signs of what you said, it's killing me ♫ Nowonder - White Light As if it wasn't hard enough keeping up with great new tracks from bands we know and covering albums that melt faces , there is also the steady stream of amazing music being made by somehow unknown artists. Los Angeles' Danny Choi is one of them and after a stint working in the music department of Yo Gabba Gabba he formed his solo project, Nowonder. With hints of Germany Germany, Ratatat, and Crystal Castles, [...]

Time for another installment of Monday Music - the only post where SOIWT deviates from its London-only focus: Funkadelic - Maggot Brain Last night a friend bullied me into going to the Michael Clark Company 's Tate Modern performance, a contemporary dance show featuring professional ballerinas and hastily-trained, flawles s amateurs pirouetting and prancing over a stark soundtrack (including this edgy George Clinton number). I had many thoughts about the show, from Gatsby parallels to Saturday Night Fever recollections to adoration of its punkish tribute [...]

Will Stratton is just a man with a guitar. Scratch that. Will Stratton is just a man with a guitar and a gift. A gift for strumming and picking, a gift for rhythm and for melody, a gift for singing in a low register and grabbing one's heart. I suppose that's several gifts. Let's move [...]

Nowonder is the alias of aspiring Los Angeles-based electronic-pop recording artist, Danny Choi. With an extensive background in music, including a stint working with the music production staff of the hit television program " Yo Gabba Gabba ," Choi has long since honed his craft and geared it towards developing his own burgeoning production career. Stylistically, the highly infectious hooks and atmospheric electronic bits in the Nowonder tunes delineate the young musician's diverse tastes and songwriting precision. Like many independent musicians today, Choi utilizes a 'one-man operation' approach in the skillful writing, production and mixing processes in his work (the quality [...]

Will Stratton is a NYC-area singer-songwriter who released this album No Wonder in October last year and as I have been listening to it pretty solidly over the past week I have to say I am very impressed here and this is some great, great stuff. Generally a very chilled out, spacious acoustic kind of sound, he really sets a great mood and a great tone with these songs. Great wintry kinds of songs, just really mellow and soft and really really well put together. This would [...]

One would think ballads to lovers lost would sound anything but apathetic. One would be wrong. Still, despite the detached disinterest in his voice, Will Stratton writes engagingly private songs that soothe the soul. When your heart has been broken, it's nice to know someone else has been there before. Reminds Us Of: J. Will Stratton releases new album and some mp3 goodness

Wunderkid Will Stratton 's newest LP, No Wonder , dropped earlier this week and I'd be remiss not to share my thoughts. I know very little about Stratton, except that Mr. Nobody, Sufjan Stevens, made an appearance on his first album, What The Night Said , which garnered much critical praise. His voice is eerily reminiscent of Nick Drake's, as the raspy, bass-driven tone and soft, delicate music give way to much emotional evocation. The tunes float by on acoustic strumming and subtle, backing keys, with occasional flourishes of a horn and the like. I, [...]
