There's no reason not to love what Old Tapes from Rochester, NY are putting out these days.
Tweet vaso link Here's the bee-utiful video for Old Tapes' "Queen" from their debut EP, This Is Good-bye , which was released in October of last year. Oh, and if you weren't aware, we helped with pressing a couple of songs on the EP to 73 vinyl, which you can still get if you click on that annoying red bar at the top of the page. (And if you do get a copy of the 73, we'll give you the rest of the EP as [...]

Old Tapes is a trio made up of frontwoman Lisa Kribs, her brother Michael and David McGinnis, from Rochester, New York. Together they craft synth laden, angular rock which alternates from sneering to the mellow and subdued, and back again. This ability to shift through a range of emotions, from seething to sweet, is captured beautifully on their recently released [...]

Click here to view the embedded video. The trio of Old Tapes have released their debut music video for 'Farewell', which recently was in the top 10 on Hype Machine . The video doesn't rely on flash or gimmicks, it is in fact extremely simple, but that is what makes it so good. The simplicity of the video doesn't distract from the track itself, which is an emotional ride between seething and sweet. You can still get their 6 track EP at the band’s BandCamp site [...]
Tweetvaso link A student at the University of Rochester, DJ Alykahn’s website boasts that he drops “beats, but never classes.” And as a double major at the U of R, I bet he’s probably thought about dropping a class or two along the way, so if that's the truth, then I'm impressed. Hailing from Philadelphia,...

More news from old friends today. Tympanogram Records, the small label founded by our buddies over at Tympanogram , have announced their second pressing, a 73 from Rochester natives Old Tapes. The record will feature two tracks, the soft and tender "Farewell", as well as a new track, "What I Need Tonite". I've already made my schoolboy crush on this band pretty clear, so take my advice and scoop this one up before it's too late. Speaking of Old Tapes, did you know that their debut EP, This Is Goodbye , is [...]

Boy, oh boy do I have a great song for you. This one is coming from synth-rock band, Old Tapes, and they consist of brother/sister duo of Lisa and Michael Kribs, and David McGinnis. These folks are hitting the Rochester, NY scene pretty hard and are sure to make some sort of national breakthrough asap. I get a little feel of Arcade Fire, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, or even Smashing Pumpkins from them. I
Tweet When we introduced you guys to Old Tapes back in June we described them as making "soothing, almost ambient music, fit for swaying more than dancing.", and nothing is more evident than that of their latest single "Farewell". Our good buddy buddies Tympanogram are releasing a single from two of the songs off Old Tapes 's debut EP titled "This Is Goodbye" . Lead track off the single is "Farewell", a song we actually featured when we did our Intro piece [...]

hailing from the bubbling metropolis of rochester, ny, old tapes have just released their debut ep entitled this is goodbye . old tapes, in case ya didnt know, is made up of lisa kribs, her brother michael and david mcginnis. all of whom are well known djs in said area/city and me thinks their side gigs definitely show up in their music. its most definitely not a dj record, but some of the grooves/beats/attitude shows up in their music. while usually, i would have to admit it doesnt sound like my thing on paper, i actually quite [...]

Old Tapes is a trio made up of frontwoman Lisa Kribs, her brother Michael and David McGinnis. All three hail from Rochester, NY and are DJ's in the local music scene and have come together to create their debut EP, This Is Goodbye . It is quite clear these three are not new to creating great music, even though this is the debut EP. Together they create music that is synth laden yet firmly anchored in a solid rock foundation. The more emotional debut single 'Farewell' shows a range of emotion ranging from seething to sweet. [...]
Tweetvaso link Following up with what was started with Joywave, tympanogram is proud to announce our second release. Working with bands from our own area who we believe represent the best of what our city’s eclectic music scene has to offer, we are ecstatic to be a part of the debut release from Rochester’s Old...
I’m a big fan of the XX. Their debut was one of my most played albums freshmen year, and yeah, I even fucked with that XX/Notorious B.I.G. mashup album for a while. Despite my affinity for the group, their music always felt distant. Even at its most upbeat, their debut wasn’t quite what I’d call danceable. I could probably throw on “Island” or “Crystalized” at a party without completely killing the mood, but then again, I have weird friends. Truthfully, the album always seems to play best when I’m driving alone late at night, long after the party’s ended. Sometimes [...]
Old Tapes could be brilliant. The stage is set. I went over to their cloud ( here ) and listened to what they chose to share. I have posted my fave track.. Got The Time . It is not their newest nor perhaps the one that most people might trend to , but it is the track that makes this band shine for me. Haunting vocals, muted melody.. Bingo bango I dig. This song aches . It is too soon to say what this band's voice sound like as no E or LP has come out...but I [...]
Tweet Lisa Kribs and David Lee Rad used to DJ together but now, along with Lisa's brother Michael, they're bringing us synth-driven pop as Old Tapes. I say driven, but this music doesn't exactly rattle along at any great pace. Old Tapes make soothing, almost ambient music, fit for swaying more than dancing. Most of the songs they've put together so far rest on simple, repeated vocal refrains from Lisa, whose slight voice provides the perfect point of contrast to those melancholy synths. This is especially [...]
