Have you heard? Norwegian rockers Supermale have been recording in Vancouver for the past several weeks with local Vancouver producer Tyler Johnson AKA Digg . Winnie got a chance to sit down with them and she thinks they're pretty great... and their music? Even greater. A new project emerging from the eight-person Norwegian band " Pony The Pirate ", Supermale boasts a indie rock look with an electro pop feel. Influenced by the likes of Arcade Fire and Röyksopp, their new material goes from analog to fiddles and cellos; to say the least. [...]

Abigail Williams Becoming Candlelight Records 23 January 2012 by Andy Parker Abigail Williams is the sole brainchild of Ken Sorceron, a man who has purged and rebuilt his empire several times over in the search of his "true" sound. Becoming sees the band's creator and leader finally making some serious headway into [...]

One of the bands that I've really enjoyed following over the last several years has been Norway's I Was a King . They've just issued a really small run of a split 73 EP on Splendour Records with Half-Handed Cloud , and I'm really enjoyhing their effort here. There's a great swirling melody that is underscored by the guitar work, one of the prominent instruments in this band's repertoire. If you haven't had an opportunity to check out this band, the time is right [...]
Bloodstock Open Air has added Ancient Egypt-obsessed death metallers, Nile , and historically-extremely-importa nt-although-not-really-as-good -as-they-used-to-be black metallers, Mayhem , to its 2012 line-up. And...errr...that's about it. Both bands are making their Bloodstock debuts, and both bands are going to be UK festival exclusives for Bloodstock this year, but then again we doubt there were many other festivals fighting to be first ones to knock either band's booking agent's doors. Don't get us wrong - both bands will no doubt put on a kickass show on the Main Stage at Bloodstock [...]

With a career now spanning 40 years — and nearly double that on disc — Miami's own Joe McPhee is still a woefully underrated leader here in his native land. So perhaps that's why his latest free-wheelin', forward-thinking quartet is three-fourths Scandinavian. Taking their name from that Don Cherry tune , The Thing is reed specialist Mats Gustafsson, idiophone extraordinaire Paal Nilssen-Love and the heady low end theories of one Ingebrigt H. Flaten. Gustafsson you'll know from high-profile gigs with l'éminence rousse Thurston Moore and a cadre of other Jazzmaster masters, but it's Nilssen-Love who truly makes The Thing. A bleeding heart [...]

FAO Scandinavia: stop putting out so much amazing music. (Not really, y'know, but we're struggling to keep up at this stage.) The latest in a long, long line of fantastic bands to hail from the region is Norwegian sextet Team Me, who create the kind of music that is (regrettably) going to get them lots of lazy comparisons to bands like Arcade Fire. The Canadian group have set the standard for widescreen, euphoric songs, but Show Me is no pale imitation of the group's influences. It's a free download, and the first taste of their debut album To [...]

dry the river - weights & measures [i really shouldn't say too much about this song only that it's epic, beautifully heartbreaking and well... our song of the month. thank you dry the river!] dry the river - weights & measures (live @ bush hall) [check out this amazing song performed live by the boys (especially the acapella intro sans mic!)] http://feeds.feedburner.com/Wo ngiesMusicWorld

"The End" is the beginning of Lemaitre 's upcoming debut album called Relativity I due out January 20th. The only upsetting part about this release is that it came from my PandoraMusic's youtube account, an unsurprising signal of the mainstream slowly catching on to these electric Norwegians. Troysnoise debuted the crew over a year ago . "The End" It starts how it ends...
Phone Joan , a band from Norway, had this wonderful video done for them by some Norwegian film students. In their email they said, " It portrays a day in a life of this beautiful young woman. From the moment she wakes up from a one night stand until the next day, having repeated the last…. a perfect story for the desperate mood in the song." The result is a powerful combination of video and song that [...]

Adorably jejune flickering lyrical inflexions of playing with "a dangerous flame again", darting woodwind to bring tears to the bloodshot eyes of Tim DeLaughter, the boisterous melodiousness of Born Ruffians, glib "nah nah nahs" genuinely worthy of Black Parade-era MCR, the odd Wombat-like "whoo", and ecclesiastical harmonies all contribute to, without ever clashing on Show Me, the first release from Team Me's forthcoming long-player, To The Treetops! Out March 5th, the spring-heeled single that precedes the Oslo troupe's eagerly awaited debut full-length fizzes and pops effervescently throughout, prior to eventually exploding into the sort of sparkling denouement only [...]

By Trevor Meyer Once again, Team Me offers up an appetizing track. Accompanied by a stunning, and eye-catching video, "Show Me" displays the diverse pop writing ability of the Scandinavian six piece. "Show Me" is from their album To The Treetops! The album is set to be released, March 5th. Keep doing work in Oslo! Team Me - Show Me Team Me ( Facebook ) ( [...]

Whoa... what have we here? Beyond a beautiful and promiscuously toned video, oozes the gospel tinted blues and shoegaze of Oslo, Norway exports Phone Joan. Soak yourself in the vulnerable timbre of their dynamic new single "Damned" and be sure to pick up a copy of Phone Joan's sophomore LP +47 91799466 due March 14th. When Wolves Like Us played at The Underworld with Kvelertak before Christmas we took a few moments to catch up with one of our favourite new bands of 2011. Drummer, Jonas Thire was telling us about how excellent their Prosthetic Records labelmates, Junius were and that they wanted to tour together. Well, it's happened. Wolves Like Us + Junius April 2012 UK tour dates 22 Nottingham Hit The Deck Fest 23 Glasgow Ivory Blacks [...]

With most of the appeal of Beyonce's fan & crit-beloved 4 single "Countdown" lying in Be's superwoman diva vocals and a thrillingly frenetic production that makes a fine modern pop-soul mess out of old-school Boyz II Men shout-outs, dizzying horn cycles, marching band percussion and bits of dancehall trickle, having the song stripped down into a sleepy coffeehouse acoustic form might not read as all that necessary on paper... ...that is, until one has given an ear to this early Xmas gift of a remake by elfin Norwegian singer-songwriter [...]

Norweigan Sondre Lerche has given his fans a holiday treat in the form of a cover of Beyonce's "Countdown". He takes the party anthem, and chills it way back with his acoustic guitar. Now it's taylor made for snuggling by the fireside.
Yep, you read that right. We all know the meanest and nastiest black metal bands come from Norway, but did you ever think that this evil would spread into the world of fashion? 1349 have teamed up with Anti designer , Karoline Bakken Lund, to create an exclusive line of jeans, made to suit all your church-burning needs. The promo pictures show the band distressing the jeans in a dark smoky room and (wait for it!) even holding a lighter next to some buttons! Holy shit, that's "scary". According to [...]

Lucy Swann Trio When a vocalist/keyboard player, beatboxer and double bass player make up a band, it's fair to assume that they will perk people's curiousities. With no first impressions except, "This chick is cute," Lucy Swann breaks out into acapella beats (using her trusty loop pedals), rhythms of mystical electronica with her own soulful croon and screech. Bringing in the hard, gritty beats was beatboxer Droolian (Julian Sommerfelt), while Christian Skjønhaug broke out a sensual and melodic bassline. Lucy Swann of Lucy Swann Trio [...]

Norwegian collective Young Dreams originated about two years ago in the city of Bergen as an experimental group where founder Matias Tellez (already an established solo artist in his home country) and a handful of others artists could "explore bigger sounds and expansive compositions". Based in Bergen, a city that already has a bit of a reputation for quality pop music thanks to bands like Casiokids , Magnet or Kings Of Convenience , Young Dreams features a revolving cast of up to twelve members, united by a common desire to craft buoyant pop numbers that [...]
