This past Saturday, I attended the 2nd annual Pacific Festival at Oak Canyon Ranch in Orange County. Last year, the festival apparently happened at an outdoor mall, so the fact that the venue changed from that to a beautiful outdoor park was about as attractive as the stellar lineup. Fox and dinosaur tailed bikinied furried feathered painted people, "live paintings," massive jungle gym sculptures on the lawn, installations of all shapes and sizes (a clump of organized sticks stands out in my mind), and interactive tree sage bead rock figurine based mandalas were just a few of the experiential visual highlights last weekend as 12,000 people camped on Silverado’s Oak Canyon Ranch for four days of intense music, sweaty dancing, hot sun, foam baths, informative workshops and yogic meditation, proving Lightning in a Bottle, in its tenth year, to be a wondrous festival of collaboration and creation. The final day of a memorable Memorial Weekend at the 2011 Lightning in a Bottle festival began with a bang known as Pussymonster. To start it off, Zoe Jakes (Beats Antique), DJ Shawna and a handful of their greased up men stormed the stage and made sure everybody felt their presence. The second day at LIB was packed with the excitement generated by mega-headliners like Pretty Lights and Beats Antique . The treats started long before their sets though at The Bamboo Stage, which boasted an exceptional lineup of its own. Notables included Portland-based acts like Phutureprimitive and Russliquid, a NYC-vet named Gladkill, and a few others that hailed from in and around the Bay (ill-esha, Heyoka, and LowRIDERZ).
