I'm a sucker for heavily layered and melodic new-wave, especially when it sounds like Duran...
Finding Reasons by New Build Here's the first track to drop from the forthcoming New Build album, Yesterday Was Lived and Lost . The group comes straight out of the UK, and the album the song comes from should be out in March. They've also got strong connections to groups like Hot Chip and LCD Soundsystem. A lot like that Rhye track I just blogged today, this rhythm and synths on this one call out to the 80s, but nostalgia isn't where this song ultimately gets its power. The quirky, syncopated [...]
Continua a leggere Gary Numan [...]
Spree's putting together a hell of a music catalogue here - and "Sharp Shooter" keeps the trend going. If there's anything I can say about this guy, it's that he has a knack for stringing together captivating melodies. Take a look at "Transition", "Eye Know" and "King Shit", and you'll be a legitimate fan within 15 minutes. Big things on the horizon - I'm looking forward to what's coming his way. French/ English indie five-piece The Lanskies dub their sound-a mixture of Brit-Pop, post-punk and new wave influences-"Hot Wave", and while we can't help but find their enthusiasm in branding their music with this made-up genre tag questionable, there is no question in how much we're digging their new single "Romeo". The first taste, and title track, of their North American debut EP , "Romeo" serves a jubilant blast of early-MTV-era jangle with Liverpool-born frontman Lewis Evans yelping his heart out, urging for a halt to "all the violence and fighting" and throwing shade to [...]

Got sent this great new Maxi Single/EP All in Vain by Michael Senna & Peter Zohdy who are from Coppenhagen, Denmark . Fun dancey track with an 80's new wave vibe to it that is totally my cup of tea. They also have a bit more housey remix by Blond:ish, plus a digital only track "Dirty Talk" . Good stuff, check them out below. If you like what you hear you can buy them on beatport [...]

For all those to have been reared predominantly on secondhand smoke on the booze-splatted viscosity underfoot on the carpets and plastics of Brixton's Academy, La Femme's debut London show at The Garage on this significantly more salubrious corner of Highbury is for we. And for seemingly every Frenchman and woman currently shacked up in the capital. For the Le Pré-Saint-Gervais retrospection-revelling outfit hark back to glorified ages and eras past, delving into a history of all things Gallic, groove-laden, and New Wave as the sextet surf triumphantly towards the brightest of horizontal futures. Needless to say horizontal is [...]
This DVD takes viewers on a tour through the career of the innovative Talking Heads.

I imagine Oliver Akermann singer of "A Place To Bury Strangers" loves heat. Akermann dreams of jumping on to oiled skillets, into brimming woks, and live brick ovens. This desire seems to have decreased though as it has become more commonplace for him. One day, he left the safety of these things. Out in the desert searching for coins, he stumbled upon a cave of thick viscous oil. He grew flush with new ideas! The places he would go with this malevolent adonis! Then set out on a journey to blast apart his own limbs with this flammable liquid blanket. [...]

Here we have the official video for Miike Snow's infectious "Paddling Out", off their upcoming album - and it's weird as HELL. It begins with an empty whiskey bottle on the ground, labeled "Banana Juice" - and continues to follow some overweight version of William H. Macy as he gets grotesquely operated on by a crew of horrifying Quaker-like young girls. Dancing is involved. So yeah, that is all. Check it out. Tweet
Upon first hearing Foxes' "Youth", I would've never seen it getting this much remix attention. Don't get me wrong, the original is a great song - but it wasn't screaming REMIX ME like some other songs do. Handfuls of producers out there beg to differ. Adventure Club is the latest to take it on - and this one might be a clear favorite for me. Crisp production, not too much over-the-top womp - a thing of beauty. Check it out below. The french duo Equatuer (Romain Nouhi & Charles Rocher) have produced a wonderful New Wave track called, "Haunted". From the initial second this track started to play, my ears instantly started smiling - well, you know what I mean. Equatuer - Haunted

Whoa - not quite sure how this one slipped under the radar. Emeli Sandé is this smooth Scottish R&B singer who's just pulled the rug out from under me. As far as comparisons go, I'm coming up empty. She's like this Janelle Monae/Beyoncé hybrid that's heavily influenced by the jazz/breakbeat scene. Anyone? Maybe? I don't care, this shit deserves to be recognized. Watch the official video for her debut single below. Tweet
Xaphoon Jones has jumped on the official remix train for St. Lucia's new single, and he's lathered the track up with his token glitchy, synthed-out vibe. "We Got It Wrong" has been given the remix treatment from Starsmith (Ellie Goulding's producer), Xaphoon Jones, and Lenno - all of which are available in one tightly-knit package on iTunes today thanks to Neon Gold. Glory. Oh, and if you don't have your tickets yet, be sure to catch St. Lucia live along with The Knocks, Savoir Adore and Magic Man in Boston on March 2nd. Don't say I didn't tell you. Tickets [...]
Whenever a hip-hop artist attempts to make a "rock" album, the shit sucks. That's a proven fact. We're lucky then that I can't really consider Kid Cudi to be a "rapper". He's always been too spacey and weird to be contained in a stereotypical genre like that. The uneducated say that his upcoming WZRD album is him attempting to go the rock route - but again, he's too bizarre to just attempt a rock album. I see it as him wanting to explore other sounds and mess with different kinds of productions from what he's grown accustomed to. With that [...]
A long-lost piece of French electro heat from '84, Philippe Laurent's 'Distorsion' was originally only ever released on an extremely rare cassette. Thanks to Veronica Vasicka's label Minimal Wave, it has seen the light on hot red vinyl for his LP 'Hot Bip'.
Pretty Lights had a huge year in 2011. That being said, it's clear he's decided to start 2012 off with a power move. In my mind, "We Must Go On" is arguably his best single since "Finally Moving". In fact, when you take a look at the vocal samples and general composition, it's abnormally similar to "Finally Moving". There's no real heavy "drop" per se, rather, it's a well-crafted instrumental that's perfect for getting shit done. You know how there's music out there that seems like it was composed simply so you could hone in and complete whatever task it [...]
