I know it began and is supposed to be a product of “the streets”, but trap music probably has a better sense of humor than any other genre. I’ve noticed that great creative works meant for a wide audience all have one thing in common – they can’t take themselves too seriously. The work of commensurate craftsmen lacks soul. The journeyman can look back, but doesn’t have much acumen for innovation. Pure melody can certainly be pretty, but how can it engage you another level outside of the awe and knee-jerk wonder? It swings the other way of [...]

Diplo and Switch's West Indian MC collaboration project, Major Lazer, hasn't released another album yet, but they're active on the remix and occasional single circuit. These are their latest releases, put out under the title Lazer Strikes Back . Not exactly groundbreaking - I'd prefer some entirely new material - but fun to listen to nonetheless. Get Free feat. Amber of Dirty Projectors (Avicii Edit) by Major Lazer [OFFICIAL] No Doubt - Settle Down (Major Lazer Remix) by [...]

So there's this Wicked Awesome remix of No Doubt's " Don't Speak ." I just told you who its by and how good it is all at the same time. We posted his sick collab with TYR previously and would love to know what their moms put in their cereal. If the level of creativity and talent these kids have are any indication of success, I'm going to say if they keep working, they'll be up on some much bigger stages very soon. Bonus: [...]

Major Lazer’s remix of “Settle Down” should have *No Doubt* been the original.

No Doubt is about to drop their highly anticipated album 'Push & Shove. I know that Major Lazer a.k.a. Switch & Diplo produced the title track 'Push & Shove'. As prelude prior to the album release, No Doubt is re-releasing the first single 'Settle Down' with remix from Major Lazer. The original is a bit reggae'ish and Major Lazer turned it into a moombahton number. Pretty cool stuff, especially if you're a fan of Major Lazer!

When No Doubt announced their return to the studio earlier this year, fans were more than excited. After an 11 year hiatus, the classic group dropped their new single but didn't maintain the same hype by the mediocrity of the reggae influenced "Settle Down". Fortunately, during their break, mega-producer Diplo became a star in the music industry along with his Switch -collabo project, Major Lazer . Taking the long-awaited track and adding the proper heavy drums, some sirens, synthesized sounds and upping the tempo while still keeping Gwen Stefani's iconic voice intact, Major Lazer [...]

No Doubt 's comeback entry "Settle Down" is an interesting one. Despite having all the familiar elements typical of one of the last great singles pop bands-the cool hodge-podge of different musical styles; a lyric peppered with all kinds of awkward, "inside joke-y" hip-speak; and a winning chorus led by Gwen Stefani's much-missed distinctive vox that slyly presents the act as being in the same headspace of past mega-hits, some of which are well over a decade-plus old ( !!!! )-the song still feels like it's lacking something to really set it off in being the big [...]
