Eureka

Add this one to the list of awesome Monday announcements. Vancouver harmonic pop-quintet Mother Mother took the day to break the news on their upcoming third LP, Eureka , due out March 15, 2011, via Last Gang Records . In the press release, Eureka is said to offer up an evolved version of the band, one laden with synth hooks that "run the electronic gamut." Although there's a pretty good chance you can count on the band's signature clever lyrics and intricate harmonies to be in full swing. The album was produced by frontman [...]

Review: Mother Mother – 'O My Heart

Review: Mother Mother – 'O My Heart Naturally, it is always difficult to review a foraging and sun-kissed indie album from a Canadian act, without considering Arcade Fire. Mother Mother, in the title track, do have a lush and uplifting touch akin to Winn Butler and co, at times, but there's also a splattering of Hal and The Delgados, as well as some yearning interludes and a touch of desperation is also chucked in for good measure. This second album soon shapes up into a ranging release, toying with emotions whilst retaining some playfulness. In 'Body', a slight falsetto hold grips onto the vocals of [...]

Mother Mother – Ghosting

I've got some more Mother Mother for the masses today, and some contrived alliteration for good measure. Ghosting is another standout track from the band's second full-length release O My Heart, and the fourth song from the album we have highlighted at BowlingStone. The song employs a slightly more subdued approach than most Mother Mother tracks, but [...]

Mother Mother – Ghosting

Mother Mother – Ghosting I've got some more Mother Mother for the masses this Monday, and some contrived alliteration for good measure. Ghosting is another standout track from the band's second full-length release O My Heart , and the fourth song from the album we have highlighted at BowlingStone. The song employs a slightly more subdued approach than most Mother Mother tracks, but still maintains the properties that make the band's songs what they are. Strong melodies layered in between fantastic harmonies, with an occasional sharp left turn in terms of chord change, power the song from start to finish. Also, [...]

Mother Mother – Arms Tonite

Mother Mother – Arms Tonite Thursdays always feel like Mother Mother days to me; although it may just be this particular Thursday. Either way, today's song is a fantastic number from the Vancouver-based indie-rock band. Arms Tonite can be found on the band's sophomore full-length album O My Heart , released in September of 2008; this is the 3rd song we've posted from the album, the other 2 can be found here and here . If you want to catch a live performance from the band, they will be playing tonight at the 2009 [...]

QC INTERVIEW: MOTHER MOTHER

by chris carpenter Mother Mother has floated on and off the indie radar since the band's inception in 2005. They quickly garnered national attention through some major gigs and high level press in their home city of Vancouver, leading the group to sign a four album deal with Last Gang Records in 2007. Their re-released debut album Touch Up was well received by critics and was shouted out by the annoyingly popular Perez Hilton. The quintet is still touring for their second release [...]

Mother Mother – Hayloft

Mother Mother - Hayloft (Fan Video)
I need to try and get this post up as quickly as possibly, as this computer is likely to get thrown off my balcony if Mr. Federer loses this 5th set. Today's song is a wicked catchy number from the British Columbia indie-rock quintet Mother Mother . Hayloft can be found on the band's 2008 sophomore release O My Heart . O My Heart is one of the 5 albums up for the $25,000 Album of the Year award from this year's Verge Music Awards . Other finalists include Joel Plaskett with his album [...]

Mother Mother Playing Union Hall Tonight, Pianos Tomorrow

Mother Mother Playing Union Hall Tonight, Pianos Tomorrow Mother Mother at Pop Montreal (10/04/08) Photo : Jacinthe Fortier ( more ) Vancouver's Mother Mother is a band I've enjoyed over the years, but despite a couple of opportunities (CMJ 2008 being the last one I can remember), I have yet to see them play live. Having said that, after this week, I suppose I've really got no more excuses because they're playing Union Hall tonight ( Sunday ) with Arms and Ultrachorus and they'll be at Pianos tomorrow night [...]

Mother Mother – O My Heart

Mother Mother – O My Heart So we had one of the most insane thunderstorms I've ever witnessed in Calgary last night. So insane in fact, that when it woke me up I was certain we were under some kind of attack. After regaining my composure, and putting down my golf club, I found myself on the couch listening to some tunes. O My Heart is the title-track from Mother Mother 's sophomore album , released in September of 2008. More recently, the band has been nominated for the 2nd annual Verge Music Award in both "Artist of the Year" and "Album of [...]

Mother Mother

Mother Mother In response to The Scarlet Ending's Kaleena Goldsworthy (much thanks to her) listing a Mother Mother song ("Hayloft") as tops on her current playlist , I decided now would be a perfect time to discuss the brilliant five-piece from Vancouver, Canada. A bit more of a dynamic Mates of State (and with 3 more members...), Mother Mother combines dissonant harmonies with clashing melodicism to create quite a spectacle of modern indie pop. Their sound is utterly infectious - I was hooked on first listen and I expect several others will feel the same. They earned [...]

I ♥ Mother Mother: Mother Mother's O My Heart

I ♥ Mother Mother: Mother Mother's O My Heart Oddly enough, the first time I heard of the Vancouver band, Mother Mother, was late last year when one of my professors, who was teaching us media studies, mentioned them (well, actually gushed about them). I didn't check them out at the time (I hadn't been in the habit of taking musical recommendations from my professors), and then sort of forgot about them. Then I heard they were playing Winnipeg during the Jazz Festival, and I ignored them again without any real reason for doing so, opting not to see them live. I really had no idea what they sounded [...]

Mother Mother - O My Heart Review

O My Heart , Mother Mother 's [ Official Site , Myspace ] hook happy sophomore effort has been eagerly anticipated by fans since the re-release of their debut Touch Up last year. In September the wait will be over, and the high profile critics that have made the Canadian Shins their darlings over the past year will have plenty to blog about. Helmed by well seasoned Howard Redekopp, O My Heart is based mostly in American Folk Pop fused with Mid-Nineties alternative a [...]
