Marina Diamandis aka Marina & The Diamonds is a beautiful half Greek/Half Welch songstress. I first discovered her three years ago and have had a mega crush ever since. She writes all of her own music and lyrics, making her a musical genius. Salva - Obsession ft. B. Bravo Frite Nite bossman Salva , based in San Francisco, has been on fire in 2011, first coming out with a stellar and diverse debut album in February's Complex Housing and back with another knockout in next month'sYellobone EP. Second track "Obsession," featuring Frite Nite buddy B. Bravo, is a pretty good taste of what's to come: irresistible funk, fuzzy nostalgia and a hearty serving of bass that will hit you in your core.
It wasn't long ago that I got to chill with Salva in Montreal. We both played the same gig and I was beyond excited to see his live set after rinsing his full length, Complex Housing . He didn't disappoint me or the capacity crowd at the venue. God, have I fallen hard for this band. There's some sort of musical synergy that I share with Girls singer/songwriter Christopher Owens. The three Girls albums (2 full lengths and an EP) are played regularly, and every listen is more and more of an enriching and fulfilling experience. A few weeks ago I came across this "Philly via New Jersey outfit," as it reads on the band's Bandcamp from some website or another (forgive me, for I have forgotten the exact one). At first, because we refuse not to be visceral and analytic of the most basic premises, the "Kicks" part in Vintage Kicks immediately shot headway to "Pumped Up Kicks," a song so dogged in modern rock popularity that anything within it's idea peripheral forms to auto-assimilate.
