I was thinking about this a lot the other night, and I think its time to being the great debate of the Best Pop Song of the 00s over to PMA. Before everyone starts mouthing off some obscure Scandinavian pop songs, here are a few rules. 1. The song had to have achieved notoriety from 2000-present. 2. It pains me to say this, but the song has to have been a nationwide (or worldwide) hit. The bigger, the better, in most cases. Why? Because pop music is supposed to be universal. [...]

I finally had the opportunity to see a band that I've been a fan of for years for the first time live last night, No Doubt . I recall listening to their classic Tragic Kingdom album on a constant rotation back in the mid-nineties, back when the album was released. Buying up their past discography as well, I discovered a band which would become one of my true favorites. As Gwen Stefani's solo career sprouted, I began to loose interest in her music for the [...]
The Sounds - Beatbox The Sounds of Sweden are back on the scene again with a new release out today called Crossing the Rubicon . If you’re looking for more of their high energy dance-rock formula then you will not be disappointed by this latest record. The song “Beatbox” has nothing to do with the talents of Biz Markie, but it finds singer Maja Ivarsson spitting rhymes over a heavy beat of synth, guitars and drums. The energy of this song has almost arena rock-like qualities which must get fans going [...]
It's been forever and a few days since Gwen, Tony, Tom and Adrian played tour dates together, but now that they're about to jump out on a tour this summer (starting Saturday) where they'll finally be on stage together as No Doubt , they need your help. They're obviously going to want to play their massive mid-90s single "Just A Girl"--you know, the one that launched their careers--and they want fans to send them video clips so they can project them on screens behind them as they play the song. So, lip sync, dress like Gwen, just do whatever [...]

And here it is! The eleventh episode of my ongoing pmaCAST. I know this one is like 3 weeks late, but it's here and that's all that matters, right? Regarding the title: good ole @Beat623 , tweeted it to me after my little bout of writer's block. It's only appropriate since this entire podcast was inspired by my adventures on Twitter . For realsies. Every song was inspired by someone I follow. If I follow you, and you think you know which song you inspired, feel free to shout it out in the comments. I'm actually [...]

"Stand" and Deliver" is the a newly recorded cover No Doubt gave to all of the fans who bought tickets via the presale (and effectively giving Ticketmaster the finger). I was one of the sheeple that bought No Doubt tickets early, by the way. "Stand and Deliver" was recorded FOR Gossip Girl, because the mp3 came tagged with "From the television show Gossip Girl." So make sure to catch No Doubt perform the Adam and the Ants cover on Gossip Girl on its season finale in May. I heard this cover wasn't very good . ALL [...]

It's about freakin' time No Doubt released new songs! "Stand And Deliver" is an exclusive track that comes in a media library of all their songs released to fans who have purchased tickets to their concerts via the fan club presale. I can't believe I downloaded a 700 MB file for just one song (I mean, who doesn't have all their albums already?), but damn they better have included something good for the $120 I paid for for just one ticket. This is a cover of an Adam & The Ants [...]

No Doubt (aka, Gwen Stefani's other project) is finally playing out again, this time playing pavilions and amphitheaters and such across North America. Excited? I'm not really either. Maybe I would have been like 10 years ago, but now I feel like there are about a million other bands I'd rather see live. Well, whatever, for those of you who want to relive your youthful days of listening to "Don't Speak" on repeat while burning your ex's picture in a trashcan, the dates [...]

A 1996 Christmas album by the Vandals (uh, Christmas with the Vandals) spawned this song. No Doubt covered it the very next year for A Very Special Christmas 3.MP3: The Vandals, "Oi! To the World" ... Continue reading "Xmas Jam Countdown: "Oi! To the World" by the Vandals and No Doubt" >

Photography by Mariah Good friend and fan of Tsururadio (I'm assuming) James Thurber once said, "There is no safety in numbers, or in anything else." That may well be true, Mr. Thurber, you scoundrel, but I've found over the years numbers can elicit much emotion, from the highest joys to the greatest frustrations to the darkest misery. Twenty million, a very happy number when it's the amount you won in the lottery, not so much when it's the amount your company lost last year. It's not even the [...]

No Doubt will go on TOUR in 2009! I'm having an OMFG moment right now... Okay, I'm better. No Doubt and its multiple-levels of amazing will go on tour... soon! Gwen is hiring nannies and everything! Holy shit , people. This calls for a list! 10 Favorite No Doubt Songs 10. Spiderwebs I think I love everything [...]

Lady GaGa is really having me rethink my "Bonus Track" policy that I have around here. "Vanity" is found on the UK version of Lady GaGa 's debut The Fame . The delicious pop tune runs a few seconds short of 3 minutes, but the music speaks volumes. Lady GaGa is seriously giving Katy Perry a run for her money on "Vanity". The new song is somewhat reminiscent of Katy's "Hot N' Cold" mega-single, while continually reminding us of the No Doubt swagger Gwen Stefani used [...]
Song obsessions are those songs that we listen to on repeat. I noticed that my obsessions are often a week long. I also thought that other people might have similar obsessions. I've collected a panel of a few like-minded individuals and gotten their "song obsessions of the week." Quite often it's easy to explain why the song is good; it's much hard to explain why we're obsessed. Maybe you'll become obsessed with one of these. - Adrian ( me ): Avett Brothers - Tear Down this House [...]
