A week before the epic 1-Year Anniversary Party at Discovery takes over Santos Party House with legendary Scott Grooves as the special guest, the Discovery residents VDRK and Free Magic, along with long-time friend, compatriot and DJ OCD Automatic will all be hanging out at the soon-to-be-standard-fare-for-n ightlife spot Liberty Hall at the Ace Hotel. Celebrating [...]

The Paper Cat On The Prowl! Solid Bump Unleashes the Cat! Short and sweet – this is the release Solid Bump Records has been waiting on. Anyone who knows us has heard about it. The release has already reached #2 on the Turntable Lab singles chart as well having been featured the Beatport "Must Hear Nu-Disco Tracks" of the week. Below is an exclusive free remix from New York's Free Magic of the infamous Discovery party in NYC. Check out what people are saying below and check out the free remix. [...]

Two of my bro's, Adulture (formerly Le Principle) and OCD Automatic , put out this Paper Cat EP way back in June and I'm finally posting about it now. Yep, I'm an asshole. But hey, it's never too late to check out good music and that's exactly what this is. UR Chicago must agree with me because they had their correspondent in the field, Mike Perry (of The Dirty Diamonds & Black Holes), sit down with Garrett to unlock some of his deepest, darkest secrets. Not really, but it's a hearty interview none the [...]
Sure, it may be the worst night of the year to throw a party, but if you attended this past Saturday's Discovery party (the last one at venue Santos Party House-long story) you would have to believe in the true spirit of New York, as droves of kids came out on the most somber day [...]
Yup, this Saturday you guys. Chicago's own Bit Funk and the Montreal one-man powerhouse CFCF (nee Mike Silver) are both coming down the stairs to the basement of Santos Party House for the monthly Discovery party, helmed at the wheelhouse by VDRK and Free Magic. It's free before midnight if you RSVP (we suggest you [...]

" Solid Bump does it again! Adulture & OCD Automatic 's "Paper Cat" just kills it on that funky disco house tip, with a HUGE sound that'll tear up the club. Seriously, everything is banging on this track from the filtered loop, the drums, synths, bass and arrangement, perfect stuff to mix in with any house or disco set. The original is already so good, but they decide to throw you some excellent remixes too including a wicked version from Fool's Gold artist Sammy Bananas who adds some nice sax work(!) and Levan-style synths over the [...]

MP3:Adulture & OCD Automatic-Paper Cat (Sammy Bananas Remix) ( via Fools Gold via Rcrd Label ) I got up with Adulture when I was in Chi for Pitchfork. The Columbus ex-pat has a weekly at the Smart Bar and is still pumping out music, as evident by this Sammy Bananas remix. Dood is mainly way into learning everything he can about Chicago House, and seeing what the world has in store.
Joining forces this summer, on July 2, only at the Puma Social Club, the greatest pop-up venue the South Street Seaport has seen since, well, since forever, the kids at Fool's Gold Records and Brooklyn dance party destroyers Famous Friends and Discovery are coming to take your brothers and sisters to the dance floor. With [...]
OCD Automatic & VDRK - photo by The Culture of Me Months in the making, this fantastic tune was crafted by two amazingly talented friends of ours, VDRK and OCD Automatic . Their partnership in the realm of music began when a disco mothership dropped them above Wisconsin. Fast forward to 2010 and here they are with their massive debut, the disco house anthem "Tell My Love." Originally to be a Subdrive retail release (and track 14 on our Summer from Below mix ), we loved the [...]

If you've ever partied in Madison, Wisconsin (and yes, Wisconsin definitely knows how to party) then you've probably been out to a night that Erin Keeffe (aka OCD Automatic ) provided the beats for. Bad for Madison, but good for Chicago, Keeffe has relocated to our fine city (becoming my nearby neighbor in the process) and has been gracing our nightlife scene with his blend of house and disco. Keeffe got his start in Madison with fellow disco fanatic, Aaron Davis ( VDRK ). Though Davis now lives in Brooklyn, the duo have [...]
This past Saturday night, at the sixth installment of the monthly radness known as "Discovery", the smoke machine was out in full force, the sweat was plentiful and the tunes--were massive. Featuring residents Free Magic and VDRK (Famous Friends) and...

VDRK & OCD Automatic are two young gentlemen from Brooklyn and Chicago who have crafted a piece of disco-electro madness. I've had the pleasure of knowing VDRK, (as well as having him on my radio show) back in my NYC days and he never ceased to impress me with his charisma, track selection, disco flail outs and hysterity on the dance floor. Needless to say i've been waiting on him to put out a track for far too long. And he and his boy OCD do not fail. I've had this track for about a month or [...]
Full disclosure about this: we've known about this song's impending release for months now and we're so fucking happy the day is finally here. So much talking about it and theorizing about what the song would become, but now, all...

If you're in New York this weekend then you're in for a treat. VDRK and OCD Automatic, alongside Preston Craig and Free Magic, are throwing a little release party at Santos for their new track "Tell My Love". I can safely say that this is one of my favorite tracks from the past couple months and I would have put it in my top 10 tracks of 2009 but, sadly, it wasn't officially released yet. I know it might be a little early to dub this a "top 10 prospect" for this year, but who knows. I do. [...]
DISCOVERY 2K10 is ready to make your Saturday night pop off...seriously, it's going to pop off, son! So get your disco-dancing shoes ready and read on for the rad radness. While reminiscing about intimate hometown parties filled with great crowds and non-stop dance floors, NYC DJ's VDRK [...]

Remember when I mentioned that some of the Chicago Disco Massive were launching a new disco-centric party in the new year? I rarely post on specific events, but today they unveiled their first guest as the one and only Mike Simonetti (of Italians Do It Better ) and that's one hell of a kickoff that's left me excited and impressed. The party is titled Trick Disco , the inaugural evening is scheduled for January 15th and it will take place, going forward, the third Friday of every month at Subterranean here in Chicago. [...]

Let's just get back to good tunes. Old or new. Breakbot - Penelope Pitstop ( old + inspired by OCD Automatic ) Chromeo - Night by Night (Siriusmo Remix) (I saw Chromeo this weekend. Incredibly fun show) Delphic - This Momentary (Radioproof Remix) (sounds like a tight video game, kind of) Dmitry Fyodorov - Coconut Office (dark, minimal, tech-house. Beautiful) Feist - Sea Lion (Chromeo Remix) ( old + inspired by Kid Color ) [...]
One final night of CMJ left, we rested up for a quick disco nap at the apartment after the Levi's/The Fader fort sweatfest and headed straight out to Root Studios in the still-warehouse-district portion of Williamsburg for the Topman-curated event,...

The Wooden Sky remind me of a less poppy, and possibly more talented, version of The Fray. The band is comprised of four dudes out of Canada with a penchant for truly wholesome music, the brand of music that I think the "industry" is lacking these days. From start to finish their newest album, If I Don't Come Home You'll Be Gone , is a perfectly balanced blend of on-point vocals atop hearty guitars, pianos and strings. Pretty much everything one would look for when digging into the "chillacious indie" realm. In [...]
