired by Sharon Van Etten's sleeve for her brilliant new album, Tramp (which is streaming on NPR today by the way) to explore the ever-popular face cover. They say that 93% of communication is non-verbal, which perhaps explains why the face-cover has endured for so long. You can usually get a good idea of the album you're about to hear by the expression and composition of the [...]

Factory Record's oft overlooked Benelux division wasn't so much a distribution channel as a label in it's own right often releasing tracks that Factory itself weren't privy to. These were mostly from lesser known bands, such as The Names, but New Order were also in on the act releasing this wonderful, extended version of 'Everything's Gone Green' through Benelux alone. New Order - Everything's Gone Green (Factory Benelux Version)

There was a time when if I was still up at half six in the morning on a Saturday it would be because I was still up from the night before. Nowadays though, you're more likely to find me battling with my daughter as I try to get her to her breakfast, followed by several hours of CBeebies. It might not be very rock n roll and yes it is pretty tiring, but hey unless you've been up at that time you'll never know quite how funny it is to hear cartoon trains talking about have a 'chug wash'. As [...]
Filed under: News , Exclusive , The Hit List Getty Images (2) If it seems like the hip new bands of 2012 remind you of something you've heard before, one, you're old, but two, you're right. The adage "everything old is new again" is particularly applicable to modern music and there are a lot of acts who feel mighty familiar right now. Sensing a time-based forensic piece, we jumped in the Official Spinner [...]
RE: Dan Bejar. The latest Mojo compilation to hit newsstands is a disc comprised of reinterpretations of New Order's second LP, 19832s Power, Corruption & Lies. The covers range from the fairly catholic to wholly re-imagined versions, with the key takeaway being Destroyer's take on the original album's eighth and final track, "Leave Me Alone." [...]

Stream five new New Order covers by Fujiya & Miyagi, the Golden Filter, Errors, S.C.U.M., and Zombie Zombie.
New Order 's '5 8 6 ', form 1983, was a prime example of the bands early experiments with synths being at the forefront of their music. Having just discovered Disco many of the tracks on the 'Power, Corruption & Lies' album have a dance groove, but not all of them would stand up on todays dancefloors, including '5 8 6'… Mirror People thought he'd see to that. Mirror People's edit of '5 8 6' gives the track a new burst of raw energy. Emphasising the kick and some of the synths, and adding a few stabs [...]

Destroyer – "Leave Me Alone (New Order cover) Mojo Magazine is releasing a special album with this month's issue, a covers compilation of New Order's classic Power, Corruption and Lies which features contributions from The Golden Filter, Walls, Fujiya and Miyagi, Biosphere and more (quite the diverse bunch!). But my favorite of this collection—which also includes covers of the B-sides accompanying the album—is Destroyer's tight and propulsive take on "Leave Me Alone". It's an appropriate move for Dan Bejar and co., considering the cornucopia [...]

Today I've got men on my mind. Now get yours out of the gutter. All of them are fully clothed -- and singing. Nearly three months ago, I wrote a post titled "Five Great Songs By Five Great Female Singers That Should Have Gone to No. 1," and doesn't it figure? Musically speaking, I'm always dwelling on the creative and performing virtues of the fairer sex. I guess I'm gay like that. There must be some microchip hidden in the brains of gay men that makes us respond more readily to women -- female pop stars, actresses, style [...]
