Die alternativen Psychedelic-Rocker Ten Kens sind bei uns nahezu unbekannt. Leider. Aber was soll ich machen außer mir hier die Finger wund zu schreiben? Nichts. Okay, der letzte Eintrag über die Amerikaner ist nun auch schon wieder drei Jahre her: Ten Kens Angeblicher Misanthrop entdeckt beim Gassigehen tolle Musik. Der ziemlich tolle Song "Gently Used" stammt von ihrem just die Tage erschienenen Album "Namesake". Some guttural, grimy, and wild post-hardcore from Creative Adult on their new EP, Bulls In The Yard . Even the guitars sound like they've got whiskey on their breath and a few days of stubble on their teeth. There's a primal, Dope Body-esque vibe to the odd vocals, but the band's momentum is a little more driving. "Hexxy" made its first appearance as the opening track on Speedy Ortiz's debut release, The Death of Speedy Ortiz . Back then it was called "Hexxy Sadie" (a particularly witty Beatles referencethe lead singer's name is Sadie) and it was a lo-fi bedroom recording with sloppy and distant drums and poorly recorded vocals. It was awesome back then and it is still awesome now, with Justin Pizzoferrato's (Chelsea Light Moving, Dinosaur Jr.) engineering. The song still has teeth but now they're sharpened to a point.
