Norwegian singer Jenny Hval is not afraid to be explicit; but rather than preside over an unraveling of personal guilt and insecurity, Hval’s lyrics play around with subjectivity and sensuality in a way that is powerful and direct, as on her latest song “The Seer” off of her forthcoming album Innocence Is Kinky . “The voice is wordless tissue” sings Hval in a voice that most certainly could be described in measures of flesh and sinew, one that combines Hval's idiosyncratic weirdness with the indie rock maneuverings of someone like Karen O. Hval knows that to make something majestic [...]

Mi Casa Es En Fuego, which means, "my house is on fire" in Spanish, is an appropriate name to call a set of music that's often aflame, and even in the quieter moments, the embers are still glowing, ready to re-ignite the house again. That's just how Ballister rolls, a visceral trio who only makes records extemporaneously and live in [...]

POSTILJONEN es un trio escandinavo conformado por dos suecos y una noruega, haciendo música desde finales del 2011. Después de hacer mucho ruido el año pasado con "How Will I Know / All That We Had Is Lost", el trio regresa con su nuevo sencillo "Supreme", toda una delicia. Enjoy.
Norwegian blackjazz/ rock band SHINING just released a brand new music video for their song I Won't Forget. It may not be very much of a stretch to say that the up and coming Norwegian band "Young Dreams" is writing some of the most catchy, endorphin-releasing music of recent years. The clean-cut psychedelic/baroque/indie-pop band's 2013 debut "Between Places" showcases 24 year old frontman Matias Tellez a clear talent for writing impossibly infectious songs that are produced on a musical canvas that was developed by studying a vast array of influences, ranging from (obviously) the Beach Boys, Animal Collective, Flaming Lips, Mozart, and a great deal of other modern bands and classical composers. Some people may [...]

Norwegian producer August Hoiberg (AKA Cashmere Cat) just released his debut EP, Mirror Maru, and though the title track has been making the rounds for a few months, its been gaining some internet steam in the past few days. And it’s not hard to see why: Cashmere Cat produces the kind of DJ music that skews more towards bubblegum pop and anime theme songs than the dreaded “house music.” “Mirror Maru” is resplendent with weird squeaks, cheesy piano riffs, tom rolls, and synthetic string parts that leap at you from the 70s. There is something severely video game-inflicted about this [...]

As huge fans of everything Scandinavia, we have found our new favorite act in Norway’s Musique Le Pop . Their new single “Turn To Sand” is a whirling disco number that sways it’s silky ways deep inside your heart. It finds a way to be ultimately massive through the dream-drenched synths and the angelic vocals of Elizabeth Thorson. This carries a bit of an extra starlit punch than most other entries of this genres, making for a surprising danceable and ethereal experience.

By Russell Warfield March 19, 2013 Whether or not tonight’s set is part of a concentrated attempt by Susanne Sundfør to ‘crack’ the UK is unclear, but with the instant accessibility of songs like ‘White Foxes’ synthesising with her established eccentricities throughout excellent new album The Silicone Veil , it’s not a huge leap to say she has been successful in her mission. Incredibly well known in her native Norway, Sundfør remains a comparatively unknown quantity over here, although an uncomfortably overcrowded backroom at Hoxton [...]
After a year or so on the sidelines, Scandinavia and Northern Europe is back when it comes to fantastic pop music. Honestly, in the past few months, I've seen more great music come out of the region than in all of last year. It's really an amazing resurgence, and kind of reminds me of when I first got into Scandinavian music a decade ago. I just wanted to give some of these fantastic songs another look today, because each and every one of them is totally special. Not only that, but most are from artists I'd never featured [...]

Words by Chris Fear New, yet already confident in their icy sound, Here Is Your Temple are a Swedish alt-pop five piece who create intense bursts of skillfully-crafted, brooding electronic pop. Finally reaching the UK, they’re releasing their new EP ‘So High ’ next month and the title-track and forthcoming single provides a tantalizing glimpse of their unique sound. Propelled by a pummeling drumbeat and a palpitating, husky bassline, the track expands into a rolling soundscape of ethereal synths, punctuated by crystalline [...]
