First wave of NXNE announcements here but yes I'm looking forward to the free show at Yonge Dundas Square on Friday June 14, headlined by The National . NXNE takes place in venues across Toronto from June 10 to 16.
CMW hasn't even come and gone and NXNE (June 10-16) is already announcing bands. The biggest news is the free Yonge Dundas Square show on June 14th from The National . Their new album should hit the streets about a month before that. Also among the announced acts are my personal favorites, the never disappointing Greatest Rock N' Roll Band In the World, The Supersuckers . See the rest of the names here .

Black Owl’s name suits their dark, rough sound remarkably well. There are comfortable swaths of American roots-rock, 70’s folk stomp, and 60’s guitar pop. However, the whole thing gets a proto-punk tint with the occasionally aggressive guitar work and oblique lyrics. The result is a strong-backed collection of wooly guitar rock that’s really going for something. What that something is exactly, I don’t know. Maybe they don’t either.
