Earlier today Josh Ritter announced via his website the upcoming European release of the limited edition Josh Ritter & The Royal City Band: Live at the Iveagh Gardens 2 CD & DVD set. The Iveagh Gardens show took place last July 18th in Dublin, Ireland and was the first ever rock show to be played at the venue. Dinosaur Jr.'s J Mascis has a new solo album coming out March 15th via Sub Pop, and he has just made a second track, "Is It Done" available for free download. The new album, Several Shades of Why, the first solo effort for Mascis, was recorded at Amherst Massachusetts' Bisquiteen Studios and is nearly all acoustic. On April 5th experimental electronic pop group Cold Cave will be releasing its second album, Cherish the Light Years via Matador Records. The album was recorded in New York City and is said to be "a tour de force of pounding synths and soaring romantic melody." The Dodos' fourth album, No Color will be released on March 15th via Frenchkiss, and the band premiered the album's lead track, "Black Night" recently on Pitchfork. The new album was produced by Jon Askew, who also produced their first two albums, Beware of the Maniacs and Visiter and features singer Neko Case's contributing vocals on about half the album. Nashville's Those Darlins are getting ready to release their sophomore album, Screws Get Loose, in March and have just released the first single off the album, "Be Your Bro." The songs on the new album are said to show that life on the road is no place for the faint of heart. The album's press release states that each song on the album "bears the scars of the highs and lows they've soldiered through together on the road, accentuating the realities of growing up in a rock and roll band."
We have some very exciting news for Josh Ritter fans. We received an email yesterday from the Ritter camp announcing the reissue of his amazing album, The Animal Years, which is said to be drastically improved and available in deluxe and vinyl editions. The new version includes a bonus disc of Josh performing the entire album solo acoustic, four studio b-sides, and two videos. Last week The Kills announced the upcoming release of their fourth studio album, Blood Pressures. The album, which is the follow up to their breakout 2008 album, Midnight Boom, is set to be released on April 5th via Domino Records. Fleet Foxes has announced the release of their next album, Helplessness Blues, which is the the much anticipated follow up to their 2008 self-titled debut. Helplessness Blues is due out May 3, 2011 via Sub Pop. The 12-track album was recorded over the course of a year at Avast Recording, Bear Creek Studios, Dreamland Studios, and Reciprocal Recording. The album was mixed by Phil Ek and co-produced by Fleet Foxes and Ek. The piece that appears on the album cover was illustrated by Seattle artist Toby Liebowitz and painted by Chris Alderson. In September 2010 Orenda Fink and Maria Taylor released a new album as Azure Ray, Drawing Down the Moon. The album was the duo's fourth full length album but first as Azure Ray since 2004. The duo is now back with a new single, "Silverlake", which is a non-album track from the Drawing Down the Moon sessions, and features Sparklehorse.
