Gabriel Bruce: It’s Chri-i-i-i-istmas!

Gabriel Bruce: It’s Chri-i-i-i-istmas! There's no real reason that the music you are instinctively drawn to at Christmas should be the chirpy 'n' cheerful 70s hits that are pumped out 18 hours a day in your local Starbucks, you know. Don't get me wrong: I love the Xmas Classics of  Slade and Wizzard , et al, and I especially love the former's total disregard for grammar . But I've always found myself drawn to very specific albums at this time of year - Spiritualized's Ladies and Gentleman We Are Floating In Space , Talking Heads' [...]

Gabriel Bruce- Sleep Paralysis

Gabriel Bruce- Sleep Paralysis Gabriel Bruce's sleep paralysis has got that baritone comparative to The National, with similar spooky qualities of Timber Timbre or Leonard Cohen. It moves with the interplay of dark and light (sleep/wake) to the minimal sound of an organ and Bruce repeating, "I got this feeling that we're dead". It strikes me at a good time- now that it gets darker, earlier, now that I've been listening to way too much Radiolab , and watching too many late-night documentaries. The video coincides with a debut 73 release via the London art collective Off [...]

Gabriel Bruce – Sleep Paralysis

Gabriel Bruce – Sleep Paralysis "I got this feeling I was dead, and there’s nothing more", the oft-repeated line from Sleep Paralysis, and ex-Loverman Gabriel Bruce sets the tone for his debut single. A song of mounting desperation and loss with Bruce's deep gravelly voice crooning over a simple organ pattern and increasingly industrial percussion. Simple and built to a crescendo - a song to which to lie on the cold hard floor, scrunch your eyes up tight and re-examine, and re-explore what you have, as the music pounds its way into your soul. Sleep Paralysis 73 is out [...]

(Song Of The Day) Gabriel Bruce - Sleep Paralysis

(Song Of The Day) Gabriel Bruce - Sleep Paralysis (Song Of The Day) Gabriel Bruce - Sleep Paralysis   ‘I got this feeling I was, dead and there’s nothing more’ If London’s Gabriel Bruce voice does not instantly captivate you; then surely his lyrics will. Its a little dark but that is counteracted by the hypnotizing drums, organ and off course a synthesizer. If you are like me and you are dying to hear more of Gabriel’s [...]
