NOAH AND THE WHALE definitely wanted to make the release of their fourth longplayer Heart Of Nowhere special. They filmed a short movie, hid six cassette copies of the album in six UK record which had to be found by the fans to unlock an album stream and since the last Sunday in April they’ve The post Noah And The Whale - Heart Of Nowhere appeared first on Nothing But Hope And Passion - NBHAP - Music Magazine & more .
VAMPIRE WEEKEND took their time to record their third album Modern Vampires of The City, the end of a trilogy. Three years have passed by since the release of their second album Contra. It’s not condemnable to take the time you need, but in this case it was probably too long. Listening to the new mix from Beats Antique is like basking in the garden of earthly delights. It was such an unexpected pleasure to have a Beats mix open with . . . wait for it . . . vocals (“Crooked Muse”). Not just a sample either. Real vocals. Music Player: [...]

Love in Stockholm's New EP 'Hold Back the Sun' Reminds us that the wicked ones are always prettier. Love in Stockholm might just be one of the best bands you’ve never heard of. Their 2010 album, A King’s Ransom , quickly became one of my favorites, as did their 2009 EP, Too Much Love . Their new disc, Hold Back the Sun keeps up the frenetic pace of those previous two [...]

Surfing is the shoegazey, fuzzed-out Harrisonburg, VA quartet of Jordan Stern, Chris Burden, Brodie Adams, Fernando Perez that’s kicking the genre up a notch. “Hollow Sparrow” is the first single from this up coming band’s debut EP (as yet to be named) due out this summer on vinyl. This cut was one of five tracks recorded at The Sound Studios in Charlottesville, VA back in February. The track is pretty great. It’s a combination of Dum Dum Girls, and Phantogram that’s hard to ignore, but not hard on the ears. [...]
Bosstone’s “Static” is part of upcoming the Soulection Time In Between Compilation. It’s an interesting piece, that frankly, I was unimpressed with on the first few listens. Music Player: Static [...]
One of my personal faves, Emika, just dropped her much anticipated second single, “Searching,” from upcoming album, DVA . “Searching” is the follow-up to her sultry, sexy, and dark rebuild of Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Game,” which was a brilliant choice for an Emika remix. “Searching” follows that track up with her trademark mix of gorgeous wanting, desirous vocals, and a sort of dark synth pop that she works to an unmatched degree. read more
Folk trio, Kindlewood, just released the Cory Pampalone directed video for their glorious track, "Give & Take,” from their upcoming album. Music Player: 7395-give_take.mp3 [...]
What the hell does a seven year old boy in a pretty pink princess dress have to do with this song? I don’t know either, but it’s damn funny! Kingsley Flood’s gorgeous melodies, heavy beats, and violin punctuated track, “Sun Gonna Lemme Shine,” is set as the backdrop for this fun, energetic vid. Kingsley Flood was a new band for me, and reminds me of Deer Tick, Crash Kings, Okkervil River, and a hint of Arctic Monkeys, – not bad company to keep. read more

Often times bands will release a single from their upcoming album that gets everyone excited, but when we finally get the full length the rest of the album leaves us disappointed. Dirty Fences is certainly not one of those bands. [...]
Remember these guys? Jimmy Eat World, most famous for their 2001 hit, “The Middle,” and 2004’s “Pain,” are about to release their seventh studio album, Damage , on June 11th. Damage , is the band’s first disc since 2010's critically-acclaimed Invented , and will be their first release on new label, RCA Records. Jimmy Eat World have unveiled "I Will Steal You Back," the first single from the new album. It’s a decent track - a solid 90’s/early 20’s indie/punk tinged rocker that’s sure to get some radio pickup. The single will be released digitally [...]

When Swedish electronica duo THE KNIFE announced its comeback earlier this year the buzz and aticipation this announcement created was pretty overhelming. Probably only DAVID BOWIE's comeback album played in the same hype league. This is one of those projects that I really want to like. C'mon with a name like "The Casket Girls," I was hooked. The Casket Girls are a new Savannah, GA trio featuring sisters, Elsa and Phaedra Greene (vocals), and Ryan Graveface who wrote and played all the music. This track, “Heartless,” can be found on their debut album, Sleepwalking, which came out in November and was pretty well received by the critics for its darkly poppy material. Music Player: [...]

I have a serious hard-on for these guys! The Carshalton, UK rock/psych/blues duo of John Hogg & Charlie Morton really tear it up in the same way The Kills, White Stripes, early, less produced Black Keys, or The Dead Weather (I know, they’re not a duo) do. Music Player: [...]

Jeff Crosby and The Refugees' latest EP, Silent Conversations, evokes the best of Townes Van Zandt, and mixes up the Gin Blossoms, Ray LaMontagne, Dylan-esque harmonica lines, Ryan Adams, and The Band. LA’s Jeff Crosby is a 26 year old songwriter/singer, and multi-instrumentalist transplanted from Idaho. Although you’d never know it from his playing, Crosby wasn’t born a guitar in his hands. When Jeff first picked up a guitar at the age of 14, he [...]
