2010 is shaping up to be a joyous year, with big things planned from both The Joy Formidable and UK garage-dub DJ Joy Orbison , aka 22-year-old South Londoner Peter O'Grady. His first single, "Hyph Mngo" snuck onto several year-end lists (just missing out on mine ) with its mix of soulful grace and powerful beats. Mystery Jets, Marina & The Diamonds and The Soft Pack appear to be the biggest names, while Rough Trade soul hopeful Rox also features. I'm particularly pleased to see Aussie folk-pop chick Lisa Mitchell on the bill (Borderline, Weds 10 February). Popular Down Under, she's scarcely known here, despite a recent move to these shores .
