Nicolas Jaar 's collaborative 12" for Record Store Day sold insanely fast, and rightfully so. The release saw Jaar collaborating with Grizzly Bear and Brian Eno. But it's when you listen to Jaar's remix of Grizzly Bear 's "Sleeping Ute" that you fully understand. The remix is intricate, subtle in its execution and simply memserizing. As always, Jaar delivers.
I slipped up and didn't make it out to my local spot on Record Store Day, my loss considering all the fantastic stuff that landed on shelves Saturday. One of those was an absolutely stacked 123 between Grizzly Bear, Nicolas Jaar , and Brian Eno . Luckily for those that didn't snag a copy we can now stream Nicolas Jaar's remix of Grizzly Bear's "Sleeping Ute". Over the weekend, Nicolas Jaar released a collaborate 123 for Record Store Day that includes remixes of Grizzly Bear‘s “Sleeping Ute” and Brian Eno 's "Lux." While the album sold out, a stream of the Grizzly Bear remix made it's way online. Jaar extends "Sleeping Ute" into one of his elegantly hypnotic slow-building songs that is "guaranteed to move refined dancefloors everywhere." On paper, the idea of remixing a Grizzly Bear track sounds like a such a bad idea. But then when you learn that the guy doing the remix is Nicolas Jaar , it's a pretty set thing that whatever you're about to hear is probably going to be pretty fantastic. And no matter how big a Grizzly Bear fan you are, I promise you that this remix of Sleeping Ute is worth a listen. Stream below:

After releasing an album as profound as The Space Is Only Noise it would be difficult for some people to move forward immediately. This isn't the case for Nicolas Jaar. He's continued to churn out incredible remix after incredible track after incredible mix over the past year with no apparent intentions on stopping. On record, Nicolas Jaar, to put it frankly, strikes me as one of the most interesting figures in electronic music to emerge throughout the past few years. His blend of elements of spacious house music, vivid sample collages, and sultry atmosphere, topped off with his own baritone vocals, hit home with both the Space is Only Noise LP and the Don't Break My Love EP in 2011, and despite being relatively quiet throughout this year, he has continued his winning streak with the excellent " With Just One [...]
Taking to the Spanish soundwaves, Nicolas Jaar recently mixed up a killer hour-long set as part of Sonar Lab, Barcelona. It would be tough for me to identify some of the music in this mix-a testament to Jaar's otherworldly tastes and influences. The transitions are also quite magnificent in this performance, showcasing the artist's ability to string along a rather seamless set. I have yet to catch this guy live, but this gives me one hell of a reason to buy a ticket the next time around. Stream the performance below.
