The dynamic duo of Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk are going back to FX where they originated during the Nip/Tuck days. The Glee creators have a new show to celebrate, and from the looks of things, they've got another hit on their hands. American Horror Story is a supernatural thriller about a married couple trying to work things out after it's been discovered that the husband had been cheating on his wife. The [...]
Hey there! We're almost halfway through the week, so I hope you're not too worn out yet. Our Lost discussion is underway, so join in when you have a chance. (I really needed to sleep on that episode.) Let's get on with the headlines:
I'd almost forgotten that Nip/Tuck kicks off its final season tonight. That's pretty surprising, considering this series used to be such a must-see. Remember Ava? The Kimber doll? The Carver? Oh, those were the days ...

This second half of the season for Nip/Tuck is turning out to be a masochistic affair. Cutting off your breasts with a bread knife, now a promising surgeon destroys his dominant hand to get out from under his father's will. The series is running out of ways for people to destroy themselves, so we must be coming it's end. The prominent theme here was teacher and student, and the musical choice to repeatedly back the scenes was Mancini's "Dreamsville." Not only was it a love [...]
Luke from NPSH pointed out on the band's blog that Kanye West's track Flashing Lights is featured on the trailer for FX's Nip/Tuck . Does anyone else think this is in bad taste? MP3: Kanye West - Flashing Lights
After last year's mid-season finale for Nip/Tuck , one of the most common questions asked was " when is McNamara/Troy going to get some security? " As if to answer that chorus, this mid-season premiere goes back and replays the events of the night to try and explain how Colleen could have gotten to Sean, given that he's a famous TV star and she has a restraining order against her. Apparently, all you need to do is disguise yourself as a patient and no one will think twice. [...]
Nip/Tuck makes my favorite convoluted soap shows, like GG & DOOLs seem tame. When Justin A started working with us 2 1/2 years ago, he couldn't wait to host watch parties, then it got too weird for him. He might have given up on the show, but we kept watching. Is it bad that Nick Brown and I were talking about the show yesterday and I couldn't even remember that Matt has been sleeping with and possibly even has a bun in the oven with his half-sister? I kept confusing her for the little tramp that [...]
In year's past, a show's finale meant a spike in music downloads the next day, but this year was quite different thanks to several mitigating factors. The first was the writer's strike, which cut down the number of proper season finales in scripted television this year by nearly half. The second and third factors deal with money, with music licensing rates on the rise and the economy on a downturn, it's no wonder that series have tried to do "more with less," to quote The Wire . Just look at the top five I [...]

Somewhere towards the end of the third season of Nip/Tuck , the show seemed to go off the rails, careening into the absurd, and losing it's keen sense of humor. Last season it suffered much of the same, but towards the end, the show seemed to find it's heart (and humor). This season, the show got a much needed face lift, with a relocation to Beverly Hills (the heart of "tell me what you don't like about yourself,") and it's a welcome change of scenery from the suddenly crowded Miami ( [...]

Last night's finale of Nip/Tuck continued to look back to the first season, wrapping up several loose ends going back to their beginnings. The season said many goodbyes to past well-loved (and hated) characters, and the finale was no different as it added a couple more to the list: Escobar and the setting of Miami. Musically, the buzz is about their Magnolia moment, where near the end, all the main characters lip sync to the song "Brighter Discontent" by The Submarines , with the lyrics [...]

After a terrible episode a couple weeks ago ( see Future Shock ,) it's good to see Nip/Tuck back on it's mark last night, even if it did require channeling Bad Santa to undo the damage. Dr. McNamara, experiencing his first holidays post-family, turns to the bottle to ease his loneliness and despair, which leads to some of this season's funniest moments. First Sean messes up a G-spot enhancement, leaving the patient with spontaneous orgasms ("I can't even show my face in spin class again!") Then, desparate to [...]

Last year's series finale of Six Feet Under was memorable in part because of the montage featuring flashes of each character's future. One of the keys to the success of that montage was the quick cuts... you only got a glimpse as to how they looked and there was no time to examine the make-up too closely. Last night Nip/Tuck gave us long looks at their Back to the Future and while the make-up was nearly as funny as it was in that classic trilogy, [...]

Is Nip/Tuck going soft on us? Last night's episode represented a shift from the usual narcissistic mood and went instead for a startling sensitivity not seen in prior storylines. Quite naturally, the music followed (or lead?) heel-step bringing aboard legendary songwriter Burt Bacharach to guest in a fantasy sequence. Having Bacharach playing piano in the same room that a corpse (recurring character Mrs. Grubman) is getting her ass liposuctioned is either a brilliant juxtaposition, or a 'worst musical moment' candidate. It was that far in left field that I [...]

Rosie O'Donnell returned as Dawn Budge for last night's episode of Nip/Tuck , which is fitting given the recent news that she's signed on for a N/T spinoff . Before last night's episode, I was pessimistic about the idea, but seeing her more nuanced second performance made a believer out of me. Playlist: Nip/Tuck - Episode 4.07 ( Click for tracklisting ) O'Donnell's Dawn gets ear-jacked; that is, her ear is cut off (warning: suspend disbelief) in a motorcyle drive-by robbery [...]

Just when you think it can't get any weirder on Nip/Tuck ... it... you know... gets weirder . Surreal scenes set to The Rolling Stones made for some head scratching viewing. Playlist: Nip/Tuck - Episode 406 Right out of the gates it's a dream-within-a-homo-erotic-dre am, with Christian and Sean sunning themselves at a gay retreat to the sounds of The Pleasure Seekers' "I Like The Boys" . Sean locks himself in the closet (again with the [...]
You can take the girl out of Long Island, but you apparently can't take the Long Island accent out of Rosie O'Donnell . The new host of The View guest starred on last night's Nip/Tuck as a Pensicola white trash lottery winner named Dawn Budge. O'Donnell was fine in the role, but that accent was far more 'I'm down visiting my uncle Saul' then the needed 'I just moved out of the trailer park, y'all.' Playlist: Nip/Tuck - Ep. 405 [...]

You can add Melissa Gilbert to the parade of stars from the 1980s that have guest appeared on Nip/Tuck so far this season. Larry Hagman , Kathleen Turner , Richard Chamberlain , Jacqueline Bisset , Brooke Shields , Tracy Scoggins ... we haven't seen this many has-beens on board since The Love Boat . Of course you never saw ship Dr. Adam Bricker treating Charo for a bitten off nipple. You see soldier's wife Shari [...]

How many times are we going to see Christian 's ( Julian McMahon 's) ass this season? Three episodes in and I'm pretty sure I can pick it out in a police lineup . Last night's episode featured a YouTube posting of one of Dr. Naughty's sexual encounters, and gave us the pause-rewind-play-by-play of Christian's very white dereare. Cue ass #2: the suddenly ubiquitous Mario Lopez, who's about to win the latest edition of Dancing with the Stars . ( Sister Sledge [...]
